Yeah, this happens to all double layered Wii discs. It happened to me. It's usually because your Wii lens are dirty.
So don't send it to Nintendo just yet. Buy a Laser Lens Cleaner kit and put the disc in the Wii disc slot. Wait for the message "insert game disc" to pop up and take the Laser Lens Cleaner Disc out. Put Brawl back in and it should work. At least, it did for me.
^My wii knows better than than to not work or else it will be...punished...

Ah, I remember this, the long anticipated with for the game, then got the error message again and again and again and again and again. Then I sent it back to Nintendo, and then waited another 3-4 weeks for it to come back...
Anyhow enough about my sad life, send it to Nintendo, they'll fix it for free.
