Nintendo Direct 11.12.2015

Post by chaoadventures »

Did you guys watch it? No? Go do that.
Or not. I'm not really forcing you. YESIAMGOWATCHITRIGHTNOWORILLNEVERGIVEYOUANYCOOKIESAGAIN

What I learned remembered:
Spoiler:
I need Splatoon. Last month, it was "really want". Now it's need. NEED.

Super Mario Maker is getting/has gotten (I don't remember.) Checkpoints!
Additionally, (From what I can tell) you can make Super Mushroom blocks that turn into Fire Flowers when you're all ready super.
Those were both on my list of things Mario Maker needed! And the reason I didn't just use Lunar Magic.

Fire Emblem Fates is now a Pokemon game, there's two versions. I assume the plot's path and the maps are different enough for the separation.

Speaking of Pokemon, the originals are being re-released on the 3DS! Without color. What. Joy.
I mean, after playing Pokemon Blue in color, it really changed my outlook on the games. It's just so great seeing everything in nothing but cerulean.
And with color changing health bars. And mono-color Pokemon. And brown Missingno. And if it's anything like the VC version of Metroid II, I can't use the power
of the GBC to give it color anyways by pressing A/B and a direction on the D-pad on start-up. At least you can trade. But not with myself. Probably. Yay.

Next on "stuff I found sorta important", Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 is coming to Smash? Um. Okay. Anything can happen if you let it?
I haven't played that game, so I don't quite understand the "greatness". I'm also not far enough into Kingdom Hearts 2, to know what he does, if anything.
Sorry guys. Probably. On the same note, apparently they forgot Kingdom Hearts ever happened, and he doesn't speak English. Probably.

ANNNNNND much more importantly, there's gonna be a "Super Smash Bros. Special Broadcast" in December. Given that it's supposedly important,
it's probably the ballot. Which means that Cloud isn't the ballot winner. Probably. So, um, if you wasted your ballot entry on Cloud,
I guess you wasted your ballot entry on Cloud? I don't really know how you feel. Roy came before the Ballot ended, so I don't really know.
If that was the ballot, noice work Clanky, this all your fault.

I'm excited for the pokemon games. Everything else though didn't really interest me. My smash love dropped away after it made me break my 3ds buttons(Partly my fault but still) and same applies to Mario Maker and Splatoon. Linkle though seems really cool. I hope we learn more about her.

nintendo does it again

by that I mean a lackluster, boring, borderline irrelevant direct presentation with nothing to offer.

i'll just give my take on the announcements:
Spoiler:
twilight princess hd: i can't really be too mean about this, as a sony fangirl the biggest drag has been hd releases... and i still buy them. but wow is it just me or has tp aged terribly. also oh boy more glorified pieces of plastic

brief snippet of new zelda: i'll admit i think the style is bae, but i'm still not convinced they won't push this to nx because if smash and mario kart barely pushed wii u's i don't think zelda will save their shrinking home console fanbase

triforce heroes: does anybody really enjoy this game, like deep in their heart for real pinky swear

pokemon mystery dungeon: how well do these sell i'm legitimately curious

splatoon: this game does nothing for me, it's just another squad shooter that happens to be cute. i don't know that updates for a niche audience is really direct worthy

mario maker: it's still sad a DIY game that should have cost $10 is the only thing keeping things afloat right now

animal crossing whatever: please stop pretending this is anything but a way to sell those amiibo i can't take it

tennis: it's just kinda there

xenoblade chronicles x: from what i've read of japanese reviews i'm really not interested in this considering i have open world fatigue after the witcher 3 and mgs5 and now fallout 4 and even zestiria had open elements with more to come from various devs in 2016. probably more exciting for wii u owners who've been rpg starved

star fox: i really adore star fox, but this looks like a bargain bin title and i'm not even talking about its dated graphics

final fantasy explorers: i'll probably buy this at some point

fire emblem: really brilliant marketing move when you think about it, but it's probably a good game, with a cash grab twist

pokemon r/b/y: i can't wait to enjoy games that aged abysmally for the sake of something arbitrary like nostalgia, i mean what more could i want

cloud: it's hilarious
i wouldn't take me too seriously just giving them a hard time, though i really am unimpressed. i am legitimately awaiting dragon quest and paper jam, though.

I liked this direct, not like i was expecting new content really but what did get shown i was very pleased with c:
Spoiler:
Everything was just pleasing for me except for the pokemon announcements in their entirety, Mario tennis and Animal crossing. Besides those everything was fine.

And Cloud in smash. I died. This is like the most non nintendo you can get and he gets in. Glorious

I think the biggest problem is that the game looks like they slapped Wind Waker HD's shading and updating process onto Twilight Princess.

Spoiler:
I'm legitimately curious about the R/B/Y rerelease. Will they remove things like MISSINGNO. or the Mew glitch, or will they keep them to make it like it was before? Usually if glitches are fixed for Virtual Console games, it's only major, game-destroying ones. But these games' glitches are very circumstancial.

Also, I really want Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. REALLY want it.
Fedoras and umbrellas will always stand beside me!

Just scanned over it for the 'Cloud' part, might look at it depending on which Cookies chaoadventures is giving.
In all seriousness, I might scrape up the cash to get Smash now, I'm really got into FF7 and I liked it, I got to disc 3 then was told to grind, and got bored.
I'd like to get Mario Maker anyway.
What, Christmas ended? Whatever, I'm leaving the decorations up!

I'm also selling a Heart Fruit, I thought buying the last would make it more valuable and increase the demand, it didn't.
Anyway it's still sold out and I'm still selling! Buy It!

I wouldn't buy Smash just for Cloud dlc. That's just me though.

Anyhow, reading around what's in the update, I can't say I'm impressed. I've lost a lot of interest in Nintendo after Iwata's passing. They're pushing more towards mobile marketing, a direction I don't agree with, and refusing to bring in more original games to the table. Splatoon was their most recent try at something new, but I'm not going to buy a Wii U just for a squad shooter.

Everything else from Nintendo has been HD re-releases, the push to sell more Amiibo figures/cards for mediocre games, and overall rehashing of the same IPs they've had for years.

What makes me angry about Amiibo has to be the fact that they're essentially physical micro transactions . I think they're really cool, and USUALLY very nicely painted, but they're still something you need to buy to unlock more content for your games. It's awful to say the least.

I just don't care about most of the stuff Nintendo has to offer anymore I guess. Pokemon Tournament seemed neat I guess, but that's about it.

Eh, not a lot stood out to me. I like hyrule warriors legends, but the name linkle is just...bad in a really funny way, but I guess it COULD have gone worse.

Don't really care for cloud, it's a nice surprise, but I haven't played FF7 *breaks fire barrier item box*

I like RBY being ported, but I would have preferred remakes using the X-Y animations and mechanics, since gen 1 is just...unbalanced.

Haven't picked up splatoon yet, but I want to at some point (I was sold at the squid girl costume being added, especially since I was watching the show at the time.)

Disappointed with the Zelda Wii U time...there was Zelda Wii U right? I honestly don't remember.

Am I forgetting anything else?
hey there! I don't have anything to put here for the moment, you can just move along now.

They're usually chocolate chip. But sometimes, I hand out Yoshi Cookies. And I wouldn't get Smash for Cloud. I'd get it for Roy.

Thing is they did this with the e-Reader years ago, and nobody cared. And the reward isn't that great for anything other than Smash, so they re just come off as way less expensive and yet still
high quality versions of the stuff First 4 Figures makes (Not that high, but Luigi has a freakin' pattern on his overalls.).

Behold! Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen!
Type Chart balance has been restored, Charmander can beat Brock now, it's in color, Mewtwo is a still somewhat considered a beast, you can use Pokemon Colosseum instead of Stadium to fight in
3D, once again it's in color, the sprites don't have official art contradicting problems, and there's obligatory remake extras.
And I can also genuinely say that X and Y aren't that much more balanced.
At least it looks like Yellow is in color.

lmaooooo XY is much more balanced than RBY and FRLG from a singles perspective. VGC can get a little stale, but that's because there aren't many people who like to innovate in the pokemon community.

^What is singles? What is Smogon? What are crappy unofficial formats with bad rule structure?
But seriously, tell me. Tell me that Scarf Landorus-T and Thundurus don't have one ultimate job: Flinch and Confusion/Full Paralysis, or put more simply, try to "hax" you.
Tell me most people don't use them just for that. Tell me people don't just put them on their team because everyone else does, and ends up doing it anyways, causing luck based mirror
matches everywhere.

And that picture doesn't mean VGC itself is stale, it just means the game revolves around them (and an awkwardly high amount of luck (And Kangaskhan)) heavily. Not that it isn't stale.
Also with the amount of pointless bans in XY OU, I'd be surprised if there was more balance than RSE. But this is off-topic and should be in the my VGC thread.

Singles - 1v1
Smogon - ok
Crappy Unofficial Formats with Bad Rule Structure - Not smogon.
But seriously, tell me. Tell me that Scarf Landorus-T and Thundurus don't have one ultimate job: Flinch and Confusion/Full Paralysis, or put more simply, try to "hax" you.
That's p much VGC. I've never seen either of these pokemon go for that outside of VGC.
Tell me most people don't use them just for that.
Most people don't use them just for that outside of VGC.
Tell me people don't just put them on their team because everyone else does,
I literally said that people put Lando/Thundo on their team because everyone else does and no one wants to innovate.
Also with the amount of pointless bans in XY OU, I'd be surprised if there was more balance than RSE.
Just because things get moved up and down tiers doesn't mean that something is imbalanced. If Linoone moved up from where it's at now to the tier above it, would that make RSE the most broken game ever because Linoone was banned from whatever tier it's in now?

Also my argument was "XY > RBY in singles" not "XY meta is most balanced." Anyone who played even semi competitively could see that there were balance issues in RBY singles.

Also why are we talking about XY when ORAS has been out for a year or two?

You mean this weird thing?
EvilPinkamina wrote:Crappy Unofficial Formats with Bad Rule Structure - Not smogon.
Yes Smogon. Look at these unnecessary rules:
Baton Pass Clause: Limit one Baton Passer, can't pass Spe and other stats simultaneously (Try harder.)
OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned (Is that really a problem for you guys?)
Moody Clause: Moody is banned (Once again, try harder, Haze is a thing.)
Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned (Seriously, is it really that hard?)
And yet, some how, there's no Duplicate Item "Clause". I give these rules a 0/10.
OU really looks and feels more like "YOU. ME. FIGHT. NOW." and less "Use your resources wisely."
EvilPinkamina wrote:Most people don't use them just for that outside of VGC.
On the other hand, Smogon isn't really worth much in the first place. Or Battle Spot Singles for that matter. I don't see anyone getting streamed by The Pokemon Company, or given trophies, or
getting flights to World Championships for playing singles. Or more casually, getting any Battle Competitions these days.
EvilPinkamina wrote:Just because things get moved up and down tiers doesn't mean that something is imbalanced. If Linoone moved up from where it's at now to the tier above it, would that make RSE the most broken game ever because Linoone was banned from whatever tier it's in now?
I-I don't even know what Linoone does. Hold on.

Okay I'm back. No. It wouldn't. Also Linoone is in UU so that doesn't work. But banning something game shaping would. Banning Mawilite? Yes. Kangaskhanite? Yes. Slowking? No.
If you take out what's at the very top, you just open the flood gates for the second best(s) to come in and dominate. Chances are what was at the very top actually kept a bunch of dangerous things
in check.
They were usable, but they couldn't dominate, because of what's at the top, but were probably necessary for defeating what's at the top and most likely provide more variety than it originally
seems. If they are allowed to rule, it will be worse than what we had in the beginning, becoming harder to combat because of the number of them. Banning stuff can only make the situation worse,
while playing anti-meta leaves the unbalanced game there and tries to work with it.
Either way, the game can't be fixed by anyone other than Game Freak (Changing stats, move damage, move and ability effects).
EvilPinkamina wrote:Also my argument was "XY > RBY in singles" not "XY meta is most balanced."
EvilPinkamina wrote:XY is much more balanced than RBY and FRLG from a singles perspective.
Correction: Your argument was "XY > RBY & FRLG (Which would be RS with the National Dex and no move tutors.) in singles".
And I''m talking about XY doubles.
EvilPinkamina wrote:Also why are we talking about XY when ORAS has been out for a year or two?
Because typing XY is faster than typing ORAS for hunt and peckers like me. And ORAS looks weird and makes me think of this when I shouldn't.

Ignoring the competitive conversation since that way lies madness, I'll agree that a remake of FRLG that brings them up to G6 standards would've been more worthwhile than VC releases of RBY that don't even match the features of what can be done with unofficial emulation. At the very least, they should've included GB, SGB, and GBC graphics modes, full link-cable over Wi-Fi emulation, and the ability to run two of the games at the same time and do trades between them on a single system. Since all three are essentially the same game, some sort of discount for buying all 3 would've been nice as well. Then again, the VC has long had a problem with "Why should I pay for this when a PC or Smartphone emulator can run it better", yet from what I hear, Nintendo has done very little to improve the service despite having years to do so.

If I wanted to actually play through the story of G1 again, I'd play FRLG again. If I ever play RB again, it'll be to screw around with glitches, and since Yellow fixes most of the glitches that made it in to RB and with FRLG being all around superior, I'm not sure having Pikachu as my starter would provide enough novelty to make it worthwhile.

^This. I like the idea of RBY being on VC, but why should I get them when I can just play FireRed when its literally under my bed in a box with my gba? I could even play Red with my GBC thats in the exact same place!
