Re: Death Threats
when did this even MENTION annoying 10 CoD idiots??
Crash please...PLEASE CAREFULLY READ ALL THE POSTS.
THIS IS ON HOW COMMON IT IS TO SEE DEATH THREATS ONLINE, NOT 10 YEAR OLDS ON CoD BEING SORE LOSERS.
Death Threats are serious, no matter if the person was 'joking'. Some people are not stable enough to take multiple 'JUST GO DIE', 'I'M GONNA FREAKING KILL YOU', 'WHY DON"T YOU KILL YOURSELF YOU STUPID IDIOT?' in various places. Its utterly SICK and SADDENING how often I see it on Youtube, in MY OWN LOCAL AREA, and other social networking sites. I, MYSELF, fight CHRONIC DEPRESSION and if I saw someone saying that to myself at the darkest moment; HECK I WOULD FREAKING FOLLOW IT IF IT WAS EVERYWHERE. Threats like this give the person a unnerving fear and feeling of lost hope if used in the manner we're talking about.
Luckily I've never had death threats as of late; I wish it to stay that way too.
oh and also, before you go "There was nothing online", Crash..there is a panel in the comic showing her seeing horrible comments on what appears to be FaceBook/Youtube/Tumblr/Twitter. Crap like that happens everywhere, and some people just can't handle it.

Re: Death Threats
well
I mean
There is something to be said for not taking these threats to heart. I'm not blaming the people who do believe what others say about them; but their is something to be said for confidence in yourself.

Re: Death Threats
it is unacceptable either way for people to use death threats in such a casual manner, since it can more or less normalize it, which isn't a very good thing. especially when they aren't aware of the damage it can really cause

Re: Death Threats
Just two - in the form of chain letters. One said I had to send it to 15 people within 15 minutes or.. I die in 15 days. The other said to send it to 5 people or die in the night - which happened to be sent by my own sister! I still find it hard to believe that my own sister would try to kill me while I was sleeping!!

Re: Death Threats
If, in ANY circumstances, someone does take threats seriously that are given to them and you tell them they should just stop being so sensitive, you are victim blaming. Death threats shouldn't be tossed around, no matter what.
I've never personally ever been given, nor have I given out death threats.

Re: Death Threats
In all honesty, I've been threatened quite a few times on and offline, albeit the ones offline were either in jest or of violence but never death. The former I find amusing; the latter not so much.
Have I sent any death threats? Nah. I've sent a few checks, and they've yet to be cashed.

Re: Death Threats
I never said they weren't bad
But there is more to say and talk about then "They're bad". We want to also talk about why they do it, how it could effect victims, and why it's a trend.
Imo people want to sound all tough, so they do it from where they have no fear of consequenes. I know there could be but how many actually get punished. Obviously not many if it's a trend where a bunch of people doing it.

Re: Death Threats
Well yeah of course they are bad!
But if everyone knows they are bad, why do people do it?
A lot of us on here have received death threats and the like, theres a chance some of us have sent them too right? Maybe someone who has will share why they would have ever done that.
Its a topic that can really be fleshed out if we think about it.

^ Not for the most part, but if someone is already unstable it is.
And 10 year olds on CoD isn't really the focus of this topic.

Re: Death Threats
In general, the vast majority of death threats, be they online or in person, via social media or via online multiplayer, are harmless unless the target already has suicidal tendencies, a victim complex, or some other mental issue that causes them to take take the ramblings of a complete stranger too seriously. Not saying that all death threats should be ignored, just that it should be noted that most are empty and its is rare that someone would actually follow through on such a threat. This an issue that likely comes out of some very deep psychological and sociological threads, and humanity needs to develop an understanding of these threads to best resolve the issues that arise from them.
Yes, its easy enough to say that "Death threats are bad", but such a simple answer is practically useless. How do we answer the more important questions regarding this issue such as:
-Why do some have a very strong, perhaps needlessly so, reaction to recieving such threats?
-How do we most effectively help those with a strong reaction to cope and move past such threats?
-Why do the people who make such threats do so?
-How do we most effectively teach the people who make such threats that they should not make such threats?
-How do we effectively distinguish between those who made empty threats from those with the potential to act upon such threats?
-How do we most effectively prevent those who make serious threats from crossing that line that no one should ever cross?
These are not easy questions to think about, much less to actually answer, and the answers are unlikely to be simple or universal. Its easy to punish someone for misdeeds after the fact, but its is a greater accomplishment to prevent misdeeds before they even occur.
