Apparently, Pokemon's 20th Anniversary is happening next year and The Pokemon Company is planning something big that's not Pokken Tournament.
The only thing they've given us about it is the word "Flowers".
What could it be?
My money's on a Stadium/Battle Revolution game. Because technically they could put any Flower related Pokemon on it.
And besides, HD Hyper Beam. Think about it.

Maybe the seventh gen will be launched by Rose and Violet versions or maybe there planning Diamond and Pearl remakes that give Shaymin a bigger role in the story.

Re: Pokemon's 20th Anniversary?
Maybe there will be a hint in Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. The weird green blob Pokemon is set to cameo in the next Mega Evolution Special, that probably has something to do with the 20th anniversary event.
Theory I've heard being discussed: The blobs are Zygarde, like Zygarde broke down into smaller Pokemon, and gathering the blobs allows Zygarde to reform in an even stronger state.

Normally, I would say that means Pokemon Z.
But, Pokemon Z was kinda expected from day one.
So...
Pokemon Z for Wii U/Nintendo NX?

Re: Pokemon's 20th Anniversary?
Also relevant: Team Flare has been absent from the Pokemon anime with the exception of Lysandre, who himself is not actively doing anything evil or being opposed by the heroes. None of the Admins or other Team Flare related characters have shown up. Some think this is an indication that the next Pokemon game to come out will be Version Z/X2&Y2 or something similar, the logic being that the next game will feature the come back of Team Flare to Kalos and that the anime is holding off on introducing the organization until after the sequel game is released. This was more or less the case with Team Galactic and Team Plasma, who didn't become prominent in the anime until after the release of Platinum and Black2/White2 respectively. As many point out, despite Ash already having six Gym Badges, the Kalos arc does not appear to be even a third of the way over; a whole load of foreshadowed stuff hasn't happened yet (like the conclusion of the Mega Evolution Special arc), and it's reasonable that the series will remain in Kalos longer if the next game doesn't introduce a new region. If that does happen, Kalos will be the region with the greatest number of episodes so far; which would be nice, since Unova was the region with the fewest episodes.

Given the fact we haven't had any rule changes for VGC, plus everything you stated, I think that means we're definitely going to stay a while.

Well, seeing as Zygarde's new formes have been announced and it kind of balances the ecosystem, maybe flowers could be a part of that? Like nature/beauty is crumbling and you have to stop it? idk
Also let's not forget AZ's Floette, but that would kind of be a huge letdown if that all that "flowers" meant ; ^;

Re: Pokemon's 20th Anniversary?
But how could Zygarde balance it?
Xerneas makes the flowers, and Yveltal kills them and decomposes them. Then Xerneas uses the compost to make more flowers.
The Circle of Life seems complete to me. Unless Yveltal doesn't decompose them, and Zygarde does, but I think the other 700 Pokemon can just do that themselves.
In case one dies, (I don't think the literal embodiment of Life can die. And if Death somehow dies, that makes even less sense. Or maybe more? Suicide???) I don't think something can take that
job. Nothing ever dies in Pokemon anyways.
Maybe Zygarde is like the reason Pokemon can Mega Evolve/Evolve in the first place. I mean, a baby is alive, but what if it couldn't grow up into an adult?
It's also getting a place in the Mega Evolution Special.
I'd be simultaneously unsurprised and disappointed if the answer was Floette though.
But still, Pokemon Z was extremely predictable, so I don't think that's the answer.
