Bright chao, while cool, look like they were unintended. Seriously, no bodily shading is very very odd. Also shiny two-tones look very pretty in a much more normal way, so I think I would agree with you.

I think the idea of having ways to slow or speed up gradual evolution is good.
Tying it to gardens, in a very arbitrary way, is less good.

The fruit idea definitely seems preferable.

I have definitely never seen this before. What I find weird is that the fruit don't look glitchy, they are colored fairly well still. They just look like they went bad.
