Re: it is 1 in the GOT DANG morning and i need to sleep
You're supposed to sleep at a max of 8 hours a day or else you end up more exhausted than if you slept 10-12 hours. You'll be fine.

Re: it is 1 in the GOT DANG morning and i need to sleep
Can't help with acute insomnia, but here's a couple tips for maintaining a regular and healthy circadian rhythm:
Avoid caffeine after noon:
Caffeine helps people stay awake during the day, but it also makes it harder to sleep at night, and the metabolic half-life of caffeine is such that if you take coffee, tea, or soda with your lunch, you've still got at least a quarter dose of caffeine in your system come bedtime. Not to mention the fact that a caffeine high is a poor substitute for being properly rested or the vicious cycle of lack of sleep leading to caffeine abuse and caffeine abuse leading to lack of sleep.
Avoid screen time after supper:
Sunlight hitting our retinas plays a big part in regulating our circadian rhythms. The light of dawn is heavy in bluer wavelengths and triggers a wakefulness response while the light of the afternoon sun and dusk contains more yellow light, which triggers the release of melatonin, the hormone that makes us sleepy. Unfortunately, smartphones, tablets, computer monitors, etc. tend to be heavy in blue light, and using them in the evening tricks our brains into thinking it's early morning. Television is usually okay if viewed from a reasonable distance in a room lit with fixtures that give off a warmer, more yellow light, but if you can't avoid the smartphone or tablet in the evening, consider installing an app that will give your screen a rose tint to minimize its output of harmful blue light.
And here's a simple tip for improving sleep quality once you're asleep:
Sleep in the buff:
Aside from removing the possibility of sleepwear getting tangled up in a way that is uncomfortable or even constricts circulation, doing so reduces skin temperature, which has sleep benefits I don't really understand.

^ That would probably be my best tip as well. If over the counter sleeping drugs don't help you (like advil PM or whatever), hit your doctor up. Your brain may not be producing enough Melatonin. For example, I myself have had multiple nights where I laid awake in bed for anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.

You could also take the drug called Melatonin which would make your own Melatonin in your body work more effectively.
Melatonin in your body is what tells your body "Darkness=Sleep" Another thing to note, the colors blue and white, or at the very least blue will keep you awake.
This is why the dark chao theme is the best theme for this website.
I would say everything what jeff said is correct but I personally keep clothes on since I think jeff's own habits might be pushing it a little into his suggestions.

Meanwhile, I went to sleep at 4AM because I've lost control of my life.

Re: it is 1 in the GOT DANG morning and i need to sleep
In an attempt to illustrate I'm not making this stuff up, here are links to some of the articles my above post was based on:
http://www.talentsmart.com/articles/Sle ... 9-p-1.html
http://www.talentsmart.com/articles/Caf ... 1-p-1.html
http://www.talentsmart.com/articles/4-W ... 3-p-1.html
For what its worth, since blindness forced me to give up screen time and I managed to purge all of the obvious sources of caffeine from my diet(which wasn't easy, I'll admit), my sleep cycle has become far more regular than it ever was back when I was a caffeine addict who spent most of his waking hours inches from a screen of one kind or another. I used to spend most nights awake and sleep through most days unless I has something to do during the day and needed an alarm clock loud enough to wake the whole house that wouldn't shut up until I manually turned it off, and even then, it was only effective if placed somewhere I needed to get out of bed to reach it. Nowadays, going to sleep at midnight is a late night and waking up at 8 in the morning is sleeping in and I haven't needed an alarm to wake me in years.
