Color Theory Topic
Vapor are you there? I'm trying to figure out how to make dark/black magic girls aesthetic and I feel like the design of Eclipsa from Star VS is hiding something.
I mean sure, you have pale skin and the color purple but then you also have a very dark green for her hair color. I mean yeah, green and purple contrast well but I feel like there's something else to this.
Re: Color Theory Topic
it's the eyes, need heavy eyelids or dark eyeshadow for the aesthetic
dark violet to dark purple with an accent of chartreuse green to emerald green helps for witch-y characters in clothing, and for eye color, brown, black, or the colors i previously mentioned all work
this is not set in stone

Re: Color Theory Topic
While not set in stone, I imagine the colors mentioned is for a reason.
Re: Color Theory Topic
can we talk about how this yellow-on-blue color scheme is a bad idea for CI tho
no excuses with the dark theme, the main site still looks the same
oh and also on that note the dark theme is extremely broken

complementary colors may complement each other, but they're supposed to be vibrant and stand out which is the last thing you want a color scheme to be when you're designing a webpage. couple that with the fact that 90% of the page is covered in a bright blue and it's gonna kill your eyes.
Re: Color Theory Topic
purple-y colors just look mysterious, mystical, and maybe a little evilTriert wrote:While not set in stone, I imagine the colors mentioned is for a reason.
the green-y colors as an accent add magic of a possible malevolent nature
but it is powerful
Re: Color Theory Topic
We do have disney to thank for letting green be an evil color.
Re: Color Theory Topic
not sorry for this

Hi I love colors. Seriously, anyone feel free to talk to me about colors.
As for your green, have you thought of poker tables? Y'know, with the card suit theme and all.

Re: Color Theory Topic
Not at all, you've got your dark green, white, black, and red all in all. How are they supposed to work?

Blue and yellow go well together, and Chao blue combined with Chao Yellow is thematically appropriate for a website about Chao, but this is arguably a case of sacrificing readability for aesthetic. Color combinations that make for easy reading, especially for an extended period, are far more limited than those that merely look good next to each other, and that number is further reduced when you consider the difference between the printed page and the backlit display. Dark text on a light background works well for printed material, but you might as well be staring at a light bulb trying to read such on most displays. Granted, Chao Island is just one among multitudes of websites that have made such mistakes, and at least it's an improvement over the black-on-white that is the default for most browsers to display pages that don't set their own colors.
Re: Color Theory Topic
I never thought of it like that, but it sounds like an interesting thought. I do think green has some older history relating to evil (quoted from Wikipedia page for the story of Gawain and the Green Knight: "Because of its connection with faeries and spirits in early English folklore, green also signified witchcraft, devilry and evil. It can also represent decay and toxicity." But the same paragraph also goes on about green's significance with nature, so it is, and I guess has been for a while, a mixed bag.Triert wrote:We do have disney to thank for letting green be an evil color.
Anyway, I really like colors. I think cyan is underappreciated for its status as a secondary color of light. It should be more noteworthy than orange, anyway.
Although historically people say that in Newton's ROY G BIV, Blue is more like modern day cyan and indigo is more like modern day blue.
And I think CI colors are fine. The type of blue used is easy enough, I think, and yellow is generally only used for accenting things. Yellow is mostly used on the main site, not really the forums, either.

Re: Color Theory Topic
I like colors too but I'm bad at them anyways
I still want to learn how to use them better at some point though.

Re: Color Theory Topic
Well except for complimentary colors there's also colors that work in a triangle from each other.
Also, Black is the broken overpowered color that looks good with a lot.

Re: Color Theory Topic
tbh i prefer vibrancy over pastel, the latter makes everything seem too soft and a lot of people are resorting to that nowadays

If you haven't seen it, this video on color comes to mind.
Re: Color Theory Topic
You think you know colors? Huh? I studied colors! I got my degree, graduated top of my class, in colors.chocohugs wrote:
Anyway, I am super bad at drawing, with pens, paint, or on a computer. So I never took any classes on color stuff. Which is sad, because even as a kid I was very into colors as a whole.
So instead I studied chemistry, which has some colors involved.
Part of what I think is so cool about colors is how broad of a topic it is. There is physics (what emits what lights), there is biology (how our eyes work), there is psychology (how colors impact us) and there is art. It is really great. I guess "sound" is probably just as broad, but I don't know, it interests me less as a topic to learn about.
