The Comics General
Opening statement, all manga belongs to the USA because we inspired manga.
Second opening statement, what the hell is the reading order for everything before DC's crisis on infinite earths?

Re: The Comics General
i've actually been following a reading order. like if you're really about dc or marvel i think this one pretty much covers everything important. but you're gonna need a site with scans.
as far as i know it's not politically inclined to gloss over certain stories or anything like that. pre crisis as long as you experience superman family, batman milestones, swamp thing, kirby's fourth world, some justice league, brave and the bold, some flash. basically just tackle that era as if you were doing art apreciation because you're gonna get really frustrated about continuity until 60s flash establishes earth 1 and 2 and even then it's ****** up
https://comicbookreadingorders.com/dc/d ... ing-order/ now i'd suggest looking for various orders because a lot are really narrowed down and skip more offbeat stuff like phantom stranger, though this order is pretty good at condensing 1939-1985 into around 600 issues

Tackle them as if I was doing art appreciation? I don't understand that, and it's mostly because I faked my art projects in high school after I learned about modern art and metaphors.
I genuinely don't know, that wasn't a joke at all.

Re: The Comics General
i just mean the writing is kinda frustrating because back then was like random coincidences every page. also they're choppy and sometimes hard to follow when 600 fictional mafia businessmen get name dropped
it's really stiff reading until the 60s-70s, does that make more sense?

Re: The Comics General
It does, mostly because I just read a silver age comic that had every single problem you just listed a little while ago.

I feel like this is a good opportunity to point out that the Rusty comic is still gonna be a thing.
Re: The Comics General
I have many questions but the first one is which Rusty are you talking about, because all I got from a google search was this chick.

I need context that ends in a .png, or a .jpg.

Only superhero comic books are like that.Lamby wrote:i just mean the writing is kinda frustrating because back then was like random coincidences every page. also they're choppy and sometimes hard to follow when 600 fictional mafia businessmen get name dropped

Newspaper strips and Disney comics from the 30s through the 50s are exceedingly normal in comparison.
I don't really know why that is, but kind of attributed it to newspaper strip writers having different standards about content from 'funny book' writers, maybe combined with newspapers being more of a medium for adults+kids while early superhero comics were intended exclusively for children (Disney comics were of course for kids, but the Disney characters started out appearing in newspaper strips first, so when they did make the transition to comic books they still had that different standard in mind).
Another factor might be how most of the early super heroes were inspired by the older pulp magazine science fiction hero/mystery man genre, which were way better written than super hero comics in most respects but absolutely had that 'random coincidence fuels the entire plot form start to finish' thing going for them. Like, a lot.

Speaking of Disney, were they ever affected by the CCA?

Re: The Comics General
^I don't know, since most of the Disney comics I've read are pre-code.
Probably they were impacted to a certain degree. In the 30s Mickey was fighting opium smugglers and black cannibals. I doubt that kind of stuff happened after the CCA came in.
I know Carl Barks had some of his stories suffer censorship, like Back to the Klondike at the part where a young $crooge McDuck gets drugged by a ballroom girl then goes on a murderous rampage and kidnapps her.

Re: The Comics General
oh sorry Ivo, i didn't mean comics in general at all, just specifically DC. it's not that i hate the golden age or silver age, i just wanted to kinda let triert know as far as DC superheroes it takes getting used to especially if you're newly exploring a vastly different time. but yeah i agree with you <3
