The Hat is Stuck?

Recently i gave my dark/run chao a stump to wear on its head. Later, it reincarnated with the stump still on its head and now I am unable to take it off, no matter how many times I throw my chao at a wall. (Which I hate doing.) Does anyone know why this happened or how to get the stump off?

Well, the only thing I can come up with is that you already have reached the limit of eight hats in the garden. These could be egg shells or hats you buy at the Black Market.
