Sonic 2 Final Boss

Post by fieryQuantum »

Does anyone remember this terribly hard boss? I mean, Metal Sonic was stupidly hard enough as it is. But then, Robotnik comes out with this giant robot from friggin' nowhere!

I've never beaten this boss before...

HOW DO YOU DO IT!?!?!?

Actually, I do not remember the Eggsterminator being that hard considering the lack of rings. Actually, S2 Death Egg Zone in general is a walk in the park after Wing Fortress.

Anyways, if I remember correctly, the basic stredegy against the Eggsterminator is to dodge its attacks, wait until it couches down and hit it in the head.

You can hit the backside as well because it's in the same hit-box, as Crash said.

Well, I'm not exactly good, persay, at Sonic bosses. I'm good at Touhou and Mario bosses and other games like that, just not these ones. 'Specially the Extra Stage in Touhou 6. Compared to the Final Boss in Heroes(my fav PS2 game ever) Flandre Scarlet's a cake walk!

^To my knowledge, Silver Sonic is just the common fan-name given to that particular Sonic robot with its official name being Mecha Sonic(and the robot from Sky Sanctuary being Mecha Sonic mk II).

And honestly, the only difficult part about S2 Death Egg is the lack of rings, and I still say getting there legitimately is harder than beating it(I have only ever gotten to Death Egg via Stage select due to the crazy platforming near the end of Wing Fortress).

I found Wing Fortress exceptionally easy, actually. My past experiences with other platformers(ex. Mario 2 jp version) just reduced the Wing Fortress difficulty dramatically for me.

Most sources refer to it as the Death Egg Robot. When I search for Eggsterminator, all I get is a Sonic X robot:

In Japan these robots have always been referred to as Mecha Sonic models. The English manual for Sonic 2 named that particular Mecha Sonic, Silver Sonic. It isn't a fan name, but a localization-invented name.

^Another artifact of there being two different continuities for SoJ and SoA/E SegaSonic Prior to Adventure: Its easy to mix-up what is merely localization and what is Fan-made. Probably does not help that, prior to Sonic Adventure, it was very rare for any of the Bosses to have names in-game(just off hand, I cannot think of a single Boss pre-Adventure with a name stated in-game, but with there being at least 2 dozen games pre-adventure, some of them not well known, I could be mistaken).

No, none of the Genesis games had the boss names in game. Sonic Xtreme WOULD have been the first, but we all know what happened there.

^If you mean in regards to Xtreme, the short version is that it was a SoA project, SoJ refused to help, it came down to a one man team working himself sick, and was cancelled.

Also, there is more to Sonic pre-Adventure than the Genesis games. Sonic also had multiple games for the Gamegear, Master System(granted, lots of overlap between MS and GG since the GG was basically a portable MS with higher color depth), Pico, Arcade, Saturn(even if the Saturn never got a proper flagship Sonic Title). Plus Sonic CD for the Sega CD and Knuckles Chaotix for the 32X. I couldn't name all of Sonic's games pre-Adventure, so I cannot claim to know enough about them to say confidently whether they all lack in-game names for things. I am confident that the Genesis Trilogy lack such labels for the Bosses though.

Well, even if, their bosses didn't have names either.

And the real Xtreme story:

Sonic Team planned to release the first legitimate Sonic game on the Saturn. It would feature spherical rotating camera physics, based off Sonic 3's Emerald stages. There was a setback, and they realized they wouldn't reach the Christmas deadline, so, they tossed it. A tech demo is owned by an unnamed man, the demo being worth $14,000. There are also a few Youtube videos with beta gameplay of the game.

Yeah, odds are he copied it and illegally leaked it. There shouldn't be more than one tech demo for Xtreme.

But yeah, we shouldn't talk about it, the FBI's monitering my PC due to my bro illegally downloading Halo 2.

Little ****er...

Silver Sonic was a little difficult, (not really),and Death Egg Robot was a little more difficult.
Considering you don't get to have many Rings and the Two Bosses battles happen in the same Act,makes it exceptionally hard.

I can only beat this boss with Tails, no idea why. The Silver Sonic boss was easy when I figured out that if you spindash in the corners he can't really hurt you.
