The fact that Metal Gear Survival is a game about reanimated corpses of things that should just be left dead is incredibly poetic.

Metal Gear?

Oh boy, get to once again drop into the shoes of the iconic Snak- oh, never mind, we get Fultoned soldier #732.

Well at least we get some more of that crazy fun plo- oh, it's in a different dimension.

Well at least we get great tactical espionage acti- it's co-op versus a hoard of zombies.

This is L4D with the FOX engine. Huh, I hate Konami and its pachinko as much as the next guy, but that description does not sound bad at all. Just wish it wasn't called Metal Gear.

^ You mean not at all right?

Anyhow, a multiplayer survival game based in the Metal Gear universe. Given how atrocious the online servers for MGSV were, this is only going to be complete garbage. I mean, there's a good chance they'll fix it since MGSV was heavily story based and seemed to have a multiplayer tacked on, but in general MGS games have had really bad online modes. Kojima also appears to have had nothing to do with it by the looks of it. Unless this was something he was working on after Ground Zeroes while working on Phantom Pain.

Konami is essentially trying to kill the only game series capable of giving them enough money to stay afloat as a company for no reason. This is an obvious cash grab, but it's so obvious that I'm more than certain it's going to fail when it's released.

The first game a huge publishing company makes without the lead writer involved, with a deep intrinsic lore that spans a almost three decades of games that explore multiple different genres, with an insanely large character roster to experiment and toy with.

Co-op Zombie Survival shooter in an alternate universe.

How the **** do they come up with this? Did they think of anything besides "the kids of this generation love zombie survival shooters"? How can a company be so ****** dense?

What's hilarious to me is that they've decided to make a zombie survival game out of it, because god knows EVERYONE wanted more of the skulls unit from V. They could've done a Star Wars extended universe thing and just created new characters that served as MSF/DD soldiers and told some story around that. Everyone would still be furious, me included, but it's a way more fitting concept and could show the world from another perspective, similar to Sons of Liberty.

I don't know.

I don't know a ton about MGS, and I haven't really gotten into the story because of how convoluted it is, but I do know the basics and some random tidbits.
I've been seeing some fans saying that the zombies and setting make sense lore-wise, because of some type of biological weapon. So I don't really see why people are making a huge fuss about the content of the game. If it fits in lore-wise, then you don't really have to worry about the story going to crap.

Zombies itself kinda sucks, but the game is supposedly just a side-game, that isn't being sold for full price. If it's like $30-40, I can understand its niche. It isn't supposed to be a supplement for the main games; it's just supposed to be an offshoot. Kinda like how Mario has NSMB, but at the same time has 3D world and Tennis. Or how WOW has Hearthstone.

It doesn't fit at all lore-wise, I don't know where you're getting that information from. I think it kinda fits MGSV's story to a small extent, but then again MGSV is considered to have the weakest/worst plot in the Metal Gear franchise, so take that as you will. Add that to the fact that just because it fits in with MGSV, doesn't necessarily mean it fits in with the majority of the lore and you have a big mess coming Konami's way.

Of course, they use the "ALTERNATE TIMELINE!" cop out to avoid any real criticism, but I guess that's to be expected out of a company like Konami. It's a shame that with a game as deep as Metal Gear they fell back on making another Zombie survival game. Not another Revengence, a game that was mostly well received. Not another Acid, which was a fun PSP game. Not an expansion to MGSV's online content to make it not have horrible netcode issues.

Even if it's an "alternate timeline", it doesn't excuse the fact that it doesn't make sense. Zombies don't exist in the game, Skull Soldiers do. Skulls aren't zombies. They're being controlled, yeah, but they're not "zombies" like what the trailer shows.

To bring up another point, Umbrella Corps was a spin off of the Resident Evil franchise that completely removed itself from the franchise lore and game mechanics. That game did horrendous at launch and costed only $30 I believe. Spinoffs aren't always bad, but more often than not they'll strike a hornet's nest for deviating too far from what the original game was all about.

This looks to me like Konami couldn't figure out what to do with the MGS franchise without Kojima, so in the meantime they made a zombie-survival game to rake in some cash with their only good IP at the moment.

EDIT: I suppose the only good thing to take out of this is that it will likely kill the MGS franchise, making sure Konami doesn't ever get a chance to drag it through the dirt ever again.
