Authority abuse

Post by Nintendawg »

I'm not talking about police officers enforcing the law. As youngsters, or at least ones under 21, we have those set of people we listen to, or at least expected to listen to. Parents, older siblings, elders, ect. Those same people, we've all had to deal with those who just unfairly shut us up or rule us because they act like the adults from "Matilda"
"I'm big and you're small and I'm right and you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it."
I'm age 15 going on 16 in August, and my family still treats me like a child, abusing their authority like hell. What are your thoughts on family/gaurdian figures abusing their authority? And feel free to share stories if you got any really special ones.

My parents have always been super over protective, and while its bugged my friends a lot its actually never bothered me.
It can be annoying at time, like I'm not allowed to get the mail or go to the car without someone watching to make sure I'm safe, still. (I'm 20)
But all and all I've never wanted to go out and party or sneak out of the house and I'm super paranoid about life so its all good for me.

When I was younger though, my older sister would use the "I'm older than you" thing a lot and that bothered me but shes grown out of that.

The only real problem I had was I dated an abusive guy for 4 1/2 years and he was very controlling about my life and junk. He really abused the "I'm the man and if you don't do what I say there will be consequences" thing.

A lot of reasons. I could explain it all but that'd be seriously off topic.
You could make a topic about it or PM me and I'd gladly tell you my thoughts.

To be honest, my parents/older siblings/etc dont abuse their power, i do get yelled at over things that arent under my control, and i dont get credit for anything i do...but thats beside the point.
I know people with abusive parents, and i do my best to make them happy, aside from their "dictators". I used the word dictators because when compared to average parents/etc. Thats what they aft like. I guess we could pull subjects like discipline and when thats going over board and things like that, but it would make this topic too broad.
hey there! I don't have anything to put here for the moment, you can just move along now.

Honestly, I cannot remember my dad ever scolding me, and the only thing I can remeber my mom scolding me for was when I got caught in the act of looking at pornographic material when I was under the age of 18, and when she first found out that my fiancee and myself were intimate. My older sister joined my mom on the latter of those, despite the fact that she was already pregnant with her first child when she was the age I lost my virginity.

I had an older Brother, but he lived in a different state from the family for most of the overlap in our lifetimes(he was 18 when I was born, and died in his thirties).

Most of the authority abuse I fell under was not from home, but from the Governor Morehead School for the Blind, where I spent the 4th-12th grades living in its dormatories. Most of the dorm parents were just following orders from higher up(though I remember at least one I would acuse of bullying if I knew then what I know now), but even as a senior who is 18 or older and legally an adult, there existed the following restrictions:
-All television shows had to be TV-PG or less and pre-approved, and this rule extended to those who had tvs in their dorm rooms(Thankfully, enforcment on dorm room tvs was lacking and they did not seem to have similiar rules for those who had game consoles).
-Except for going to the afterschool Learning center, students had to be escorted by at least one dorm parent whenever travelling accross campus outside of the school day.
-Leaving campus was forbidden without a staff escort, and such opportunities were extremely limited outside of Orientation and Mobility lessons or the van ride through Raleigh for those in GMS dual-enrollment program with one of the public highschools in the area.
-Ordering pizza to be delivered to the dorm was forbidden unless it had been arranged well in advance that the entire dorm would be ordering pizza instead of going to the dining hall for supper.
-It never came up, but I dread to think what the reaction would have been if I had ordered something from Amazon and had it delivered to the dorm.
-At least one dorm parent had to be present in the dorms whenever students were there. Combined with the above escort rules, this often meant being dragged to campus functions against one's will.

Seriously, dorm life at GMS was so restrictive in personal movement, that some of the older students would joke that the inmates next door at Central Prison had more freedom(and yes, the dorms were right next to the prison, the fence being just on the other side of the road that ran behind the dorms).

Well I wouldn't say 'Authority abuse' but more or less 'miscommuntications' between me and my grandpa. Yeah, grandpa. I live with my grandparents, whoop whoop e~e.
But well
*at least twice my dad has verbally threatened to slap me because I could not keep eye contact with him. For some reason eye contact freaks me the heck out and often (and both of these instances) long forced moments of eye contact has led me to sudden non-stop crying. Its said that not staring someone in the eyes makes you submissive but for me staring at someone in the eyes MAKES me submissive.
*this moment really ticks me off still when I think about it. My dad was having me write something down and I check the date. I checked it on the computer and dad yelled at me for CHECKING THE DATE ON THE COMPUTER. Then I accidentally wrote the date like I did in Spanish (Day/Month/Year) AND DAD BLAMED THE COMPUTER FOR THAT?!!?
then he called my clearly 23 into a 25 and pushed me away from what I was writing and wrote it in for me.

I honestly believe my dad doesn't like my career choices in life; I have great artist capabilities and dad...wants me to be a scientist. Guess what; I suck in both science and math. Every time my ideas for what I'm gonna do in the future dad says I'll be better off being a scientist. I can see he's talking about money; but how can I be a scientist if I can't even pass science or math?? Besides, its best in life to be happy; not wealthy and sad. sigh...

^Privacy was kind of limited, but that had more to do with the way the dorms were built(each dorm room was built for two students, and each pair of rooms shared a single bathroom) than the rules forced upon the residents by the powers that be. Hell, my fiancee(who I met while at GMS) chose to live with her Tyrannical Grandmother to get out of the dorms when they cut back on the acceptable distance from campus to be a day student such that her home was too far from campus.

Well, on friday, me, my parents, and my little sisters went to carvel. I didn't want to go because I wanted to stay on my Ps3. I said yes at first, but when I was getting dressed I said no. Both my parents forced me to go but I didn't want to go. My dad insulted me and yelled at me to go with them. I went with them and I said I didn't want Ice Cream but they ordered my favorite anyways. I refused to eat it and my dad said, "Oh my ******* god, you're getting me ******* ******* pissed off, why can't you just have this moment with us." I said no and he said. "Stop ******* acting up and dat your Ice Cream or I'll take your Ps3 & DSi away" I cried and yelled, "SO NOW I AM BEING FORCED TO EAT SOMETHING I DON"T ******* WANT? I 12 YEARS OLD AND IF I DON"T WANT ICE CREAM I SHOULDN'T EA-" My dad cut me off, "YOU"RE NOTHING BUT A ******* 12 YEAR OLD WHEN YOU OLDER YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT!!"

I've tried.

Backstory of why we were going to carvel.
I was extremely bored and all I wanted was to go to the park, my mom said no. I was getting really annoying. My dad came and told us to go to carvel. When i refused my mom said, "C'mon! You were bored right?" And then the above post happened.

Authority abuse is terrible. "Don't be gay!" "Wear clothes with mixed fabrics or you'll never see me again!" "Love only me!" "Women can't teach!" "Steal and you'll get your hand cut off!" "Don't talk to anybody who doesn't know about me!" "Uh oh, I have to kill you all now"

Actually, when i said i didnt didnt have to deal with it, that was sort of a half lie...see, my dad (step dad at the time) had anger issues. He had rules that were fair, but he threatened to break my games, and he abused us for "discipline". He grabbed and pinned me to a wall by my neck, as well as my youngest brother. He left bruises on my youngest sister, and he made my other sister scream so loud the neighbors moved out (when she was in a different state, before him and mom hooked up, but i believe her

After a while i started fighting back, i got sick of it, and eventually (after many failed attempts) he stopped. Now we're all fine.

That second reminds me: My dad thinks I'm gay for two reasons:
1) I have long nails.
2) I don't mind the fact my school isn't co-ed (meaning it has no girls).
Please explain the logic there.

And on the subject of my dad, he definitely does this. Examples:
-Kidnapping me and insisting "that didn't happen"
-Dragging me to places I don't want to go DESPITETHEFACTTHAT'SAPPARENTLYTHEONETHINGHENEVERDIDACCORDINGTOHIM
-Showing back up at the house after leaving (read:divorce) and refusing to leave
-Flat out ignoring the fact I blatently hate him and acting like it isn't true (Which is forgivable if only for the fact it's HILARIOUS)
-Forcing me to send a visiting friend home early so I could go "meet new ones" (Which I didn't, obviously...and yes, this is after he left)
-Insisting I need to learn social skills because apparently not being talkative is a horrible social disease
-Screaming at me for not taking care of my apparently amazing house which he both left and tried to sell (with me living in it of course)
-Insisting that I abuse the cat (partially true) because we have to keep the poor thing in a room alone...BECAUSE MY GENIUS SISTER GOT A CHIHUAHUA WITHOUT BEING PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF THAT THE CAT WOULD DISSECT IF THEY EVER MET EACH OTHER
-Considering the fact I'm not angry right now I should really lay off the shift key
-When asked for one good thing he's ever done for me...wait for it..."I didn't sell your house."
......yeah, that's not good. It just proves you're a pile of dirt rather than a worthless pile of dirt.
-Apparently all I do is sit around feeling sorry for myself (Somehow being the only one of your kids without an alchohol problem means nothing)
-On the subject of my grampa who died of lung cancer when I was a kid, the little ass can be quoted with this....atrocity of a line: "You don't remember him, do you?"
-This one time I was sick, so I turned down an offer to go ice skating...So, naturally, I got a ten-minute lecture about how "disrespectful" I am. Right.
-Told my 60+ year old gramma who needs a cane to go take a walk. THERE WAS ICE EVERYWHERE. HE FREAKING LAUGHED.
-He also spanked me once, but at this point that literally means nothing. I was three at the time
-That reminds me, he always insists that "someone told you that." Seriously, he thinks I NEED TO BE TOLD I WAS KIDNAPPED. WHAT. THE. ****.
-I once got yelled at for an hour because I read in the car rather than talking to him since the latter inevitably ends badly for me.
-Oh one more thing, has literally called me worthless at least once.

I don't even hate him any more, I just like to laugh at how stupid he is. Okay, I still hate him but now he's funny.

EDIT: Removed a few irrelevant points.

The only authority issues that I've had thus far have been with my mom and her mom; given that I've never lived under the same roof as my dad or visited him a lot in my lifetime, to me he's relatively loose, understanding, and usually lets me go my own way without really stepping in or protesting. It's my mom who likes to occasionally make decisions for me and tends to get on my case about little mistakes I make and my poor social skills, given that she still doesn't have a clear understanding of introverts. "You've been on the computer all day. Why don't you go read a book for once?" (and I do read a lot, actually), "If you don't go make some friends and talk more, I'm taking your computer, books, and games until summer." Whenever she starts scolding me for anything I did that she didn't like, she always interrupts me when I'm trying to say something to defend myself, instead insisting that I'm making excuses and doesn't let me have a say on the matter until she's done. She isn't at all abusive and she does show that she at least cares about my [physical] health, but it does get a /bit/ annoying when I can never stand up for myself and still am occasionally treated as though I'm younger than I actually am.
