I love the show, watch it regularly, and catch every new episode live. However, I'm a little resentful towards the fanbase, and I've grown to despise the 'brony' label.

Can I just say I'm not a brony and I prefer the old series to the new series?

I don't see anything interesting or "funny" about the new series. The old series is more of a childhood thing, I don't dislike it but I don't like it either. I just prefer it to the new series.

I haven't seen the show.
And I don't want to, pretty much entirely because of the fanbase.
It's possible to like something or be a fan of something without making it define you as a person.
Idk people can like whatever they want and I really don't care what you choose to obsess over. Personally I just find that behavior to be a little gross. And it isn't just bronies. Pretty much every ~fandom~ is terrible in my opinion.

basically poseidon with the caveat of fans of things aren't terrible in general, it's who presents the fandoms that ruins it.
like, if you like MLP, ok, but calling yourself a brony or pegasister is kinda gross.

^the first part of that is a little confusing, but if i understand correctly:
yeah that's sort of what i was driving at with the "you can like something without making it define you as a person" thing.
cos i mean,
i really like a lot of things, and even consider myself a fan of things, but i don't give myself a name or want to be part of any distinctive ~fandom~
and stuff.

i write confusingly because i'm a pretentious asswipe, sorry. i don't understand half the words i use, so...

but yeah, i just meant that fandoms aren't bad in theory, and a lot of the time they aren't terrible or anything, it's just those fans who really advertise themselves as such that ruin the fandoms reputation.
but i definitely don't be disagree with what you be sayin' yo

I've honestly been waiting for this discussion to arise, and in a good way.

Seriously, It's begun to irritate me how the fanbase thinks they're so special and different, and take so much pride over it to the point of labeling themselves such a corny name. Yeah, you're a fan of a show, big woop! Other people are fans of franchises too, and you don't see them parading, and rubbing it in people's faces (compared to the MLP fanbase, anyway). Just because you're watching something that isn't your targeted demographic doesn't mean you should take an utmost pride of it more so than any other fans of other franchises would, regardless of how good the show is. In some cases, it doesn't even make you open minded. It can also just make you a blind band-wagoner. I bet more than half of the fans got into it just because all of their other peers did, or because they were bugged into watching it.
The majority probably had the same negative first impression of the show. Another thing is how the fanbase as a whole complain how people treat fans, or look at the fanbase poorly, when they themselves go about this ridiculous pride.

I like MLP: FiM a lot and own a lot of MLP merchandise

I just don't see myself as a brony because a lot of the fanbase can be a bit....embarrassing.

I think MLP: FiM is pretty good, and I enjoy watching it now and then, though I'm not necessarily a 'brony' or 'pegasister'. It's a cute little show and I like it.

I'm sorry, but I'd like it if someone who was apart of the fanbase not too long ago not lump current bronies in with the bad part of the fandom. Every single freaking fandom has terrible people, it's no use trying to accentuate the negative of any fanbase because of it.

After being in a brony community for awhile(I didn't actually consider myself a brony, I liked the show, but I wasn't crazy about it like they were), I can safely say some bronies who identify themselves as such -can- be.. quite unbearable, but I won't say how, and I won't say all are unbearable. I did meet some very nice people there who consider themselves bronies, and they are still my friends even now since I left the community. Not all bronies are one person, and I don't think it's very nice to think of them all badly just because of a couple bad apples. I'm not a brony myself, but I don't think they are all bad.
