Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
Ok, so we all were waiting for it and it finally showed, the Nintendo Switch (Previously known as the NX) is shown in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5uik5fgIaI. Do you know what this means? If a Sonic game with Chao Garden came out, WE COULD PLAY CHAO GARDEN ON THE TOILET! MY DREAMS MIGHT COME TRUE!
I'm extremely excited for this, but there can always be something that goes wrong. I mean, the Wii U was underwhelming because everyone first thought it as an extension to the Wii. I hope that this new device is a success because the whole concept of a console-based handheld device seems awesome.

Anyway, it looks interesting. It has a better name than "Wii U," for marketing purposes, anyway (what does the U even stand for, not to mention how people thought it was an add on, as you said.)
Sadly, though, the Wii U has made me more wary of Nintendo consoles, and since Zelda will still be on the Wii U, I will likely refrain from buying the Switch for a while. The games they showed off looked exciting, namely new Splatoon and some sort of Mario Kart.
Anyway, I know people are generally wary of Nintendo's new gimmicks for its consoles- I am as well. But this one seems to have potential (I probably thought that about the Wii U, too, and I have still the only played one game that integrated the game pad well, that being Splatoon.)

Project 2017 doesn't look like it has room for chao, but they could always re-release some GameCube games on it.Mamkute wrote:I'm going to stop you there, and say that that is already something from only our wildest dreams.
I really just want to know what this Mario game is and if it plays like 64 or even Sunshine. The 3D Land games are really abysmal personally, and I've had enough of Galaxy.
That one part looks really open. Like Delfino Plaza. It also has cactus people. I'm gonna guess you can talk to them too.

Dude, I know how unlikely it may be for us to get a Chao Garden in the near future. I just wanted to use some toilet humor...Mamkute wrote:I'm going to stop you there, and say that that is already something from only our wildest dreams.Rufflikerex wrote: If a Sonic game with Chao Garden came out

Not sure how to feel about it, I feel like it's spreading itself a bit thin trying to do too many things at once, but I've been wrong before. We'll see, though, battery life will probably be the biggest deciding factor for me.

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
Realistically, the best we can hope for in regards to Chao in the near or distant future is SADX/SA2B getting a handheld port that compares favorably with the PS360/Steam ports.
Also, if you want to play Chao on the toilet, there's always the TCG on GBA/SP/Micro/DS clssic/DS Lite.
Anyways, as described in the OP, this does not sound encouraging. Connecting to WiiU makes this sound like an add-on more than the WiiU's bad marketing ever did, and even if it's truly usable as a stand alone unit, being backwards compatible with both WiiU and 3DS games makes me fear that Nintendo isn't shredding the ball and chain of PowerPC or that the switch will be more expensive than is reasonable for its capabilities due to including two sets of old hardware for BC purposes.
Also, I think I'm leaning towards thinking the trend of codenames being better than final names continues, though at least it isn't as bad as Wii or WiiU.

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
I watched the trailer, thought it was pretty cool
but what HIT ME
was the splatoon segment at the end
I am SOOOOO HAPPPYYY!!!
In the 20 seconds of footage shown, multiple things people had been hoping for in a possible splatoon 2 were confirmed.
Splatoon Twitter has been sending teases of things as well
and the scene Nintendo used for splatoon, as an ESport, is very promising. They're going to do big things with splatoon and I'm everso hyped for the new game.
I'm definitely buying the Switch at launch, if it comes with splatoon as a launch title.
I have an addiction and I am not ashamed

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
I don't like it.
One thing I love and hate about Nintendo, is that they try to be different and bring people together. They have the mentality of the 80's and 90's, so while Microsoft and Sony want to bring people together online, Nintendo want to bring people together locally, to play games together offline in unique and interesting ways. When I saw the Wii U the first time round, I thought it would be a cool console, I mean the idea was you could have a console ON THE GO and other cool stuff that could be implemented, and in the end I was let down by third parties and Nintendo themselves. The console wasn't a failure, but it sure as hell wasn't a success.
This just seems like "Hey guys, let's take the Wii U idea and make it work" but that's the thing, it won't work. Gamers today don't want something like this, especially from Nintendo. They want a normal console from Nintendo with no "gimmicks" and some actual games. All they really want is a Gamecube 2, not a Wii 3.
I don't know, maybe I'm just looking at this from the Wii U perspective and it just reminds me of how that went. Personally I don't think it will do too well, but I will still get one because the Wii U had some gems and this console will be no different.

It was something like "Wii stands for 'We', and U stands for 'You', the gamer."Mamkute wrote:Anyway, it looks interesting. Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
WiiU has more games I want to play than PS4 and Xbone combined, but Nintendo does have a bad habit of alienating third party devs and the "dudebros" and "hardcore" segments of the gaming population. Nintendo's first party titles tend to be solid if uninspired iterations at worst and absolutely amazing at best, but that isn't enough if you want to compete in the big leagues.
If Nintendo doesn't want to end up in a niche where only Nintendo fanboys and fangirls ever care about what they do, the switch needs to at least be capable of supporting cheap ports of PS4/Xbone/PC games so it doesn't come dead last in cross plats, and that pretty much mandates a halfway decent x86 CPU, but again, the hinted WiiU bc indicates Nintendo might be sticking to PowerPC.
Here's hoping Nintendo at least implements custom controls better than they did bringing dual screens to home consoles or off-tv play and that the fact most of the crowd that made the Wii a commercial success has moved on to cheap mobile devices has sunk in.
With the Switch possibly being intended to replace both WiiU and 3DS, maybe it will at least capture the bulk of the handheld gamers who haven't become mobile gamers yet.

Oh look. Serious game developers.
...Not that most of them matter to me. But last I heard they were considered relevant to people who had any system considered "Not Nintendo".

It's just a list, it doesn't mean anything sadly.chaoadventures wrote:

Until I see some actual games coming from actual companies on that list, I'm not going to believe it.
The Switch just doesn't look like it will do well. I really wonder what Nintendo is thinking with it.

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
I've read elsewhere that the Switch is powered by a custom nVidia Teiga board(So ARM) and that there's an actual partnership between nVidia and Nintendo going on here with some speculating that the cancelled nVidia Shield 2 was reworked to become the Switch. I've also heard that Unity and Unreal Engine 4 support has been confirmed, which should make it far more appealing to third party devs.
At this point, the Switch is sounding like a beastly Android tablet without the overhead of Android, with a built-in system for custom game controls and an official dock that can stay permanently connected to a television whereas most existing tablets require awkwardly designed third party accessories for gaming controls and docking.
Assuming it isn't prohibitively expensive, the switch should be able to get most 3DS devs and users to migrate, pick up a slice of the IOS/Android markets, and appeal to people who have a WiiU or wanted a WiiU but could never justify the cost for the number of games. It might even get some ports of existing PS4/Xbone games and appeal to the few devs that stuck with the PSVita. Where Nintendo is going to have trouble garnering third party support is from devs targeting Neo, Scorpio, and High End PC.
Nintendo's bad business sense aside, I'm cautiously optimistic that the Switch will outperform the WiiU by a significant margin, but only time will tell if they can attract enough of the mobile market to make it another Wii.

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
Alright time for the big boy opinions.
I'd give the presentation a 7.5/10. While I'm still weary on the whole system, seeing some games made me feel slightly better about the whole thing.
Release date is my birthday, March 3rd worldwide, at around $299, so £249 would be my bet for Europe. Currently the only games that will release on the day are Zelda, 1-2 Switch and Arms. I might be off by a few, but I know those will be the ones for sure.
The games shown ranged from meh to really interesting. A new SMT game that's just in development was announced for the Switch, a new Mario game supposedly set in New York with Mario 64 esque world gameplay was announced, looks really good. Splatoon 2 as well. Xenoblade 2 and a new Fire Emblem were announced. No More Heroes sequel was announced along with that, so that'll be good.
Personally, it looks as good as the Wii U did when it was announced. So take that as you will. I'll probably get it day one for Zelda, it'll keep me occupied for a long time.
Biggest ****** blunder though, you now have to pay for online. Thanks Microsoft and Sony.
My wishes for the system overall is that Nintendo will try and bring back some old titles to the system. I'd love to see a new F-Zero or Metroid on the system, or for them to get their third parties to bring something onto there. Sega have tons of IP's for the taking, so they should really look into them the most.

my thoughts on last night:
- most hyped for sonic adventure as hijacked by The Super Mario Brother
- NO MORE HEROES 3
- NO MORE HEROES 3
- NO MORE HEROES 3
- I ALMOST PISSED MYSELF IRL AT NMH3
- nintendo justified how much they've been non-stop showing off zelda so that's real neat stuff
- $299 price tag is acceptable but i'm bitter that my brand new wii u over christmas wasn't any cheaper
- i like the switch having amiibo functionality a lot
- joycon controllers are cool and essentially getting two fully-functional mini controllers out of the box for my tiny hands and my sister's tiny hands is a great thing
- finally you can beat the bejesus out of your friend in the comfort of your own living room!!
- legitimately shocked pokemon didn't make a big appearance (not that this is a bad thing)
- everything else they showed was cool
- paying for online sucks although i think nintendo will have the cheapest online service to offer (i never paid for live and i won't pay for psn when i get a ps4)
- literally the pay for online announcement was the only bad thing
- excited for e3 where i feel like gamecube virtual console will be announced

If I had money, I'd probably get a PS4 instead of this. So far the Switch only has one game I really want. On the other hand, some of these other titles really sound like they'll draw a lot players in, so I don't think the doomsayers' predictions of the console bombing will come to pass. I think it will do modestly well, between the Wii and the Wii U in success most likely.
I have no future in buying video games and haven't since I graduated high school. But if I did I'd probably be more focused on Nintendo's handheld games right now. Granted, I always was.

yeah i figured it was gonna be pretty bad. but yea there's no way that i'm gettin that for awhile. i paid that much for my wii u and that things a joke. nmh 3 is cool but i'm not in any rush.
also i don't understand the joycon. i feel like they're straight up made for little kids. like i'm a full grown man, and a pretty big one at that, and I can't fathom using that thing at all. it doesn't seem so bad when it's connected, but separate it looks like a toy, not a piece of hardware that I'm getting for my multihundred dollar console

haha holy **** was that was garbage, looks like sony and microsoft have no competition to worry about
when i told people it'd be another wii u disaster i was just trying to get a rise out of generation z, i didn't think they would totally REPEAT THE EXACT SAME LAUNCH. inferior versions of 3rd party games i already have on better consoles, check; experimental or cult sequels consumers don't care about (seriously, nmh2 sold terribly, and critical acclaim means little if no one cares to buy it) check; c-tier games like splatoon, check; irritating and weak hardware, check; mediocre launch titles, check; delusional fans and delusions of grandeur, yeah
yikes

Re: Nintendo Switch (aka NX) finally teased!
My thoughts:
Mario Odyssey really caught my eye. The entire "Bowser tries to force Peach to marry him" thing should have happened sooner, really. It's Bowser we're talking about here. (I wouldn't count Super Paper Mario as doing it, because it wasn't Bowser forcing it) Also, it kinda feels like the Mario version of Sonic Adventure, especially with the Station Square-like city and the Mystic Ruins-like jungle.
The parental controls trailer was amazing. It was certainly a good idea to use Bowser and Junior.
The Sonic Mania trailer is the exact same on that we already saw. (I think)
No Pikmin 4?

The system's line up as a whole isn't very impressive, but personally I'm less impressed by its competitors as they stand right now, so by pure default this is an absolutely amazing selection of games to me.
I'm considering getting Sonic Mania on the PC, since I probably won't get the Switch immediately, but I can already see the horrors that experience will unleash. The terrible, awful experience.
