First Sonic game, what console?
First Sonic game, what console?
Assuming everyone here has played a Sonic game (otherwise why would you be on a Sonic forum??), what console did you play your first Sonic game on?
Mine was likely PC or Dreamcast, I was too young to properly remember, but I had a handful of PC ports of Sonic games as a little kid: R, S3&K, CD, and SEGA Smash Pack 2. But it also could have been Adventure, no idea.
Sorry about the cluttered poll, lots of games on lots of consoles...

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
One of the many games on the GameCube, I think the GameCube had almost all of the previously released and current games on it one way or another too.
(What is it missing anyways? Chaotix, Eraser, Pocket Adventure, SegaSonic and maybe that Leapster game?) If I remember correctly that is.
My brothers also had Sonic 3 & Knuckles Collection, Sonic CD, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic R, and I think SEGA Smash Pack 1 with Sonic Spinball on it for the PC AND VECTORMAN 1.
At the same time, I don't think I ever had the games on my own personal computer (and I didn't know the first thing about installing them either) so I probably didn't play them first.
Either way, I really hope it wasn't Heroes. Because my 4 year old self would scream if I said how much I despise that game now.
Or maybe not, I remember deliberately choosing to play SADX or SA2B instead. Or Mega Collection. Or Gems Collection. ...Or the Wii version of Unleashed. Yeah, I don't think I ever actually liked Heroes.

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
The Gamecube was also missing Shuffle, which remains Dreamcast exclusive to this day if I'm not mistaken.
Anyways, my first Sonic was either Sonic 1 or 2 on the Genesis at around the age of ten.

First game would be Sonic 2 on Genesis. It was my brothers, and I was pretty incompetent/young so I was always Tails

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
i'm on sonic forums because of archie comics
i'm old enough to have been around since sonic cd was released (1993) but i only have vague 2 year old girl memories of teenage cousins playing sonic 2, though i didn't know what it was then. i jumped straight into the ps1/n64 era because i got both consoles christmas 1997, didn't care for the nintendo/sega era, or the 16-bit whatever era much, because i was under the impression sega was poor man's nintendo and sonic was some cheaper mario knockoff. i even remember trying a dreamcast in a mall and thinking to myself "why would i want this over a playstation 2?"
didn't even take sega remotely seriously until valkyria chronicles
but anyway first sonic game i actually tried was sa2b on gcn during one of gcns sad endless exclusive droughts when i was around 9 or 10 (this was 2002-2003), and i liked it, kept playing from about mega collection to sonic 06, then played generations, been waiting for something above mediocre since

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
My first Sonic game was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the Gamecube when it was first released, it was one of my first games I ever played too. It's always been my favorite in the entire series and to this day it's remained my favorite game of all time.
Everything about it is perfect to me, well despite it's obvious problems like the audio balancing, I'm speaking more in terms of the game's style. The art, the music, the writing, the tone, and you can't forget about the Chao garden. Everything about it has so much charm that Sonic games nowadays severely lack for me. I especially love the type of character interaction we get in this game too, and the personalities that each character has.
I actually sat down and finally 100%ed the game over the past week or so after all of these years. All of the extra missions and content the game had really made me appreciate it on a whole new level.
I could go on and on and gush about how much I love this game, but I'll spare everyone for now!

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
Original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis; I was around three, and it was one of the first games I ever played. I don't mean to say I played it upon it's release, as I was born in '96, but it actually took me several years [probably around '06?] before I got a Gamecube on which to play the "newer" titles, so I just played the first three since they were the only ones I had. I... never actually got a newer system past the Gamecube [bc money], but I have played a bit of Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations on other people's systems, I just don't own any recent games myself...

Sonic 1, on Mega Collection. Either that or SA2B, both around the same time (if not even the same month)

SA2B. Having just turned 7, and not knowing anything about the Sonic series, I only wanted the game because I thought the box art looked cool.

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast.
I played it first on a demo disc, it only had Emerald Coast and I remember it fondly.
I'll always remember getting the actual game. I was around 5, and my mother picked my brothers and I up from school. I was 5, my brothers were 9 and 12. She brought us to a British shop called Argos where she bought my brother Sonic Adventure so we could all play it. My eldest brother asked to go home with it, and she said yes as long as he doesn't play it. When we all went home, there he was playing the ****ing game without us.
The intro was one of the most realistic things I had ever seen in a video game at the time. It's still pretty impressive when you look at them.
I think it took him a year to fully complete it. I also remember we attempted to raise Chao (God, this must've been 2001 or so), and being really shocked that one of them was flying when we came to check on them once.
I think we got Sonic Adventure 2 for Gamecube, and didn't get it for Dreamcast for another 9 years or so.

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
I must have been 4 or 5 when I played my first Sonic game because when I was 6 my room had Sonic & Knuckles wallpaper plus I owned a yellow labrador that I had named Sonic. I remember playing a demo of Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast at an EB games & after that getting the genesis games & Sonic CD at the same time. I was 8 when I got the Dreamcast with SA1, Sonic Shuffle & SA2. I had a blast playing them with my big bro's & friends. I was super ADHD & tripping balls from fungus that was growing inside my house from a past flood my parents didnt know about until another flood struck & knocked down the walls. Made me scared of water like Sonic. I guess you could say I had a true blue childhood.. lol
Re: First Sonic game, what console?
My little brother and I ended up with my half brothers' Genesis and all it's games.
(They didn't willingly hand it over, I was like 3 so I have no idea how this happened).
Anyway, my little brother and I had Sonic 1-3, Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic Spinball.
Genesis was how we got introduced to Sonic, followed by the Gamecube when that was released.
We didn't have a Saturn or Dreamcast (I got those when I was in, I think, high school for myself lmao).

Re: First Sonic game, what console?
My first Sonic game was Sonic Rush on the DS, and it it my favorite handheld Sonic game (the only others I played were Rush Adventure, Advance 2, Colors, and Fire and Ice). My first console Sonic game was Secret Rings. I still haven't beaten it, and I've had it since I was 8. I don't like Secret Rings that much, but Rush is amazing, especially since Blaze the Cat, my favorite female Sonic character, first appears in that game

I got Sonic 3 ( Genesis) and Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) around the same time, but I probably played Sonic 3 first.
