Poseidon's Gameboy Factory. Image-heavy.
Re: Poseidon's Gameboy Factory. Image-heavy.
Wowowow you guys here comes a console: the Kill Bill NES
!!!
so i bought 2 nes consoles off craigslist for $50 total. super good deal, super nice guy.
a week or so before that, i bought another nes for $20, but it needed a new pin connector. this one was super gross and yellow from !!!smoking!!!, and i tried to clean it up, but nothing really took the stain out. i tried just about every fancy online nerd remedy, but i didn't feel like leaving it in the sun as most suggested. what it did, though, was remove the nintendo entertainment system text on the cart door, which i was slightly angry about.
no worries, though, because this is what you do with an ugly, yellowed system: you give it a kill bill themed paint job. oh yeah, i changed the pin connector too, so it works again.
i'm pretty dang happy with how this turned out. i'm going to attempt to LED mod the controller soon, but i'm not expecting it to go very well. we'll see!
i'm planning on leaving one of the remaining to nes consoles plain, since they're both really nice case-wise. one, however, is going to be megaman themed. hoping to start on it soon.
edit: to clarify, the red-splattered black thing i'm holding in the first frame of the picture is the back of the matching controller.

Wow you pulled off that theme exactly how I would picture something like that. As always, top of the line.

That is actually amazing.
Dreamcast when?

Re: Poseidon's Gameboy Factory. Image-heavy.
Since Retro so kindly reminded me this was a thing, I'll post some new stuff.
This is my baby. It was an experiment that actually went exactly the way I hoped it would!
It's a clear gameboy with holographic glitter & black spraypaint on the inside. White backlight. No prosound yet.
and this is the current fam:
I have a new controller to post a little later as well-- same idea as the glitterboy, but painted on a Wavebird controller. It's a really hard paint job to photograph, but it's lovely in person.

This was one of the best threads to see come back.
Hope to see more of these, they're the best.

Awww, I'm super glad you guys are into these!! Thanks, that srsly means a lot.
@fox boiii: They typically take 2-3 days, but the actual work is done in 1-2. A lot of it is a waiting game while the paint fully dries. That's the hardest part, tbh! I'm super impatient, especially if I'm excited about a specific paint job or color combo. The backlighting process only takes like a half hour, (maybe a little longer if the polarized film is hard to remove. that part can kinda suck.) and the painting process doesn't take very long, but it usually has to be left alone for like 24 hours.

Neat, do you just buy your gameboys have ebay or do you have some sort of massive collection of them hidden somewhere?
Or maybe it's a trade secret...

Ohmygosh, I'm pretty sure you're unmatched when it comes to these. I especially like the purple--my favorite color range--aesthetics on those bottom ones. And however proud you are of your experiment, you should double it, because that is quite super.

I so wish I could admire your work.
Hmmm, I wonder how feasible it would be to remodel the inside of an original GBA to fit the circuitry of a GBA SP. Or retrofitting a GameGear case with the guts of a newer gaming handheld.

That's very possible!! It would require a bit of case modding on the inside and definitely some trimming and relocating of certain parts of a GBA SP motherboard. My personal favorite is when people put SP guts into an original gameboy housing. It looks so nice. It's almost kind of like how people make portable handheld Gamecubes and N64s-- I don't know how people do that stuff, but it's so fun to look at.Jeffery Mewtamer wrote:I so wish I could admire your work.

Thanks for the nice feedback, everyone!!
I haven't really taken any good photos of the gamecube controller that matches the holographic gameboy, but I did get a video that's sort of decent at the beginning. Click: instagram.
It's suuuuper sparkly, especially in the sun, but it's so hard to photograph it accurately.

Re: Poseidon's Gameboy Factory. Image-heavy.
Hardware mods in general are pretty cool, whether we're talking simple paint jobs, or completely rearranging the internals and building a custom case to make a home console portable or make a multi-console(I've at leat once seen eith an all-in-one Sega MasterSystem/Genesis/CD/32X/Saturn/Dreamcast or an all-in-one NES/SNES/N64/Gamecube), but I think there's a certain elegance to fitting newer guts into a pre-existing old case. Still, the purely cosmetic mods are kinda hard to appreciate when one is blind.
