Happy day- finally playing SA2 on mobile

Post by ChrisOfChaos »

So after thinking about it for a while I finally decided to try using an emulator on my Android phone. I found one for the Dreamcast, installed it, and can now play SA2 on my phone! This is just great. Why SEGA never tried to port the game to Android or at least to the 3DS is beyond me. I've always wanted my own pocket Chao Garden and now I've got one.

Anyway for anyone else who wants to do it it's not that hard, just get the Reicast app from Googly Play and follow instructions on the YouTube video linked below. You can find a rom of SA1 and SA2 at emuparadise.me. You can actually get roms from a lot of websites, but emuparadise is the safest one by far.

Instructions:

Just be sure to read the Googly Play description so you don't have any trouble saving files or booting up the game(s). Not trying to spam or anything I'm just really happy to have a mobile Chao Garden. I haven't actually hatched any Chao in it yet but once I do I'll let you all know if there are any glitches to be aware of.

Honestly I don't think I'll ever get tired of going around SEGA to find new ways to enjoy Chao Garden.

How well does it handle on your phone? Also, what kind of phone are you using :0

So far it runs just as well as it does on my PC. I have a Samsung S7 (aka the exploding battery phone). One thing that surprises me is that it doesn't take up any more battery use than a normal app would.

Meanwhile, my tablet keeps crashing attempting to load its own UI.

As far as I was concerned it was only good for playing emulated games that I felt would be better as handheld games. So I never finished playing through the GBC version of Dragon Quest 1.
I don't know why it never occurred to me you could play Dreamcast games while my tablet still worked.

I doubt that the 3DS would have been able to emulate Sonic Adventure 2 smoothly and the effective resolution of the 3DS's screen is lower than what the GameCube and the Dreamcast could output. I'm also not sure how much Reicast sacrifices in terms of accuracy in order to run quickly on mobile phones. Porting games to other systems is more complicated than it would initially seem.

Could it be your memory? I'd check the amount of available hard drive space recommended to keep open on tablets. I used to have an Acer that crashed all the time because there was too much stuff on it...also it was an Acer.

Damn. Just realised SA2 doesn't have the Black Market. Looks like I'll have to settle for regular colored Chao for the mobile version. Not a terrible compromise though. I also got SA1 on my Android as well, so I can have some fun with breeds there.

I'm curious, as I've never used an android emulator before, how do the controls work?

The buttons are overlayed onto the screen like a handheld device. Controls are pretty good.
