So EA is having its very own Error 37.

So just a few days ago, EA released the long anticipated Sim City (5). The problem is, almost nobody can play it because the game requires you to login to a server, and they're all broken. Not only that, but saves are server dependent too, and if you disconnect due to said faulty servers, you could lose minutes to hours of gameplay if you even manage to get on. Because of this, the game has been receiving some pretty negative feedback to both EA and the game itself, and I can't say I disagree. This really is kind of sad.
Just look at the rating, and reviews this game has gotten. Almost all of them are 1 star.

Guess I'll be digging out SimCity 3000 until this is sorted out, if it is. EA isn't hurting for money, so a slow or no response would not surprise me. Although their franchises compose a good portion of my games, I shake my head at their lack of foresight, or the willingness to perpetuate it. But I have to wonder if complaints against them conflict with actual sales, because if customer loss was rampant, resisting consumer complaints would be economically damaging, and it would show.

Until I'm given the ability to play without Origin and without the need to play on a server, I'm not buying the game, regardless how good the game may be... And beautiful... And... New... And... Shiny... No! Snap out of it!

But seriously guys, I'd really recommend anybody to refrain from buying this game until not only the servers are fixed, but also to get rid of all this BS DRM of needing to login to a server to play SINGLEPLAYER.

I'll probably wait until the servers are fixed, but I can deal with DRM. I find it an unethical business practice, but I don't foresee it going away anytime soon because larger publishers have less to lose from consumer boycotts. Even without DRM I would still be paying full price for a game I'll only be playing occasionally, and there are a myriad of other things that could stop me from playing effectively--poor servers are only one more thing, and it's really no worse than the federal strings and stipulations tied to my social security income.

This is exactly the same as their 'The Simpsons: Tapped Out' game on iOS. Which is basically sim city with the Simpsons.
I lost hours of gameplay on that due to EA. They had to take it off the app store until it was fixed. I haven't played it since.

Also they ruined Real Racing 3, you now have to PAY TO DRIVE. MICROTRANSACTIONS. TO DRIVE. TO PLAY THE GAME. Otherwise you have to wait up to half an hour.

I have never liked EA, I can't remember any good games from them, and they've ruined games with their online features and microtransactions.

EA has gotten so bad I'm not sure to hate them or feel sorry for them. I've been avoiding their games for a while.

I honestly cannot think of a single game made by EA or one of the developers they have cannibalized that has caught my interest. That said, the deeper problem here is that those who speak out against such ridiculous restrictions are often a vocal minority, and either the afflicted game will sell like hotcakes anyway or EA will assume that the game itself is the problem rather than their unfair business practices. In an ideal world, such mistreatment of customers would be illegal, but sadly, we live in a world dominated by pro-business governments thar are often also explicitly anti-consumer.
