Most terrifying game you've ever played
So we've all been there, in our rooms at 1 AM, playing some spooky game that came out. When suddenly, you realize you're terrified and will not be sleeping well tonight.
Anyone have a horror game they found particularly terrifying?
I'm pretty much afraid of all horror games, but I remember years ago an event that happened while I was playing Resident Evil 3 at night. I don't think I was alone, otherwise I would've woken the house, but I was in the police station walking towards a door when Nemesis BASHES THE WALL DOWN in an effort to kill me.
I was pretty much ready to pee myself, and paused the game screaming. I was, when I was little at least, pretty scared of that game and I wanna say I only really beat it when I was older and not so afraid of PS1 graphics haha.

Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
The only horror games that I have played personally and were scared of at the time were "Im Scared" and "I see you", both were with a friend at her house, in the middle of the day, when we were freshmen or sophmores in highschool. Though she was more scared of it than I was. (She cant handle horror well, I can somewhat, often times what startles me is HER screams and not the game which would then cause me to laugh)
I've played the first FNAF up to night 5 on a friends account, only time I ever even jumped was because; I had checked the door lights and put the camera tablet up only to realize I left the right door open when I wasn't supposed to, so I lowered the tablet to go get it quickly, and Bonnie was in my face screaming into my earbuds. Thats really the extent of horror games I've personally played I'm poor and without access to fancy smancy new consoles/good game-handling computers, whoops.
From what I see on youtube, stories/customs on Amnesia can get pretty terrifying, but thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Slenderman can go prance in the meadow for all I care.

MGS2 and Metroid Fusion are the only game to truly scared me.
This in Metroid Fusion. Just imagine that when you're 7 years old or so, and it's all dark.
MGS2 scared me all too well. But it's a spoiler since it happens near the end.

I've heard from some people that the flamethrower kinda ruined the sense of helplessness. What did you think about it?

Now that I think of it, I think Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES is the closest thing to a horror game I've ever played unless you count the few Castlevania games I've played. Can't say I've ever been scared by a game.
Speaking of media in general The Night on Bald Mountain segment of Fantasia creeped me the **** out as a child, but didn't bother me last time I watched it.

The only thing scary about that game to me was the helplessness you get when you run out of good items haha.

Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
Surprisingly, this game did make me go "AHHH" when the Alien caught me once. So I guess I'd put it up there. But sadly, the AI is quite easy to manipulate and makes the game slightly easier as long as you know what you're doing.Enzo03 wrote:Alien: Isolation
To be honest the flamethrower is more trouble than it's worth, you use it on the Alien and it has basically goes into rage mode and never leaves you alone. Usually the Alien would run around searching for you, but if you do use the flamethrower on it. It seems to know where you are and will always come after you, so you sort of have to keep the flamethrower out and you have to keep an eye out for it or you die.Fox Boy wrote:I've heard from some people that the flamethrower kinda ruined the sense of helplessness. Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
From my experience, Silent Hill for the PlayStation is the most terrifying. The ambience, atmosphere, sense of helplessness, and drama makes this game what it is, a true survival horror.
“Life’s not cruel until you put the game controller down.”
This is a little philosophical gem that I said when I was insanely tired.

I..this is dumb...but I got scared of Epic Mickey.......
omo'' so scared I've never completed it... I always NOPE at the clock tower...THE FIRST BOSS.
I don't really know why I'm so scared.. I love the story line and the gameplay.. but the enemies and the bosses scare the crap out of me... maybe because they look so much like the Disney characters I've come to love? lol I don't know...all I know is that I've never been able to get far after the clock tower.
I probably would have thrown the disc and break it if they had the original song put in for the clock tower boss instead of the one that you hear in game..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2zwo2Vjr1s fan rendition of what the song might have sounded like...
thank god the copyright for the song prevented it.. >,<
I can't play Epic Mickey, yet I've completed American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns 85%...

Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
Not so terrifying now, but when I played Bioshock for the first time there were some points that really had me. Maybe due to my age at the time, but still I think it holds the record for me personally.
I was honestly being extremely careful when I first played this for like the first 30-40 mins, because I was expecting a jump scare. I think that was the worst part was the anticipation that I had created, after I had figured out what was going on I didn't mind to much.Enzo03 wrote:Alien: Isolation

I'm very glad this game didn't come out when I was a little kid...ShadriaFan wrote:I..this is dumb...but I got scared of Epic Mickey.......

Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
I haven't really played the game for myself just yet, but even just watching playthroughs of Yume Nikki and the similar games in its "genre" had been pretty jarring to me a few years back. The ambient, lonesome nature of the game and the disturbing stuff inside of Madotsuki's dreams kept me away from playing, though I did read some of the manga without a problem.
Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
I'm probably going to have to give that to Super Paper Mario, particularly because even though it isn't completely filled with horror, Paper Mario is one of the last game series I'd ever expect to scare the hell out of me (coming from somebody who wasn't really disturbed by anything Thousand Year Door threw at him). Just the thought of the World of Nothing sends chills down my spine, and please don't get me started on the River Twygz Bed...
As for a more straight answer/actual horror game, I'm going to have to give that to Silent Hill. While I still haven't been able to play it yet, I watched Roahm Mythril's lets play on it, and it really managed to freak me out at times (though it probably would've been even more so if I were to play it).

Splatoon
Amnesia the dark descent.
It wasn't a game that jumped out at you very often (unless you played custom maps) but it always gave you this feeling that something was there, and the Justine story was even worse, in my opinion.
That and you could make custom maps, so I could probably could still play it and find something new.

Re: Most terrifying game you've ever played
This thing gave me more nightmares as a kid than any other video game.
Also, Epic Mickey has a very unsettling atmosphere, but it was still really enjoyable, their original concept artwork was even creepier.
I'm not one for horror games, but I honestly couldn't bring myself to play Killer 7 ON THE FIRST LEVEL because it creeped me out too much. 2spooky4me.
