The paint's chemical make-up is more important than the method of application. Porous materials like wood tend to soak up any liquid that comes in contact with them, so most paints are good on wood, unless the paint negatively reacts with the wood. With nonporous materials like metal and most plastics, most paints will just form a thin crust that flakes off easily once dry, or will just run off without sticking.

If the woodgrain is from the bat being made of wood, you are probably okay. If its a metal or plastic bat that has been textured to resemble woodgrain, you might have adhesion problems. As for the decal, depending on how its adhered, it might be easier to remove it than conceal it with paint.

As for specific paints:
I know Tempura is good for wood and bad for plastic.
I know most water-based paints are good for wood and bad for plastic.
I know Krylon Fusion is good on plastic, but have no idea about on other materials.

Cosplaying is eccentric, but harmless.
Fursuiting is weird, but again, harmless. To everyone but the animal.
I definitely don't endorse these things, but whatever.
If you wanna do it, that's cool.

Spray paint will work just fine, but you want to make sure you prep your surface appropriately to get the best coverage possible. Sand the bat, prime it, wait ~15 minutes, sand again, and 3+ even coats of silver should do it. (make sure you use short side-to-side sprays, and don't drown the bat. patience is key!) hope this helps, yo. You're safe with brands like Krylon and Rustoleum. Testors model paint, while meant for plastic, is also nice. good luck.

what? people don't usually use real fur for fursuits, if that's what you're hinting at there. It's usually a synthetic material.

I actually have made an Enderman costume, it was pretty easy.

Heres what I did if you want try to make one:
Spoiler:
-Got a box that was a tiny bit bigger then my head, painted the entire box black with some regular paint. If any colors from the original box were showing, I used a black
sharpee marker to color over it.

-Found some glittery different shaded purple stickers, cut them into squares and made the eyes.

-Cut small holes into the box to see through, made sure there weren't any pieces of cardboard visible in the holes.

-Wore a black scarf to cover my neck, black long sleeve shirt, black gloves, black skinny pants, black socks, black boots.

-Optional: Get another box, paint it orange, make it look like the Jack-O-Lanterns from Minecraft, cut handles into it, use it as a candy box for Halloween.
Wasn't that hard to make for me. :P

sweet! thanks for letting me know the instructions!~ i was thinking more of a full-body costume, though... like, having holes where your hand sticks out of the huge arms and some kind of stilts :3

guysguysguysguysGUYS. when i went to the GA renaissance festival and saw the costume contest, there was a flipping PINKIE PIE there. and she even won second place! it was so flipping AMAZING! good to know i have a local pinkie...but seriously, it was complete with, like, real noisemaker and everything, it was amazing! she inspired me to go as anthro fluttershy next year♥ gotta go tell my bronies...

EFFFF! Anime Expo is almost here, and my costume is only like 85% done! The dog tags are really hard to find for me! (and maybe the brown pants and sports duffel bag) Getting them online is NOT AN OPTION. I've searched walmart and target, but i still can't find 'em! I seriously need the freakin dog tags. anyone know where to get some in an actual store? maybe brown pants too? I'm certain i can get the bag at Big 5 Sporting goods

EDIT: Duffel bag: Check. I can find one at Big 5.

brown pants are easily found anywhere, thrift stores are a good place to look for cheap clothes. dogtags could be found at some party stores, but they'd probably be plastic.

Goodwill is one of the few chain thrift-stores that I know of.

also what is wrong with just looking up where to find dogtags? If you can find them online or maybe where they're sold offline, that would take less time than asking us and then waiting for a response.
I've enjoyed most of the time I've spent here, I hope my actions have not ruined such an experience for anyone else.

Because Anime Expo is in 3 days and it would take too long for the dog tags to come.

On PCH and Cherry theres a thrift store called Out of the Closet. It's really good and cheap. On 4th street there are quite a few as well. And on 2nd street theres one called Buffalo Exchange, but that place is pretty expensive. There isn't a goodwill all that close to us, Out of the Closet is the closest one.

Yes, I know that at least Party City carries plastic camouflage-themed dog tags.
As for the pants, they might have brown / khaki pants at Academy if you live near one, though it's Summer so I'm not sure. Or you could just, well, go to a clothing store.

I always thought fursuiting and mascoting were, like, the same thing. >.> Anyway, s'cool but not for me. My homegirl said she wants to cosplay and would like it if I also participated but I'm like nah; I'll leave that to the professionals. S'already bad enough she's dragging me to animecon this year.
