IGAvania - Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Post by Flame »

So old Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi is getting together with some of his "old friends" to produce a Castlevania-like game called "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night".

If you've heard of http://www.swordorwhip.com then you've heard of it, because this is that. It currently has just a kickstarter and trailer up (Here) but it looks like something definitely worth following.

Not much has been released so far, but what do you think? I seriously miss old Metroidvania Castlevania, and I would drool over this if it were even half as good as they were.

It's all but confirmed to be Metroidvania, by the way - it states to be "exploration-based", which has the potential to be really exciting.

It'll be on the PS4, the Xbox One, and PC.

Thoughts?

Yet another reason on my list of reasons to get a PS4 as soon as I can afford one.

And another in the long list of reasons I wish I could see well enough to take advantage of the Vita's ability to stream from a PS4. Granted, Symphony of the Night is the only Metroidvania I've played(and I've only played the PSP port included in Dracula X Chronicles), but still, I think I would enjoy having a new Metroidvania to play on a Sony handheld.

This game looks like it could actually be great, and I'm a huge Castlevania fan so I really hope it is. Though I am a megaman fan so I've lost some confidence in kickstarter after seeing how abysmally boring Mighty No.9 gameplay has begun to look.

For what it's worth, the guy behind this project was actually assistant director for Symphony of the Night while the guy behind Mighty No 9 was just producer from almost day one on Megaman. In other words, this project is being lead by someone with more direct hands-on experience making games while Mighty No 9 was lead by a franchise figurehead who people gave to much credit.

On top of that, while I don't know what exactly it curtails, Igarashi is supposed to have been a much more hands-on producer than most. Take this with a grain of salt though, because I only heard it from word of mouth and I have no source.

So yeah, it broke $2,000,000, and is going to have a Classic Mode if it gets to $2,500,000, which basically means a Classicvania-style mode as well.

Still looking good!

Well, they've released some gameplay, though keep in mind this has two years left so expect it to change quite a bit.

Gonna update the first post to include everything. I'm pretty hyped, and I haven't felt this hyped for a game in a good, long time!

I'm not impressed by how slow Miriam is after recently replaying Symphony of the Night - I hope she gets some sort of backdash at least to speed things up.

Other than that I'm super hyped about this.

I'm really surprised they ended up raising 5.5 million dollars. I'm glad, but surprised.

As for the speed of Miriam, I'd guess it's probably something that'll be ironed out eventually. They have two years, after all.

Well, she got a backdash.

In other news, the E3 demo was released to backers lately - I played it, and I had a looot of fun with it. The monsters are fairly unique, the artstyle is really pretty, and the gameplay is tight and solid. Definitely feels like I would expect a proper Castlevania-style game to feel.

It's looking better and better as time goes on.

Can I join this hype train, I've only beaten Castlevania (NES) recently but the fact that this seems to be a genuinely progressing project with a cute female protagonist is a big plus.

i've played the majority of castlevania games, and i have high hopes for this game after what i've seen, and i'll be playing a character almost adorable as me

but seriously, it is looking really solid and i'm definitely anticipating release.
