fyi i loooooove foo fighters and am incredibly hyped about their new album, and i absolutely love all of their new singles, especially feast and the famine

You should really work hard at expanding your musical tastes. Watching your song of the week and you talk about your musical tastes over the years I notice it really only spans a couple of genres, it's really only alt rock (basically mainstream grunge and post-grunge music) and some popular punk/(post) hardcore. That's not really a bad thing but if you're someone who professes music is their life then you need to take in more music or your peers who also feel the same about music as a passion will look down on you.

This is especially true if you plan to be a musician or go into the music industry. Even if you main in one genre or sub genre you still need to have knowledge of others. If you only listen to the same kind of music your material will sound uninspired and homogenous. The most critically acclaimed bands are ones that can vary up their sounds.

For example I know how much you love your Foo Fighters, but one of the bands Dave really likes is Deerhoof. He makes one genre of music, but doesn't limit his listening to that.

I'd get a last.fm, let's you find more/new music. Also you can do fun things like make charts n stuff. Like this:

Also genres on that collage are: neo psych/experimental/noise collage, jazz fusion/hip hop, indie pop, hardcore hiphop, psych pop/art pop/glam, post rock/noise rock, math rock, lofi avant-folk, indie/funk rock

I include that for an example of what I mean in terms of having a diverse musical taste. And that's not even that diverse, that's only my 9 most played albums for this week.

I recommend getting a last.fm and checking out /mu/ or rate your music. Or don't. It's up to you. I just really think you need to expand, especially when I see how static your tastes have been in the time we've shared a forum. If you want to be successful in the music industry it's fact you need to open yourself up to more kinds of music.

song of the week is the song i like the most at the time which is usually a hard rock or grunge song

there are lots of songs i have listened to or listen to that i enjoy that aren't rock but they don't go on song of the week because they aren't my favorite (like that Uptown Funk song, Sugar Ray and Sublime songs, and a few more techno songs)

But I have no interests in music as a career because just like freelance artists it isn't an easy path to break into, and I'd rather go with what I'm learning to do and enjoy
