New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
I've recently started playing Yellow over again, just for nostalgia. I'm trying to use pokemon I barely use from Gen 1. The starters and legendaries will not be used. (Pikachu is the only starter in my team)
I'm at Vermilion and need advice for Surge. My ground type will be cubone (Lavender Town) as I've over used the diglett line, and I do have both Nidoran for poison types.
team:
Pikapika- Pikachu lv 18
Chuck- Mankey lv 18
Audrey2- Bellsprout lv 19
Nido- Nidorino lv 18
Nida- Nidorina lv 19
NOTE: when my team reaches lv 30-35 the strongest Nido will be staying while the other will be boxed as they are basically twins on typing, moveset, and stats.

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
Well, Surge only has the one Pokemon- his Raichu- which your team should be able to handle. You could try to get Raichu poisoned with the Nidos then send in your Pikachu and Bellsprout to wittle at its HP until it goes down. Or you could just level grind to get them up to Raichu's lvl. 24, if you're not in a hurry.

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
hey, sorry for the lack of updates
my gameboy broke and is now currently at a used game store for (I hope!) repairs. I've been busy, stuck working till it gets dark..and my other gameboys aren't backlit so I can't see it in my poorly lit room.
Update on my team
* I beat Lt. Surge with a very valiant battle, ending similar to the episode from the anime, where my whole team was beaten, except PikaPika. PikaPika won in the end thanks to her (I consider my pikachu female) Quick Attack- Speed over Power.
* HM Flash has been obtained, lucky. I hate Rock Tunnel.
Team
PikaPika-Pikachu
Nida- Nidorina
Chuck- Mankey
AudreyTwo- Weepingbell
Socky- Vulpix
NiGHTS- Hypno
NiGHTS was obtained during my grinding session, evolving shortly after beating Surge. Nido was dropped as I've realized I've overused Nidoking in Pokemon Red, and replaced with Socky. I do use Ninetales alot, however never in the main game.
Ivo, Raichu is not 24, it is 28. It pummeled me when I was 25.
My team is 25-26.

So how did your playthrough work out? Any other notable incidents?

It's been a few months, but I'm back!ShadriaFan wrote:..I completely forgot about this >n<''

Honestly I forgot about this, but looking at Pokemon Sun and Moon stuff has kinda reminded me.
But now, instead of looking up SuMo spoilers I'm going to play Yellow through.
Right now as I type, I'm struggling against Erika and her lv 30 Tangela.
Socky, PikaPika, and Chuck are down, I'm ebbing it down with Nida's Poison Sting. Yes, Poison takes the beast down, and she also used her super potion! But now it looks like the end with Weepinbell paralyzing Nida. Nida's down and now it's up to AudreyII! Maybe he can defeat and devour? Alas, today is not one of feasting.. Now it is left to NiGHTS. Can her psi attacks defeat the leader? Weepinbell is down, and now it's one on one. NiGHTS versus Gloom! AND IN ONE HIT, GLOOM GOES DOWN! NiGHTS SAVES THE DAY ONCE MORE!! :O NiGHTS has leveled up to lv 30!
I'm very under leveled, my lowest being lv 22, and my highest 30.
I'm also ..I think I'm getting some audio glitching too? Some parts of the song sound lower in pitch, and during a razor leaf, I heard part of weepinbell's cry..?

NiGHTS should help you survive Koga and perhaps Sabrina, but what are you going to do when you reach Blaine?

Naturally I'm going to hunt a water type. (I need a surfing partner!)Ivogoji wrote:Cool :V

Usually I do the Squirtle line, Seel line, Lapras, Psyduck line, Goldeen line, both the fossil pokemon, Gyrados, Vaporeon or Tentacool line.
Thus, my water types are down to: Poliwag line, Slowpoke line, Shellder line, Krabby line, Horsea line, and the Staryu line.

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
For a surfing Pokemon, use Nidoqueen. I did that with my Nidoking. You'd have to evolve your Nidorina, but I'd say it works well enough.
Otherwise I'd go with Slowpoke (or Kangaskhan if you feel like standing in the Safari Zone for hours).

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
Sorry for the pause in posts. I've been busy and haven't been feeling it. However I'm back now.
Self imposed rules:
1. Use pokemon I haven't used before, see how awesome others are!
2. Pokemon that evolve via stones will not be evolved until reaching the Elite Four, cause you know- when pokemon evolve via stone (sans Eevee, but I'm not using one this run), they stop learning moves.
3. Avoid buying anything except Pokeballs (in groups of 5, only buying more when out), to save up money for revives and such at the E4.
Rule number 1 cuts the available pokemon in half, limiting my team. It's a struggle for me to remember which characters I haven't used/used often.
Rule number 2 prevents me from quickly evolving my team, something I tend to do (and instantly regret)- but it also keeps me from using Nidoqueen as a Surfer.
Rule number 3 is a rule I just implemented, thus I did break it in the beginning (I have some escape ropes, potions, ect among my 15 pokeballs and great ball.) but I'm going to stick to it now. Items on the overworld/gift items and the Pokemon Center do not count and are free to use.
I also am redesigning my headcannon versions of the team, and here we have PikaPika, my unevolve-able starter.
Growing from a simple pikachu with headphones, she's now a punk 80's-styled rodent with a taste in rock n roll.

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
I just realized that slowpoke is found only by surfing. Can't surf without a surfing partner, thus slowbro's out.ShadriaFan wrote: Thus, my water types are down to: Poliwag line, Slowpoke line, Shellder line, Krabby line, Horsea line, and the Staryu line.
Luckily Poliwag is nearby, in Fushia.
I spent some time in Lavender Town, trying to find Cubone to no avail, and continued down to Route 12. I attempted to catch Snorlax, but gave up and defeated it after it wouldn't stop using Rest and dodging my pokeballs. Then I got my butt handed to me by a lass near the end of the route. :p
I may replace Socky the Vulpix with the Poliwag as he (changed headcanon gender) is slow leveling up and has sub-par moves.
Socky is lv 24 while the rest is lv 27-30, and he only has Ember and Quick Attack as attacking moves. Vulpix learn Flamethrower at lv 35, which is a long way from here.

Re: New Pokemon Yellow Play-through
I went on, arriving to Fushia City after a few attempts to pass the trainers. With the Super Rod, I found and caught a Horsea, who is now my surfing mon, replacing Socky. (In headcannon, Socky left to be pampered by my dad. :p)
In Fushia, I spent a lot of time in the Safari Zone, looking for items and getting the Teeth/Surf. Once that was done, I went back for Saffaron and headed on for the Sliph Co building. That is where I'm currently at, I get sooo lost in that building!
Items found:
*Good Rod
*Super Rod
*Max Revive
*Max Potion
*Full Restore
*Several vitamins
*Several TMs
*HM 3,4, and 2!
Notiable Events:
*Gave the Teeth to the Warden
*Find the Secret House
*NiGHTS hit lv 31
*Chuck evolved into Primape!
New Pokemon!:
Horsea- "Epona"
Dratini- "Buddy Jr."
CHANSEY- "Iballlucky" (1 ball, lucky! seriously, first time I saw chansey, I threw a ball and it just instantly caught!)
Rhyhorn- "Rocky"
Exegcute- "Kikwis"
Tarous- "Minos"
Spearow- "Groose" (flyer)
On a sadder note, my GBA has broken even more, and I will be postponing the playthrough till I either get it fixed or replaced. Luckily I'm going to have it looked at tomorow, but you don't know how long it'll take.. :c
Chuck has grown into a mighty Primape, with a new shiny badge to show his authority! Wild mustache too..

Yup. First Chansey I saw, I just threw it, expecting it to break free and run..but nope, it just instantly caught! Tarous took 2 encounters, and despite 5 Kangashan showing up..I don't have one yet. :pIvogoji wrote:One ball!?
