I'll be hype when they let us play the beta somewhere other than at Blizard. :(

I'll be hype when I can dominate all the Tracers with Widowmaker. My 525 hours in TF2 will finally be put to good use.

Re: Overwatch
Personally, I prefer this format over team fortress', at least what I heard of it. Each character does a specific thing, tracer, for example, will always be fast and fragile, and you don't have to wonder what weapon a character will have. If they are going to add new items to the game with a layout like that, more characters are sure to come with them to keep the game by its own rules, at least so far.
Honestly, I prefer that to the typical "is that spy really dead? I dunno, he has like 6 watches"

hey there! I don't have anything to put here for the moment, you can just move along now.
Re: Overwatch
First, let's clear something up for everybody: it's not a TF2 clone in the slightest. It has a gamemode similar to one that TF2 made (Payload), but otherwise there's really nothing similar except for both games being first person team-based shooters.
That being said it looks really good, and all the characters look super interesting, I really can't wait for the beta to play it.

It isn't. Do I need to post a giant rant about why it is in no way similar to TF2 to get it through to people?EvilPinkamina wrote:Its TF2.
It definitely looks like an amazing game and while I'm upset I didn't get any beta invites and I will definitely buy it when it comes out, it ISN'T SIMILAR TO TF2 IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.

I can't wait for it. I haven't seen much gameplay but it feels like MOBA meets FPS and I like that.

It definitely plays similar to tf2.
It feels like a better version of the warcraft 3 mod for tf2.

Re: Overwatch
I'm not usually interested in games with team oriented goals, but I have to say that I'm excited about Overwatch. Besides the exciting gameplay, the character designs are fun to look at. It seems that each character has their niche, that everyone is useful given the right circumstances. If the creators continue working on building and balancing the solid foundation of Overwatch, I feel that it will become a considerably popular game.
I wish the stages were designed better, though. That's the one weak point that stands out to me. In games such as these, poorly designed stages can be extremely frustrating.

I'll let my good buddy Totalbiscuit explain why it isn't similar to TF2.
A game being colourful and not being a gritty war simulator does'nt mean it looks similar to TF2. People said SMNC looked like Tf2. People said Loadout looked like TF2. And, people say that Overwatch looks like TF2. Those people are the people that don't understand artistic stylization or otherwise lead boring lives where everything is either realistic or cartoonny.
Also just because it's an FPS does'nt mean it plays like TF2, like Totalbiscuit says in the video - Yes, it has a Payload gamemode, and yes, it takes cues from TF2, but TF2 doesn't have - 21 classes, only one weapon per class, abilities, ults (barring Ubers), maps that transition between CP AND Payload, the list goes on.
As a matter of fact, it shares more similarities with Monday Night Combat/Super Monday Night Combat than either game shares with TF2 itself.
I think I've made my point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, people that DO have Overwatch - Are there any announcements for upcoming Heroes or Maps?
Also the part about Warcradt makes no sense because Warcraft is a MOBA and TF2 is a F2P FPS.

Re: Overwatch
I was referring more to the gameplay looking like TF2. It looks nothing like TF2 aesthetically.A game being colourful and not being a gritty war simulator does'nt mean it looks similar to TF2.
It takes the team based TF2 class style, and injected mobas into it. Also I'm p sure the CP to Payload either it already exists on TF2 through a community made map, or Source can't handle multiple objectives. The separate classes with abilities is why i compared it to the warcraft 3 mod of tf2. There are multiple characters in the warcraft 3 mod that have very similar playstyles to characters in overwatch.
Warcraft 3 is an RTS. The "MOBA" genre was created in the Warcraft 3 editor. Also the Warcraft 3 Mod is a TF2 mod that gives characters abilities based off of Warcraft 3 heroes. I compare Overwatch to this because the characters play similarly with the abilities given. For example, after playing Tracer I noticed similarities to playing Chronos Scout with the in-and-out playstyle and the warping around. Also the part about Warcradt makes no sense because Warcraft is a MOBA and TF2 is a F2P FPS.

Re: Overwatch
Glad you bumped the thread, I completely forgot about it and was probably going to make a new post some time this week if you hadn't bumped it.
With each day that goes by, my hype for the game only increases. It looks super fun, it has way more classes than TF2, it has great visuals, a cosmetic system that kind of works? I don't like the "only get items from an RNG every time you level up" system, but it doesn't seem too bad, and as far as I'm aware you're guaranteed a non-voiceline/spray item in every loot crate.
Also, it has some of the best character designs I've ever seen. Of course, a lot of the characters aren't very interesting (Cyber Ninja, intelligent Gorilla, handsome bishonen with a bow as a weapon from Japan, and don't even get me started on Soldier 76 and his stupid hairstyle or Widowmaker/Tracer), but they make up for it so much with Zenyatta.
Such a cool concept, a monk robot, and I'm surprised I've never really seen it before as a major character (I could see it having been a one-shot character in Samurai Jack or something).
I totally pre-ordered it and am jealous of anybody that got invited into the beta. Anxiously I await May, I'll be out of College for the summer, I'm going to Florida to party at Universal Studios, and Overwatch will be hitting my library.
This is actually one of the few games where I'm curious to see if anybody here (that I don't dislike) would be willing to play together; I have yet to get the "bunch of friends buy a new game and learn it together" experience. I assume Crash and maybe Mooncow would be up to playing, I'm curious about Aidan or Retro though in particular.
Who does everybody else plan on maining? Usually things like this tend to be inaccurate like in the Sm4sh roster thread, but I'm definitely going to try my hand with Zenyatta (even though he's basically dead in the water after his nerf), and Pharah and Junkrat both look like they'd play very similar to TF2's Soldier and Demo, respectively.

Re: Overwatch
I'm excited to play McCree, Lucio (hoping they buff his damage a little, but he's at an alright place right now), Zenyatta when they eventually denerf him, and D.VA.
Very not excited about Genji, Zarya, and playing against Junkrat/Good Tracers.
I got my game bought and I'm just waiting now. Very excited, trying to get everyone I know to buy it. So yeah, I'd totally be down to play with people here.
PS I'll be updating later when I have time.

Re: Overwatch
I haven't preordered, not sure if I will, but I'll be buying the game. Just not sure from where at the moment. Game costs $90AUD and we don't have very good preorder bonuses.
DVA seems pretty cool, I like the idea of tanking damage and then making an escape. Sorta reminiscent of playing offensive Engineer in TF2, just tank as much damage as you can and then bail out. Rinse and repeat.
Looks like Mcree will be popular. From watching ster he seems like the go-to character to get some work done.
I'm thinking this game doesn't suit having mains, I think it's best for the team that you play whatever suits the situation. We'll inevitably have 3 widowmakers on each team anyway though

Re: Overwatch
I suspect the game will end up like TF2's respective competitive metas - either a small amount of players per team with a specific set of classes being the strongest but other classes being situationally viable, or a larger roster for each team that has essentially every player playing a specific role.
That being said I imagine it'd still be feasible to only main a specific Hero, even if you don't get into the competitive meta. Very few competitive games that have strict metas that require swapping character played last in the competitive scene.

DROPPED
I don't need Blizzard being a nanny moral guardian telling me what I can or can't have in my game.
That pink hair tumblrite character was the first warning in the direction blizzard was going, so I'm not surprised. But if they really wanted to compete with TF2, they could help by not caving in like complete cuckoo's to the whiniest people.

Re: Overwatch
Concerning that recent scandal, I feel like the only way they could please everybody here is if they came out with a better reason as to why they're removing the pose - backing out of its removal will cause even more of an uproar, and everybody's already losing their **** over it being removed. The biggest problem is that the situation went down like -
*Blizzard Forum*
*Post with 10 pages of discussion where the OP is literally just "Tracer is in a sexy pose. It doesn't fit her character. It's sexist. Change it."*
First Blizzard staff response - "Sure, we'll remove it, we want everybody to feel like superheroes"
It's a stupid movement and if they give a better reason to remove it - maybe because it looks too similar to Widowmaker's over the shoulder animation, or it's too generic of an animation so they wanna give her more unique animations, or even because "we don't want a huge pr shitstorm over our game that isn't even out yet because of such a stupid topic", but just going "yea sure ok" makes them look incredibly, well, spineless.

Re: Overwatch
Blizzard could have had no problem at all if they simply ignored this person, how many people on a daily average complain about their classes in WoW being too underpowered and other classes being overpowered?
Re: Overwatch
That is also true, but you bet your ass eventually that post would still find its way to reddit and news sites and Blizzard would be labelled as sexist and SJW pigs.

Re: Overwatch
I'm not saying they wont, hell, they might even get some bigger names to help support them. Give it a moment and you'll see Kotaku and Polygon reporting on how the Overwatch fanbase is full of "misogynistic men who only like women for their tits and ass." Despite the fact that you'll usually see women complaining along with us every single time this keeps happening.
Re: Overwatch
Yep, it's already hit r/all and PC Gamer. And everybody's arguing about it and how it's clearly made that way because 'sex sells'. Pretty amusing.

Re: Overwatch
I think it's hilarious how that's considered to be offensive. Have these people not played GTA or the Witcher or anything? Her butt isn't even the center of attention with that pose.
It's been pretty clear from the very beginning that the character designs are all pretty sexy, there's no denying that. The fact they're complaining about a pose just shows they need to make sure that Blizzard knows that the little Tumblrites are triggered. I'm glad they haven't changed anything else.
I think these people just need to accept that Overwatch is a game full of nice asses
