No Man's Sky

Post by BlackLuigi7 »

I didn't see a topic about this anywhere, so I'd figured I'd make one to see how people are taking it.

I bought No Man's Sky with zero expectations. I literally did not care about the game, until I saw people starting to make real-life journals and logs of their finds and of their own little stories, and I instantly fell in love with the idea. I just wanted to fly around and find things.

So I went ant started a journal, and purchased the game not long after release to play. It was a nightmare. My computer is no real slouch; despite the fact it's going on four years old now. I'm able to play modern games at 1080P at at least 60FPS on medium settings. This includes DOOM, which seemed to me to be a resource hog.
And the game simply did not work properly. I was able to get a stable 30 FPS, which is more than other people were able to get, but the gameplay itself just didn't work. And with the revelation that there wasn't any multiplayer, despite what the devs said, and performance drops whenever you do simple cutscenes like talk to someone, or get into a ship, just kinda killed it for me.

So how does everyone else feel about the game? Is it working fine for you, and do you love it? Or is it not so great?

Also, I have a nice video that sums up kinda the entire ordeal:

PS4 version crashes occasionally, but is stable for the most part.

I personally really liked the game. Maybe it's cause I didn't pay for it though.

I was going to preorder it several times. Never did, though, because Sean never just gave a 'yes' to the multiplayer question. The man always averted his eyes, mumbled it, and pointed out how unlikely it was to meet another player. That seemed pretty shady to me.

Didn't expect it to just straight up not have it, but since it was the deal breaker, glad I waited. But it still looks pretty cool and if they do procedural updates, I'll probably get it eventually. Since the planets resets every time you load it, I at least won't be left with a bunch of smoldering ruins ala online MineCraft.
