"Fox Boy: World's Most Wanted Normie Detective"
Re: another CI game project maybe
what if it is Retro's Detective Agency and Fox is the protag.
or what if we rewrote the Lyle Liberty story, though I may just remember that one more fondly because it involved me. but it's based on Ace Attorney which, as I understand it, is basically in VN format already, right? (correct me if I'm wrong, I've never played a game from the series.)

You're right, it's basically a VN but with more interactive segments like searching crime scenes, examining tells, etc. A Phoenix Wright style game with Lyle Liberty would be really nice, and it could be based on that story I never finished if you wanted it to be.
Retro's detective agency would also be a good one, since it opens up the possibility of a lot of places to discover.

how does this look? of course, the real thing would be in script form and wouldn't say stuff like "she added", but I left that in there to show the difference in indentation between normal text and dialogue.
...the huge gap does bug me a little. I'll see what I can do about it. but in the meantime, is that text legible?

Text is fine, gap is needing to be fixed.
Also, have you considered doing that thing where the text is accompanied by a dark transparent background?

that is what's going on - it's just covering the entire screen so you can't see the parts of the screen that aren't covered by the textbox. here's the load screen for comparison, they're both using the same placeholder bg:
and here's what the game would look like if it had no names showing who's talking, like Higurashi, and Shizuku and Kizuato (those two are what I'm aiming for in the first place):

Nice, I thought so, but also couldn't tell if maybe you were just using darker grays in the background for the sake of showing off the text.

As long as I make some sort of cameo I'm good. I'll make a sprite later when I'm not grounded.
Also I think I have an idea for the logo of the game but I need a few days to make it. If you'd like I can go ahead and do that, if ya'll are set on making Retro's Detective Agency a thing.

Corvo isn't dead...he's just....just hiding ALRIGHT...chaoadventures wrote:Plot idea:
Make Fox investigate the death of Corvo on behalf of Retro.
But sure, that's a pretty decent. Maybe someone tipped me off on a lead, and I want Fox to follow it.
The Retro's Detective Agency timeline ended with my story. This could easily be some sort of random backstory.
Also if possible, I'd like to have some sort of appearance. It is my name on the game.
I guess "Retro's Detective Agency: Fox Boy faces the Heat" or some fun little subtitle could always show who is the main factor in the game.

That's it
Fox's detective agency
That way we don't have to waste resources by including Retro in any way, shape, or form.

Sorry, but the idea of you being a detective is because of my works. Your character would not exist otherwise, and thus is property of my post, thread and story.
I'll find a lawyer to sue you if you attempt to change any of it.
Trust me, I've got the best lawyer in the land.
But sure, "Hot Shot Fox and the mystery of the Snot Topped Box" is a great subtitle.

Re: another CI game project maybe
I think you forgot one thing. I created my own lawyer who just so happens to be the best lawyer ever, Lyle Liberty. He'll counter sue your stupid agency for all its worth and net me a profit margin so large that we'll be able to take this game straight up to AAA status.
Checkmate Retro.

Your character was created and placed into my story due to my story. For all accounts and purposes. I own him. I created the story, you were brought in to it and made to write the character.
In the end, the character was created for the story, written under the stories rules and guidelines and was used by myself and Picka however we pleased. You don't own him.
I own the story of course, and all characters used in the story.
Ron!

I left to get food and came back to this
if we're being honest I remember none of Retro's Detective Agency so this
and then Ace Attorney takes place because this is actually Law & Order
also I'm not sure if I want the story to include Corvo because it feels a little rude to do so without permission when said user hasn't been a part of the community for some time. just my thoughts though

You could always slightly alter the name.
Like maybe make his name Attano.

Re: another CI game project maybe
By Retro's logic, Sega owns every Sonic fanchar ever created. Hell, by Retro's logic, Sega owns every Sonic fanwork period. I know copyright law is hellishly ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure copyright on fanchars and fanworks are retained by their individual creators even if the more ridiculous parts of copyright law limit the ability for legally profiting on fanworks and give the owners(not necessarily the creators) of the IP the fanwork is based on a ridiculous amount of authority for shutting down fanworks.
Knowing absolutely nothing about Retro's Detective Agency, I'd argue Fox retains ownership of the characters he created within that setting provided he created them of his own volition and not under Retro's employ. If they were created under Retro's employ, however, the doctrine of work for hire means it's completely legal for Retro to steal Fox's IP.
In short: Copyright law is insane, but I don't think it's as insane as retro thinks it is.
More on topic, I hereby request to be a younger, PG-rated version of the wise, but dirty old man NPC. If you need a crappy sprite of my character, just take one of Lance's sprites from RGBYFRLG, give it bright violet hair and change any non-black parts of the outfit to purple. In fact, I think a purple-haired version of Lance's FRLG sprite was the first depiction of my Mewtamer persona ever created.

I think those talking about sprites might not realize that this is meant to be a visual novel and not an RPG, and in novel format. "sprites" in this context refer to standing drawings of the characters and their expressions, not small overworld RPG sprites. though these kind of sprites are also found in a lot of modern JRPGs, too, for dialogue.

should probably post how far I've gotten on the UI (not far but it looks acceptable):
but like I said, this is an off thing for when I get bored. in the process of working with solid buttons for this game though, I've realized that I prefer a modern Windows-inspired look as opposed to a classic Windows-inspired look when it comes to my own game, I mean, just look at the difference:
