Puyo Puyo General

Post by Aruesso »

you know, the other SEGA series that hasn't really shown its face in the USA properly since maybe
*checks watch*
2004?

anyways, a new installment of the series got released recently, Puyo Puyo Chronicles
Puyo Tetris still gets online players
Puyo Puyo Quest also has quite a base of active players (myself included)

been finding myself very into it lately and studying so i can properly comprehend some of the text from the games, and wishing it got more attention in English speaking countries

share your thoughts, experiences, comments, etc

I think you mean Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine General ;^)

I enjoy Puyo Puyo but not as much as Tetris. The crossover on the PS4 was really fun to play but it was impossible to understand due to being entirely in Japanese. Don't have a lot of stories about Puyo Puyo, I'm not that good at making combos and stuff with it to truly affect the other player, but I guess I'm average at the game.

The final mission of Mean Bean Machine though, damn that's hard.

Spoiler:
I only played Mean Bean and Fever and I've always wanted to play the others. But I can't read or speak Japanese, so...

But my recent experiences with Mean Bean Machine with real people were, that it was just a race to see who could make the biggest combo first, and then watching the one who didn't struggle to come back. And then lose. And I always felt Scratch was harder than Robotnik himself, because Robotnik would eventually start making combos that were too big for his own good.

As for Fever, my brothers and I play it every once and a while. And occasionally read about how to actually play the game. And quote memorable things when the need arises.

Oh boy, people actually know about this franchise?
I've played Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Sega Classic Collections on the Gamecube(or whatever it's called)
I've played Puyo Puyo Tsu... on the Sega Classic Collections(or whatever it's called) on the 3DS,
I've played 7 and 15th Anniversary on an emulator.

It's fun.

Here's a little tidbit: Rin Hoshizora from the Love Live! School Idol Project had become the new mascot for the Puyo Puyo franchise (and less recently, Sega as a whole), both for a limited time only, when she won the public vote for both UFO catcher partnership campaigns in the Sega stores all across Japan. It was quite a marketable business tactic for Sega to employ, given the spike in popularity and demand for the Love Live! School Idol Project after the second season came out.
“Life’s not cruel until you put the game controller down.”

This is a little philosophical gem that I said when I was insanely tired.
