Well that HUD certainly looks nice. Also the Death Egg saga seems to have happened at some point.

Infinite's theme song is out now (and sounds so much better than the main theme). Does this mean we'll be having character themes again?

I don't know about you guys but this trailer here showing bits of cutscenes with Infinite has actually made me genuinely hyped for this game instead of hoping it's just somewhat interesting thing to play.

I want to believe we're all supposed to look at this like an AMV from 2006 that used Linkin Park music. (RIP)

My opinions on this character -

I'm guessing they fully intend this villain to be as edgy as possible. I mean, his song does sound like a song straight off the Shadow the Hedgehog Soundtrack, and his design is distinctly Sonic OC-based, same size as Sonic characters and same proportions.

Embracing the goofiness would probably be the best direction since Sonic Mania exists for fans of the original Serie's style and charm. Fans of the goofy zany over-the-top edginess have a game to keep them occupied and make their own OCs.
This game caters to the younger demographic, the other game caters to older, diehard retro Sonic fans.

I'm currently under the belief that Fist Bump is a song in past tense about the custom character and Infinite's relationship - the scene pictured above could potentially be the last time they met before Infinite betrayed them. For one, it would give the custom character a motivation to participate directly in the plot rather than being amongst the sidelines ala the military forces seen in the E3 gameplay trailer for Green Hill. Additionally, it makes the lyrics to the song a lot less awkward - beforehand, I assumed it was about the two Sonics, leaving the custom character as a third wheel. This also ties into Iizuka's statement waaaay back in about March, that the third character would be "very important to the overall theme and story of [the game]."

The lyrics of Infinite seem to tie into this as well, referencing a past confrontation - "And after all this time, you're back for more."

Other miscellaneous observations:

During the scene pictured above, the lyrics are - "I'll take what's mine, and start this war." - and immediately afterwards, a light is shown entering Infinite's chest. Remember Metal Sonic's plan in Heroes? I'm curious if this might be similar to that.

Shadow's eyes seem to suggest that he might be under some sort of mind control, explaining his being allied with Infinite. Additionally, both Metal Sonic and Chaos show signs of "flickering" and "glitching" in and out of reality at one point in the trailer - either they're holograms, or it's another symptom of being under Infinite's control.

After Sonic is kicked into the wall, the other villains seem to teleport, suggesting that the video was spliced together from two separate parts of the cutscene. Also, at that point, Zavok bends down and inspects the rubble as if he's looking for something.

Also, Shun Nakamura really has a thing for Sonic being thrown into walls.

Eggman seems surprisingly in control here.

Also, Infinite's voice is sexy.

Infinite is my new favourite Sonic character. 10/10 theme song, voice and appearance. Even if he constantly doesn't float and is glowing red.

I noticed too that Zavok seemed to be looking in the rubble, Metal Sonic and Chaos were getting glitchy visually as well. With the cutscenes being so well done, it is obvious this was done on purpose, and is not just a true visual glitch. Even though they are pretty far back in the background and are not the main focus when they were shown. Infinite himself seems to have visual glitches on purpose, even though the visual glitches seem two-dimensional.

What if Infinite is from the fourth dimension? If you do not understand what I mean, I mean that Infinite is a four dimensional entity. Infinite can move upwards, downwards, left, right, forwards, backwards, ana and kata. We ourselves are three dimensional. We can move upwards, downwards, left, right, forwards and backwards. Moving left and right is moving on one axis, which will be referred to as "X". Moving up and down is moving on another axis. This axis will be referred to as "Y". Moving forwards and backwards is moving on yet another axis. This axis will be referred to as "Z". One-dimensional objects and entities can only move on one axis, which is X. Two dimensional objects and entities can move on two axises. Which are X and Y. We ourselves live in are three-dimensional. We can move on the X, Y and Z axises. This fourth axis will be referred to as "T". This seems odd to ourselves, but only because we live as three-dimensional entities. We cannot move ourselves ana or kata, which is on the T axis, but fourth-dimensional objects and entities can move us ana and/or kata, and the third axis, the second axis and the first axis. So that is X, Y, Z and T. Also three-dimensional objects and entities can move two-dimensional objects on the third axis, the second axis and the first axis. So that is X, Y and Z. Two-dimensional objects and entities can move one-dimensional objects on the second axis and the first axis, which is X. When Infinite seemed to dodge Sonic basically effortlessly, Infinite could simply be moving right in the third dimension on the first axis, but he could also be moving ana or kata on the T axis. If I myself, a three-dimensional entity had the same X and Y location as you, but not on the Z axis, I would not be touching you. That said, because Infinite is a fourth-dimensional entity, if he is on the same location on the X, Y and Z axises, he could also be on a different location on the T axis. So to him, he would not be touching Sonic. But if two objects have different T locations, why doesn't anything in our world pass through each other? Explain ghosts to me then, they can simply be four-dimensional entities. Simply because we are all on the same location in the T

axis. And any higher amount of dimensional objects and/or entities. Because of this, it is easily assumed nothing is in the fourth-dimension. Anyways, if Infinite truly is a fourth-dimensional entity, a fifth-dimensional entity and/or objects could easily win against him. Maybe Infinite can also see the fourth-dimensional axis as well!

Infinite's army of floating red tesseracts are also four dimensional, because of how we ourselves represent a four-dimensional shape. A cube is three-dimensional, and a tesseract is four-dimensional. We as three-dimensional entities represent this by connecting the vertices of a cube to another cube, but usually a smaller one to show the differences. Well, this looks exactly like what Infinite's floating red army looks like. Red glowing tesseracts. With the outer and bigger cube being transparent and red, while the inner and smaller cube is solid glowing bright red. Just without visually on the third-dimension, connecting the vertices of the two cubes together.

Eggman must not only be able to travel time here, but dimensions. But why stop at four, when you can go Infinitely? Wait... Infinite... HOW MANY AXISES CAN INFINITE MOVE ALONG?!

Does anyone have any more information on how I could be right or wrong here?

First thing that comes to mind is what Ivogoji said: Eggman's control over the situation.

While it's still possible Infinite can control things within the forth dimension, if he had the power to move across and fully control things within the forth dimension,
I can't think of anything he would need from Eggman to side with him, or anything Eggman could do to capture him.

Unless, said 4th dimension is simply time, in which case Eggman would have the ability to capture him (Time Stones or Chaos Control perhaps?),but I doubt it would be within Eggman's power to
retain so much control over him. Then again, Eggman had full control over the Time Eater so anything's possible.

Him having 4D cubes sounds completely within reach though.

Also: Cubes.

I don't think Eggman has control over Infinite, but rather control over the situation thanks to infinite. What I'm guessing is that him and Infinite are working towards a common goal/have their interests lined up (likely one where infinite betrays him down the line and takes full control of the situation). It might be something that Infinite cannot do himself and needs Eggman for, but I can't imagine he has control over this being with seemingly infinite power.

At the same time Sega might play into our expectations of Infinite betraying Eggman and have Eggman be ready to blow up Infinite at any moment. It's usually Eggman who's the plot driver in these things.

For the record, the directions along the fourth spatial axis are called ana and kata, and technically, a hypercube is a cube in any number of spatial dimensions with the 4-hypercube being the tesseract, though 4 dimensions is usually assumed if not specified. Also, 2-dimensional beings are not necessarily bound to the xy-plane, nor is a plane the only possible 2-dimensional world(take for example, an ant crawling along a round cable, uncomprehending of the notion that the cable has an inside or that there is space above the cable's surface. Such an ant lives in a 2-d world consisting of the linear dimension of the cable's length and the curved dimension of encircling the cable's girth).

If Infinite really is a hyperdimensional being, I'd expect him to have at least some kind of teleportation(accomplished by stepping completely outside our own 3-D space, moving in 4-space, and then stepping back into our 3-space at a different location, akin to lifting a pencil from paper and placing it down elsewhere on the page)and intangibility(by using the fouth dimension to side-step objects in our 3-space).
Just so you know, I am blind.

Eggman had all the cards in Colors, Generations, and Lost World, chances are high that the same is true here.

On the cover we see the Infinite, Eggman, and Metal Sonic lined up with the doll, Modern Sonic, and Classic Sonic respectively. This reminds me of the 'rival' pair offs on the cover of SA2B, and makes me think that each hero is going to face off with his own personal nemesis in the story, with Modern Sonic as the main hero and Eggman as the main villain.

The absence of Shadow, Chaos, and Zavok reinforces my contention that they're reduced to being a Quirky Miniboss Squad in this game and have no real storyline presence.

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed Colors and Lost World's writing.

Many said that the writers didn't keep Sonic and Tails' personality together very well, which is true, but they also gave Sonic a clear weakness,
(of which there was a comment on some fansite that elaborated really far on it but I don't know where it is) which was basically enough compensation for me, and I just felt like Generations and Lost World
as a whole didn't focus enough on any particular thing.

REGARDLESS: I guess that's cool. I kinda expected as much, ultimately I was hoping for one of the comic writers (no, not that guy) or the Chronicles writers, even though that would never happen.

While I know this isn't the topic for it, I wasn't a big fan of Sonic Colors' writing. It has its charms, but for the most part it was just written way too lighthearted and jokey. It didn't have the same comedy/action/drama balance that adventure, unleashed, and other Sonic games before it had. Not all Sonic stories before Colors are gold, but the majority are far better written than anything after Colors.

I'll save this for another topic though, just figured it was sorta relevant with the recent announcement.

Sonic Colors was an excuse plot in the vein of Sonic 1, and the games since have been equally thin. I'm not really convinced Forces will be that different, despite what we've seen so far.

In SA, SA2, even Shadow the Hedgehog, the story went beyond cutscenes and character dialogue. The stages, the enemies in the stages, the upgrades the characters picked up, they added details to the narrative and created the sense of an inhabited world where there were things going on outside of what the heroes were doing. The GUN mechs had technical specs that scrolled across the screen before you fought them. The NPCs in Station Square had lives that unfolded as you spoke to them throughout the game before they all died horribly. Tails spacecraft was a modified version of the Tornado 3 instead of some random thing he put together. There was a conscious effort to develop a consistent setting that matched who the Sonic characters are and where they come from.

In contrast, starting with Unleashed and kicking into high gear with Colors, Sonic's world is increasingly made of generic environments that could have been pulled from any game, the characters are treated as extensions of stock roles with little reference to their past experiences, and the plots don't develop anything about the cast or setting to any degree of detail.

Will Forces really have any more depth? I remain skeptical that they're really going in a different direction.

I feel as if what Ivo says here isn't reflected or respected in sonic forces, having shadow, chaos, and the red guy from lost world would have just been a nostalgic tugger.

info is rather sparse here but a tag team mode will be in the game and has just been confirmed at gamescom. currently there isn't any footage of the mode being played so it's unclear how it will work (my money's on advance 3 style) but we do have this:

edit: previous video didn't mention anything about the new mode
