Just because the code for the room is there doesn't mean the room is accessible.

Re: The Playground
I wonder if we can make it accessible (on PC,naturally) and use it for an additional garden.
Since we can make a dry lagoon chao garden,i guess we can...

Would be cool, especially since I put Sonic DX for PC on my wish list!

This is from Sonic Adventure 2.
But if it has enough coding and collision and stuff it could work...

Does this work on SA2B? Never heard of it before. Also, what is this dry lagoon garden you're speaking of?

Re: The Playground
Guys. Please understand what is going on.
The Playground is a part of the game that is not rendered. It was under-construction but never implemented. Take a look at Fusion's topic about it:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=28844
There are many things that were not fully implemented when the game was released, ever since the original release on Dreamcast. The Playground was among these features and while the textures are still present in the game data and there is data for how the Playground was supposed to look, there is nothing coded in the game to make the room generate. It is an incomplete feature.
The picture you are looking at was someone who took the existing content from the game, and put in the missing pieces. This cannot be done in the game. The Playground isn't some secret room that can only be access through hacking. It is an incomplete room that you cannot access because it doesn't exist. All that exists is blueprints.
You can't get into this room. That really is that.

Sometimes I wish I could just time travel, smack some sense into SEGA so they don't quit when the entire chao experience is only halfway done, and come back. You know what I mean?

Re: The Playground
It was probably cancelled because not every household has Internet.
There was originally an awful lot of Internet-related stuff in SA2, alot of it pertaining to Chao.

Re: The Playground
Yeah, but still... A lot of xBox and Wii games, even some DS games like mario kart or Pokemon, have optional wi-fi access but you don't have to have it to play the game. Oh well, I suppose SA2 was a game ahead of its time...

Re: The Playground
I remarked something about SEGA,they was always ahead of its time. The sega saturn (Planeptune in HDN MKII?) was a double core console, way more "futuristic" for the time. But the coder didn't know how to code with two core.I think it was the fact that they innoved that almost destroyed SEGA.Maybe its because of that that 3/4 of video game nowadays aren't innovative and company stay in their safe zone...

Working on it.SonicRainboom wrote:Sometimes I wish I could just time travel, smack some sense into SEGA so they don't quit when the entire chao experience is only halfway done, and come back. You know what I mean?
Actually based on what Fusion has found, the lifespan of the Dreamcast, and video game release dates, the features were likely left out because there wasn't enough time to complete them. Chao were a minor portion of the game, so the features left out were cut because they could be. It also didn't help that intentionally the Dreamcast wasn't holding on too well, and SA2 was released toward the end of it's lifespan overseas. The Dreamcast did have a lot of internet use, being a wonderful precursor to modern gaming, so the lack-there-of internet use wouldn't be a concern. The Shadic Chao wrote:It was probably cancelled because not every household has Internet.

People seem to forget what an incredible leap the Dreamcast was. And if more people were rational and understood you could make freeware games for the Dreamcast rather than obsess over a gaming console that was also a DVD player, we'd have seen a better lifespan for it.

Re: The Playground
This is the reason why they must remake SA2B or SADX. We need this! It feels like Sega just neglects everything, even on Phantasy star portable 2 they don't care about the like 4 mil hackers/modders. We must make a petition.

Re: The Playground
^All they did was make half-assed ports to PSN, Steam, and XBLA. The Gamecube ports at least featured some new things even if most of the Dreamcast DLC was forgotten about, but the digital versions have some significant shortcomings in translation.
That said, even if they did proper remakes of the Adventure Duology, my expectations would be for Chao to be shafted in the process.

Re: The Playground
It could have been a nice mini-game style area, like a level to leave Chao where they can play to increase their happiness. It's a bit of a shame it never came to be.

I've never seen a picture of it before. :D
If the code is in the game, it may be possible to get to it using a lot of cheats and hacks.
You know what? I gotta look into this more. I find this to be a very interesting subject.

It helps to read the rest of the topic, because whatever research, cheats and hacks you're gonna invest time into finding will go to waste. You can't get into the room, it's incomplete.

Yes, I'm sure you'd find videos on YouTube about it if it was possible to access the room. Darn.
Slightly off topic, but whatever happened with the whole library concept in Chao Kindergarten?
