Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the Game Boy Color. Very enjoyable game, the early HP inspired video games were extremely creative with the books' setting and did a respectable job creating environments and scenarios that felt Potterish. And it's nice in general to play an RPG that's not Pokemon; I don't get a ton of chances to do that.

If you like that one, you should definitely play it's sequel.Ivogoji wrote:Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the Game Boy Color. Anyway, the last game I played was a delightfully terrible little DS edutainment game called "Animal Genius." It's very obviously meant for small children, yet I somehow found myself enjoying my time with it, and I assure you that it's not because the game is any manner of "hidden gem." Maybe I just have a taste for bad games I never knew about before.

puyo puyo quest
it's like puzzle and dragons but with more cute characters but still pay2win as hell
but still addictive if you're into card based rpg games and looking for something to pass the time, as with any mobile game
unfortunately no english localization. there was an attempt but it was re-skinned without the good puyo content so it crashed really hard
probably doesn't help that puyo has almost no marketing in english countries and a pretty invisible fanbase
6/10

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
Zork I. It's older than me, so it's full of things where small mistakes can render the game unwinnable and force you to scrap your save because you only realize your mistake several moves after you overwrote your good save. It's enough to make you wish for a hack/remake that adds autosave and infinite undo/redo or at least an easy mode where it's impossible to make the game unwinnable by mistake. Still, it's a fun game, though frustration might set in if you play too much at one time.
If I remember correctly, my two most recent attempts ended when I tried lighting the candles with the torch(which destroys the candles outright), and after getting attacked by the thief near the dam and wasting my lantern waiting for my wounds to heal enough I could pick up the jewels from the basin bed(and infinite lantern cheat would also be nice).

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
I'll review as many as I want to, and I've played all of the said games within at least the past week for at least 20 hours total each.
First, the most recently played, Overwatch. The gameplay is supremely solid, everybody has already raved and ranted about how good it is, and I have to agree. It's a great arcade shooter that just needs time to develop a bigger and balanced map/character roster because it does tend to get stale. I also absolutely ****** hate the lootcrate and duplicate gold systems and they stop the gaming from being a perfect 10/10, though I will admit that I have both spent well over $100 on the lootboxes alone, and every now and then I do keep playing until I get enough credits for another lootbox. Solid 9/10, the core gameplay is almost perfect and always a joy, but if it had a cosmetic system like TF2 it'd be much better. It's basically the best sequel to a game it has no actual relation to in a long time.
Second, League of Legends. I ****** love and hate this game. relying on 4 idiots to help you win is borderline corporal punishment, annoying characters to play against like Illaoi, Riven and Pantheon make any game a grind as you try to stay even in CS, and the prices for skins are absolutely bat**** stupid ($10 for one average looking skin. There are over 130 different characters each with multiple skins. Very few have any good looking skins that cost less than $10), but the satisfaction of a well-fought game with your team winning by the skin of your teeth off of a well played final teamfight, or better yet, carrying your otherwise hopeless team to victory from the very brink of defeat by careful and strategic play on your own part is always super satisfying. 8/10
Third, Dragonball Xenoverse 2. Animation and art are the best Dragonball games have ever had. When an evil character enters a power-up form and it focuses on their face, each character has a unique facial pose, and they always look insanely well animated and accurate to the anime/manga incarnations.
Otherwise the game is really bad. Customization options that are really limited (a lot of the human and Saiyan exclusive outfits are just redubs of alerady existing outfit pieces but with different logos and the ability to customize the colours, you can only change super moves and transformations, otherwise every character of that gender and species fights exactly the same, and every character has problems unique to them, like Majins getting the absolute worst transformation that turns them into a recoloured Kid Buu), a fighting system that, while impactful and also well animated, is too simplistic to be enjoyable for more than one playthrough (only two different inputs, light and heavy, which eventually turns into just mashing the buttons in a different order and sometimes peppering in ultimates), a shitload of bugs (I've fallen out of the hub world into nothingness at least 3 times now, and Expert missions are STILL literally unplayable online and have been since release a month ago), and not nearly enough variety in the normal gameplay to warrant more than one playthrough unless you're masochistic and need to kill time, like me.
If you even have a passing interest in Xenoverse 2, don't be fooled, it's an RPG with a fighting game battle system, NOT a fighting game by a long shot. It has a much better and more easily understandable system than the Tenkaichi series, but the original Budokai 3 still outdoes it. It's also apparently almost EXACTLY the same as Xenoverse 1, to the point of it being christened Xenoverse 1.5 by the DB community.
A 6/10. It's fun, and as a Dragonball fan, it's definitely better than another Burst Limit, but there's so much that mares the core experience down it makes it hard to justify buying it.
Finally, DBZ Budokai 3. It's definitely a fighting game, and while the system is enjoyable and punchy, it also shows its age very much so with how clunky and slow it can tend to be, and the Dragon Fury RPS system is absolute bollocks and shouldn't be in the game to begin with. That being said, it's still a very enjoyable experience, and while it doesn't have nearly the roster that the Tenkaichi series or even Xenoverse 2 have, it's still a much better game over-all than either. The Dragon Universe mode can get grindy at times (especially the Inside Buu Super Buu fight as Vegeta and Goku, **** is stupid), but it doesn't really get dull even though you have to play through the mode at least once with more than 7 characters. Also, Broly's DU mode is super fun, you just kick the **** out of other various Saiyans. Get rid of Dragon Rush mode and make Supers and Ultimates less time consuming/flashy, and it'd be a perfect game. 8/10.

PS4 Overwatch - Pretty good, the controller surprisingly handles just fine on console, and it's super pretty, since my laptop can hardly handle the game on lowest graphics settings. Having to relearn what button does what, though, is always a pain. Also Zenyatta feels way better on console controller than PC keyboard/mouse in my opinion.

The Resident Evil PS4 remake.
First RE game I've played. Love the atmosphere. The gameplay is expectedly archaic. I do not appreciate walking into zombies that are slightly out-of-frame.
Overall I'd give it a "might play again later" out of 10.

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
Pokemon Sun and Moon.
Probably one of the most competently made Pokemon games ever in my opinion, I seriously enjoyed almost everything this game had to offer. The story was surprisingly fun for a Pokemon game, I liked the characters a lot. The gameplay was the same old same old, although the addition of gimmicky Trials was a fantastic way to shake up the formula after most of the gyms in the series had been glorified monotype "routes", essentially. The boss Totem Pokemon was an absolutely genius idea and I seriously would love to see more ideas like it in the future. The designs of the new Pokemon were my favourite in a long, long time, and the music was absolutely amazing.
The only problem I have are a few quality of life changes that made the game more inconvenient. Horde training was so much better and quicker for EV training than SOS battles, though hordes tanked the frame rate so I understand why they had to go. The lack of a bike and inclusion of a Tauros that only runs when you hold B paired with no easy running around route makes waiting for an egg to hatch something I actually have to be paying a lot of attention to, which I suppose is just a small problem from me. And levelling a Pokemon to 100 is a bloody nightmare - nowhere is good for it.
Overall, a very solid game. An easy 8/10 when put in numerical terms.
Steins;Gate Zero.
Steins;Gate Zero was something I was worried about. After the incredible first game, I was concerned because I didn't want an unnecessary sequel to poke holes in a franchise that had been so good. However, after 100%ing it I feel relived. Fantastic writing, wonderful art style, and enjoyable characters that are fun to interact with and developed well leave me wondering whether the original Steins;Gate is better or not after playing. A game that made me cry a few times, really empathise with the characters, laugh at funny scenes, smile at sweet ones, and explored the universe of the characters more, it easily ended up being one of my favourite PS4-owned titles this year. I can't decide whether to give it a 9 or a perfect 10, but I don't think numerical value can say much about it. It's absolutely incredible, either way.

Pikmin 3
I arrived in the Tropical Area of the game for the 2nd time recently, and it is very fun, yet still very challenging to me. So far, I'd rate it a solid 8/10. It is very enjoyable, and is a good entrance to the RTS genre as a whole. It's shockingly simple for it being an RTS. It looks amazing, it sounds amazing. It controls amazing. Controls are a little hard to get used to at first, but I got into the hang of it right when it gets challenging.

Overwatch (PC)
Definitely some of the most fun I've had with a shooter in a very long time. Had a friend bug me to play it constantly during the open beta, and when I finally relented, I played it to hell and back... then the beta ended and I played absolutely nothing until it released because nothing filled the void. Have definitely slowed down since then, but there's nothing quite as fun as having a full team of six friends working together well in a big team fight. Currently mostly playing Lucio and D.va because I love how much their abilities throw a monkey wrench into fights, and pushing people off cliffs never gets old.

Bowser's Inside Story. Friend loaned it to me.
A damn fine RPG. A clever idea for a setting and dodging mechanics that makes grinding and generally fighting simpler mooks not completely mind-numbing. One complaint I have is that combat has a bad habit of dragging out... due to the dodging mechanics I just praised, ironically enough.
Otherwise, I'd say it's worth a buy.

Fable II. Good game, but the bugs and the obnoxiously repetitive villagers among other things keep it from being great. I'm getting real sick of my spouses divorcing me for no reason. Also the fact that everybody automatically knows about bad deeds you've done when there were no witnesses is kind of lame.

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
Playing Soul Calibur IV, it's a fun game but compared to 2 and 3 more about quick action rather then story. It's story is more like the arcade mode from Soul Calibur 2 with a few cutscenes in between. I fear it didn't worry about adding stuff like weapon master mode or the top down strategy game *forget what its called* from Soul Calibur 3 because it had a network mode and they worried too much about making that run fine.
But I do like that every characters story is kind of different from one another instead of ALL doing the same exact battles and final boss. *though most do fight the same boss*

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
...This game fascinates me. It's not that it's all bad or all decent, it's that it bounces between the two.
Sometimes it's a romp through interesting areas with cool puzzles, other times it's going through lame stealth sections and waiting for the army of loading screens to buzz off.
Sometime's it looks great, with believable animation and good textures, other times it's Harry Potter 64.
Sometimes it sounds great, other times it's Ron and Hermione pestering me to go to the plot or to end the day or to stop shooting every Hufflepuff I see.
I mean, I got it for a buck fifty. For that price, it could be one of the worst games ever made and it'd still be worth the price of admission. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone.

Re: ALRIGHT MAGGOTS
Overwatch
A game that started out to me as the break I needed from TF2. It eventually turned into the game I hate playing just as much as TF2. All my friends play this game far more than I do and I was the one who was excited to get it. Kinda sucks since it's not like the game is bad or anything, it's just a mess at times with how competitive works, how the community works, how the game itself is refusing to work at times for me (I upgraded my computer to a better processor and somehow it made the performance worse as a result. It sucks, but I'll have to deal with it. Same thing happened to TF2).
Gameplay is solid, characters are interesting, but the music is... meh. It's actually one of the dullest, least memorable game soundtracks I've ever listened to. It's all incredibly stock and has mostly the same exact sound. Generic heroic trumpets playing in the faint distance. I guess you could argue the POTG music is pretty memorable, but I wouldn't say that's enough to convince me the game has a good soundtrack.
