For those unfamiliar, there was a group of streams titled Twitch Plays Pokémon, where viewers could type in commands and the game would respond appropriately. With thousands of viewers participating, along with lag, it made progressing in the game quite challenging. However, after many hours, the internet banded together and successfully defeated the Elite Four multiple times, version after version of games in the Pokémon franchise.

Fish Plays Pokémon is a take on this, where instead of the chat typing commands, a fish activates button prompts depending on where he swims in his bowl. You can view it here. So far Grayson Hopper has gotten a charmander named AAAABBK, and defeated his opponent's squirtle.

Despite being in its early stages, there are currently close to six-hundred thousand total views of this stream. What are your thoughts on this project? Do you feel Grayson, a fish, will successfully beat a Pokémon game? I think it's possible, especially as the stream refines its methods on ensuring both randomness and control for how Grayson plays.

I only watched the first Twitch Plays stream. After that I ended up forgetting about it, until now.

I think the fish will succeed, provided he does not die (which is a serious threat, given fish's poor longevity.) Also, the owner of the fish could most definitely influence the game depending on where he places the food, since he will most definitely have to feed the playing fish.

The fish (if its lifespan is a good while) will succeed, in much the same way a monkey typing randomly forever will type all of William Shakespeare's works, eventually. In fact, beating Pokemon is probably easier than typing Shakespeare's works.

People keep thinking the fish dies when instead it went to sleep. Who knows know when it will actually die and we just think it's sleeping :c

Yeah, this was better when it was just the randomness of the Red run without the democracy and anarchy crap.

Still, I would've left it for a year or so, they sped through the other games wayyy to quick.
