Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
It's the next installment in the series, that's kinda canon...millennial sonic couldn't last forever ya know.

Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
If you treat everything since Adventure as "Modern" has there really been enough consistency in Sonic's moveset to treat Sonicboom as a completely separate incarnation gameplay wise? Even if you limit "modern" to 7th and 8th Gen systems, do you really have any consistency?
Hell, even "Classic" Sonic's gameplay varied Drastically across all of his games for the Genesis, Gamegear, and SegaCD(And based on what Beta finds have been unearthed for xtreme, it was probably going to be quite different from both the Genesis games and what we eventually got in Sonic Adventure).

^I think its safe to say modern started with unleashed. Since then, it was pretty consistent until lost world.

Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
I haven't played 06(or any Console Sonic after Heroes), but my understanding is that the story ended in such a way that the events of the story were erased from the main time line. Not that it really matters since the Sonic franchise seems to run on comicbook time and has negative continuity.
Also, not counting Spin-offs and games that were complete departures from Sonic's General Gameplay, you also have:
From Console Generation 4:
Sonic CD for the Sega CD
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 for the GameGear
Sonic and Tails 1 and 2 for the GameGear
Sonic Blast for the GameGear
All of which, while having the same basic gameplay as S1-3K Feature a Sonic that handles very differently from other "Classic" Sonic platformers.
From Console Generation 5:
Sonic Pocket Adventure for the NeoGeo Pocket Color.
From Console Generation 6:
The Sonic Advance Trilogy for GBA, each of which play very differently from each other.
Console Generation 7:
The Storybook games for the Wii(Yes, they are their own universe story-wise, but they are still Sonic Platformers)
Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 for PSP
Sonic Rush/Rush Adventure/Colors DS
Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Yeah, even if you limit modern to 7th gen systems, you have quite a diversity in style among Sonic Platformers. Also, doesn't the Modern side of Generations borrow from every 3D Sonic Platformer, not just those for PS3/360 with the closest thing to Modern Sonic's gameplay in an earlier title being Unleashed Daytime?
Honestly, from what I have seen, Sonic Team has been experimenting with Sonic since Adventure and Adventure 2 and Generations are the only main games to actually build on prior successes.

Yah, gonna have to go with SA3. Although, with the crap sega's been puttin' out lately I dunno if i'd wish upon that star. Hmm, SH2 sounds tempting, too, not gonna lie. I honestly always thought sega was personally saving SA3 for a truly rainy day. Either way, I'd appreciate both but would prefer SA3 if not only for the chao garden. But please, reset the mechanics and put them back.

I want whatever is going to get us another chao garden.
But if we're talking from a gameplay standpoint, then SA3. I actually like the treasure hunting levels, and it'd be neat if there were other characters to play as (like Cream or Metal Sonic!).

Wasn't Sonic 06 Technically SA3?

If you want to get technical, Sonic Unleashed is SA3
If you count 06 as SA3, then SU is SA4.

Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
I just wish that next Sonic game can be played on Xbox 360 and PS3, I am hating Sonic theese days because SEGA is only making games for Nintendo consoles. Come on, does anybody here agrees with me? That's just unfair.

Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
I'll get technical and back and say there is no SA3 until a game comes out titled "Sonic Adventure 3", And just because The alternate title for Unleashed is "World adventure" it doesn't mean it's the same mini series . That's what I think anyway.
Anywho, I'd like any game with the somewhat traditional story structure (a few main stories and then a "final" story) but with some loyalty to the adventure games, including Chao Garden of course. Doesn't necessarily need an adventure field like SA1 or 06, but it could be cool. I guess what I'm saying is, I'd definitely prefer an SA3 to some kind of Sonic Heroes 2, although I did really like the first Sonic Heroes as well.

Re: Sonic heroes 2 or sonic adventure 3
Any game that brings back multiple character-specific storylines and gameplay gets my support, even if it's not a direct follow up to SA or Heroes. We've had the Sonic-focused period we were promised now, it's time to return to the Pre-Unleashed style.
