MANIA SPOILERS!!!

After playing Sonic Mania myself, I now think Mania and Forces are connected.

I think Mania Sonic is Infinite.

Why? Watch the first cutscene in game. When the magenta gem is used, listen to the sound. That exact sound is used when Infinite summoned his army of tesseracts.

Watch that same citizens again. See the five, boring looking robots? After the gem is used, look at them again. They're free. They're different. They've changed. All thanks to the gem.

Dr. Eggman does use this gem at one point, so why didn't it affect him?
The gem corrupts those who aren't corrupted. The robots weren't corrupted before using it, and now they were.
Eggman is already corrupted. No need to change then.

If you watch the Super Sonic ending, Sonic and the gem are sucked into a portal. He isn't seen after that.
The gem has corrupted Mania Sonic now, and he is sent to the Forces dimension.

Look at Infinite. See that gem in his chest? That's the same gem.

The gem can obviously travel through space and time,
so this makes Infinite's army of tesseracts and him teleporting possible.

Anyone got any more proof of this, or disagree?

True, but this Sonic could simply be from another timeline.

Why do you think the same sound effect is in both games, then?

Because devs reuse assets all the time and have reduced incentive to tweak the reused assets for games with near concurrent releases.

Still, the idea that Infinite is a corrupt alternate timeline/dimension/universe/etc. Sonic doesn't seem too farfetched. It's a bit cliched, but I don't think Sega has played this variation of the Evil Twin card yet.

pretty sure classic sonic's appearence in the forces trailer through a portal implies that mania sonic was thrown through time and space to whatever world forces takes place in as himself. it's clear it has some sort of sentience, could be inside the stone or just a body projection. idk but it's sonic, i doubt it's something too original. it's advertised as a world where eggman 'won' but it's more likely that infinite literally is the stone's power and just manipulated time and space to make it so imo. timeline of mania or either sonic probably doesn't matter. if you can manipulate time and space then you could rewrite reality, because neither has linear meaning at that point. and that's the significance of hinting that he's "faster than sonic" because i'd assume he could simply be in that space and moment before sonic even conceived moving, because even if sonic hit him originally, does that really matter if you're a higher dimensional being that could just as easily retain that experience and then alter it?

i doubt sega will portray it as anything more than instant teleportation but still.

Story trailer Ivo posted, but officially in English this time.

Freaking amazing.

That's mostly coming from the fact I don't think they've put this much effort into a story since Sonic '06.

Also, free Episode Shadow DLC.

I'll talk about what this game has to do with Mania whenever I'm done probing that game for stuff, since I haven't even finished playing Knuckles yet.

also sonic please don't intentionally say part of the game's title in the game it's bad luck

Still kinda iffy on the game. Sonic Mania seems like a better investment these days. The ad campaign is positively strange, but if the gameplay still hasn't evolved from Generations, then I don't see a point except in making an OC, and since it seems like you can't even make one of the main animals, like a fox or echidna, then what's the point? Almost every kid that made an OC made their OC a Hedgehog, Echidna, or Fox. It'd be like Dragon Ball Xenoverse letting you make every type of chaarcter except Saiyan. Literally everybody wants to make a god damn Saiyan, what's the point in not allowing it?

Maybe Eggman expanded Casino Night into Mystic Forest a forest that doesn't happen to have any correlation to a classic Sonic level?

Edit: I meant Casino FOREST, not ruins.

Edit edit: I'm dumb, there isn't a Mystic Forest zone in Sonic 2.

Also I don't think it's been mentioned anywhere else, but Forces is currently priced as $40 on Steam and elsewhere, opposed to the common $60.
I'll assume the equivalent price difference exists with other currencies.

demo is out on jpn eshop, it's pretty good albeit saddled by a... one minute time limit?

doesn't really hinder you that much though :3c

Here's what I found while playing:

- Classic Sonic's physics are 110% better than Generations', but they're not Mania perfect.
- Classic Sonic still has the glorious Drop Dash from Mania however, but it's not as useful as you can't jump immediately upon landing.
- Classic Sonic doesn't have a Spin Dash button anymore, now it's crouch. In return it's a much more reasonable and faithful version of the Spin Dash.

- Modern Sonic can't drift anymore.
- Modern Sonic has his Sonic Colors double jump again.
- Modern Sonic has Sonic Colors like control over his movement when he's not boosting.
- Quick Stepping isn't nearly as prone to abuse as it was before; Sonic doesn't move in to 3 little lanes anymore, he moves in to the far end of 2 lanes instead, it seems to give purpose to the above though.

Just set up a Japanese account and browse the eShop until you find Forces because the eShop layout is more or less the same as the others.

It seems to give me Japanese notifications when turning on the Switch though, so watch out for that.

I posted the previous two in the Sonic IDW topic, but these are confirmed canon as this one relates directly to Episode Shadow, so I think it'd be best to put them here now.

Huh, so Infinite and the Phantom Ruby have at least coexisted at one point in time. I was under the assumption that the Phantom Ruby was used to turn Infinite into what he currently is since something akin to it is embedded into his chest. Maybe Eggman cloned part of it? Tails did make a replica Chaos Emerald in SA2 after all.

Just a heads up for anybody who doesn't know - the game has leaked and places like YouTube and Twitch are filled with spoilers up the wazoo. Things like every cutscene and most boss battles, including the final ones.

i'll be streaming this tonight if everything works out okay @ http://twitch.tv/sunlightscatter - i plan on playing as much as i can bear to in one sitting so definitely at least the main story + episode shadow and maybe some/all postgame depending on how long it takes? will be in CI hell's voice channel at the same time if anyone wants to join

EDIT: finished the game, i'm gonna sleep and then post more detailed thoughts - until then here's my post from retro

finished the game - I personally like it a lot, definitely my second favorite modern sonic after unleashed. there's places where it could be improved, but overall it was very solid imo. episode shadow kind of reminded me of SA2's mission 5s - very challenging and fun to play despite being visually messy in places. also love that the shonen anime serial escalation is back, nice to see the literal sun about to scorch the planet with campy vocal music playing

7.5/10? maybe?

my biggest problems are kind of janky physics at times, not many of the wispons are particularly useful (i picked up cube and stuck with it basically the entire game,) pontaff-ridden localization, and... zavok was one of the worst bosses in 3D sonic history

also this is more of a personal problem but i didn't get any clothes i really liked until like, literally the last level? i spent most of the game in a seifuku because there was nothing better until 30 minutes from the credits
