(Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
I'm doing a test to see if I'm right about how most people think the gen they started playing with is the best gen, whether its consciously or not.
For me, I started with Gen 3 and it is indeed my favorite Gen.

Started with Gen 1, favorite is definitely Gen 3.
Granted, I haven't played any Pokemon games from Gen 5 or 6, so I might change my mind if I get the chance to do so.

Re: (Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
I started with gen 1.
Its really hard for me to pick a favorite, so I'll just go with favorite pokemon and games.
So gen 3.
But 6 was also really really good.

I started with Gen 2. As for my favorite...I honestly have a really, REALLY hard time deciding, because most of them had details and features that I adored. I can definitely say my least favorite was Gen 4. I didn't find it that interesting.

Re: (Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
I've been around since Gen 1, but my favorite in the series is a toss-up between Platinum and SoulSilver.
That said, many of my favorites are from gen 1, I just prefer the updated versions of Gen 1 content. My favorite region is a toss up between Sinnoh and Kanto, with G4 having my favorite version of Kanto, G1 accounts for a disproportionate number of my favorite Pokemon and Gym Leaders, Blue is easily my favorite rival, and Giovanni is easily my favorite villain, but G1 had by far the worst interface and graphics(albeit quite impressive given the hardware) of the series, and while BW takes a few steps backward in inteface and has jarringly bad backsprites compared to the rest of its graphics, I can't deny they have the best mechanics of the games I've played.
Do note that I haven't played BW2 or XY.

Started on 1, Favorite is 3.
Although, the years I played them all are very close together. I must have been playing Red, Blue and Yellow in 1999/2000 you could probably fit the Pokémon Trading Card game and Pinball in there as well, Gold in 2001/2 and Sapphire in 2003/4.
When you think about it, the one you like is usually the one with the most time spent on it or the one during the peak of your childhood.

My first Pokemon game ever was Stadium, which was a Kanto game. Then when my sis bought Gale of Darkness and I was introduced to the magic of the Orre region.
Orre is my fav, though Kanto was my first region.

Re: (Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
@Retro: I might be an outlyer, but I was an adult by most standards when my favorite of the franchise came out.
For what it's worth:
G1, I played both Red and Blue, though Blue was the one I ultimately spent more time on.
G2: Got Gold for my 14th birthday and thought it blew red and blue out of the water. Only complaint I had about Gold specifically was having no way of getting G1 Starters and Legends in game and Kanto being gutted. Thought Crystal was a great refinement of Gold, though I never logged as many hours on Crystal, using it mainly to capture mons not available between Red, Blue, and Gold.
G3: Got Ruby and Sapphire at roughly the same time, though one never got more than beating the E4 and capturing exclusives to trade. Felt rather underwhelming compared to Gen 2, especially with the bulk of Old mons not being available in game and it losing things like day/night, days of the week, and battle animations for mons. Also got both FireRed and LeafGreen, played FireRed, used LeafGreen to capture exclusives and get the other G1 Starters. Also got Emerald, which was a nice improvement over RS. Was quite miffed that even with all five and dozens, if not hundreds of trades, I couldn't get a completele dex. I liked the remakes more than the new games for this gen.
G4: Got Pearl, and while it was quite the jump in quality G1>G2 ws, it wasn't nearly as underwhelming as G2>G3 transition was. Also, even with the limit of 6 per day per GBA cart, it did make transferring mons easier than any other point in the franchises histroy where transfers are possible. Platinum was easily the biggest improvement a 3rd version made over its base and SoulSilver outdid even platinum and set the bar sky high for Pokemon remakes.
G5: I've only played White, and while I like many of the new mons and the improvements to mechanics and graphics, Unova is easily the most boring region in my opinion, which prevent it from dethroning G4 as my favorite gen.

My first gen was the 3rd. My favourite gen is 3rd and 4th, because Hoenn is nostalgia while Sinnoh was just awesome.

Re: (Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
Just wondering about this, but does everyone else who favors Gen III like it because in addition to RSE and the FRLG remakes, it had Colosseum/Gale of Darkness and the original Ranger titles? That's pretty much why I liked it so much.
True, Gen IV had its own sidegames and Pokemon Battle Revolution, but I've never found anyone who liked the latter as much as the Ore games. Gen V and Gen VI didn't really do anything similar.
Also, for how many people was playing an original game a factor in liking the remake game? For my part I played Pokemon Yellow back in the day, then eventually got FireRed and loved it, before also getting Emerald and later Platinum. Since I basically got the games in 'chronological' order, it never felt like the gameplay was regressing; each title offered something new over the previous one.
On the other hand, I never played Gen II, and subsequently when I purhcased SoulSilver it seemed really disappointing. It just felt like a rehash of Platinum minus most of the Gen III and IV Pokemon.
I think players who loved HGSS, and thus Gen IV as a whole, were those who had already played GSC, like how I loved FRLG because I played Yellow. What do you guys who played RSE and ORAS think?
Granted, another reason why Gen IV didn't impress me is because I have never once been able to use Wi-Fi, and thus recent games are no actual improvement over Gen I or III's linked battle/trade limitations for me. I can still only trade Pokemon with myself.

Re: (Test) Gen you started with / Gen you think is the best
When talking about gen 3 I'm talking about RSE, not the remakes and side-games around it.
It's also ridiculous how people treat ORAS as gen 3 remakes, but every other remake is spoken of as in the generation when it was made.
