Chao Island Roleplay: Rebirth

Post by Triert »

Teuthis, Chaopolis
Day of Insolence

"For too long, elves on The Chromatic Haven have been at the foot our humans, they don't know freedom, they don't taste what we do here, we refuse to sit by as our leaders do nothing!!!" The words from the podium rang out to the rally that covered the streets of Chaopolis, people swarming in from cities, and towns located all across Teuthis. Human, Elven, and Mammalia's arrived to block out The Light District, the center of trade within the city in order to force officials to take action.

"Today, as we've all agreed to recognize this as our insolence. It will stand to prove we refuse to aid The Chromatic City by any means at all! Their wallets will starve as much as the elves there!" The hooded figure on the podium shouted as the crowd had cheered it on. For a very long time, a movement had stood to oppose the active trade between Teuthis, and The Haven, many of the "Insolant" took to going to the Haven itself to document, record, and capture the treatment the elves have faced on The Chromatic Haven. The treatment spread online, posters spread throughout the streets, dissidents showing their displeasure by setting Ramcoon novelty shops on fire. Which in hindsight, hurt their cause after children within the stores burned to death from their combined arson boycott tactic.

After the arson incidents that targeted Chromatic Haven merchandise and apparel, tensions and support for the Haven grew as people painted the Insolent ones as extremists for their cause. Police were put on high alert to people who refer to themselves as Insolents, today would be an Audacious move by them.

The day of insolence, eh? Nietona was there. She stood towards the back, her hood up and her hands in her pockets as she watched the protest from one of the further buildings on the opposite street, leaning on the wall. It was certainly fairly interesting, watching it. I mean, not that she had anything else to do. She'd long since gotten used to boredom as a part of life; she dared not go anywhere near the Ramcoons, though she expected a chase with them would be fun; some of them had attributes of Phoenixes, and while she could probably down a good few, if they even hit her with one of those... things, she was down and out for good. She just wasn't willing to risk that for a bit of fun. No thrillseeker here. It sorta would defeat the point of "used to boredom".

"Huh..." Nietona folded her arms. They'd done a good amount of damage, but she was still gonna watch and see how this played out. She often seemed like a regular human, because people weren't used to it; it was rare for a Phoenix to ever reveal itself as a Phoenix to people (and that was only for the rare few Phoenixes that could turn into human forms - all world-born Phoenixes could, but only a portion of their descendants could), after the whole Ramcoon thing. She wasn't native to this world, but she wasn't risking that at all, even if they wouldn't at first realise what she was.

She watched the protest, slightly enjoying the fun aspect in it. Her moral compass was there, but she didn't really ever involve herself in the plans of these people. Her old planet had held literally the most peaceful life she'd ever seen, so she's left them to it to come to here, where things were much less peaceful. It was refreshing, and more fun.

"What the hell's gonna happen?" She smirked, the top of her face covered in the shadow of her hoodie, but still vaguely visible. I mean, red hair sorta stood out, even in shadow. Standing as the protest went on... Nietona would do naught but watch. She had a pretty good feeling, though... A feeling that something weird was gonna go down other than this.

She'd been wrong about that countless times in the past though, so she ignored the feeling.

Wiping the sweat of his forehead with a sigh, the young traveler felt his spirit drop as he saw the enormous tumult taking place around the Light District. He was usually rather fond of people but these guys didn't look like they were there shopping, which is what he had planned to do, instead it looked like they were all looking at something, and from the heavy aura he could feel he deduced it was nothing funny or amusing, however the fact that it had drawn so many people together made it seem like it was certainly and important thing.

With the sun shinning down on his red jacket and the smell of people filling his nostrils, Jimmy Pentagrami was about to leave when he finally managed to get a glimpse at what everyone was looking at, a hooded person was exclaiming about how horrid the treatment of elves was in Haven, a place where he had never been before. It sounded rough so he asked around and was surprised to learn about an uprising, about how there had been a few public protests and criminal cases resulting in numerous casualties all performed under the flag of Insolence, a movement that apparently aimed ad freeing the elves from oppression. IT was the first time the globetrotter had heard of this, for he usually stayed far from politic troubles unless he absolutely had to get involved. He could sense dread coming from many of the attendants so he decided to stay, hoping to find out more about the whole ordeal and maybe buy some trinkets after everyone was gone, even if it looked like they weren't leaving any time soon.

Fenito watched the ruckus from afar. He felt kinda bad for the merchants who owned shops in that district, and had he not been a traveling salesman. Fenito pulled the coffin off his back and opened it, pulling out a collapsible chair. He unfolded the chair and sat down, intrigued by how this would turn out.

Uni rolled down a hill and stopped at Skonia's feet as he was drinking some tea. She stared up at him and he stared back with an eyebrow raised. They sat for a few moments while Uni had a silly smile on her face. "... What?" Skonia asked, sipping his tea and looking slightly more confused. "When can we leaaaave?" "... Leave?" "Leave home! You said there's other land too right?" "Oh, yeah... You wan't to leave now? It's kind of sudden..." Uni nodded and got up, running back to their small house on the side of the volcano. She picked up all of her things and ran back out before Skonia could even get there. "Two things. One, where do you want to go, and two, how are we going to get there? Both of us don't know how to fly on your broom." "Dleif!" "..." Skonia glanced up at the tall volcano, "... We're taking him with us?" "Yes, I'm sure no one would freak out too bad." She pulled out a whistle and blew it. A small distant rumble came from the volcano and Dleif climbed out and glided down to them. "Hmm..?" "Fly us to..! Uh... The big place with the humans!" "Teuthis?" "Yeah!" Uni climbed up onto Dleif and waited for Skonia to come up. They held onto Dleif and he took off, reluctantly, flying towards Teuthis.

"Order Twenty-Three, we have reason to use force to apprehend them." The Police were given their orders, riot shields and tear gas on hand as they began to break into the crowd to disperse them. "Even now, our public servants refuse to serve us. we all know who they answer to, so fight, repulse them, show them we refuse to be taken down!"

At that moment, a Mammalia's ears perked up as he saw the unrest turn into its climax. He had sat on the side of a building on the street overlooking it all. "Why would they care so much about a problem on another piece of land, it's not hurting them, but they're mad about it anyways. The Elder was right, humans are pretty dumb." The Mammalia said as he grinded down the wires and onto the street. He walked on the riot shields them self, bludgeoning the police behind them too.

Conrad stood at the edge of, but still in, the uneasy crowd, making an effort to get out. He felt no need to get involved with either side. The only reason he was in the crowd was because he saw a group and thought it'd be a good place to set up a small stand for his simple work, but got caught up listening to the announcement.

Ears ringing, a girl dressed in a translucent jacket and dark viridian dress huffed as she tried to make her way around Teuthis, the sound of the protests blaring throughout the air. It almost seemed unavoidable, and it was even more painful as the protest site got nearer and nearer. Yet, a blur of shadowed viridian made its way past the posters and burning Ramcoon novelty shops, all of which nearly giving the poor teenage girl a heart attack from her surprise. She honestly never suspected such a thing would ever happen but that was only natural because she had no idea about the place she was running into.

The child narrowed her brilliant crimson eyes at the hooded figure before her. If they were to decree such a thing, it would be better to not shout and cry about it rather than to take it personally to the government away from public view unless permitted. The posters were a very efficient tactic, burning shops... not so much. Their hearts were pure though; anyone who fought for a better future for their people ought to be commended, she thought. The economic strategy of an embargo was very well done, and fastidious note-taking adding to the elves' achievements. This, of course she didn't know. Why would she care in the first place? As sorry as this young maiden was for the elves' toil she had just listened to, certainly no good would come of their actions today. It would take a long time for action to be done, and if it came after patience and hard work, then good, very good.

Regardless, there was something else the girl in viridian had to focus herself upon... Nearly everything she had was gone. Her entire identity was shrouded in mystery. Still, she found herself awake ten minutes before lying down on the pavement a few blocks away from the scene. She could still remember a shadowy outline above her blurry eyes, and a feminine voice whispering instructions in her ears to go to the protest and do something about it.

The child sniffed in disdain as she remembered. Maybe those were the wrong directions; for one, she didn't even hear them well. Regardless, she would give it one try. Along the way, she could find someone to help her get used to... all of this, especially seeing all this turmoil. Anyway, the point taken was -- using force against protesters was a bit much...

Extremists as they may be, there was no reason for violence on either sides. If one resorted to using it, then it was obvious that self-defense would be proper but fighting fire with fire was a terrible tactic. Certainly, something would have to be done with this horrendous situation before things could get worse. If this situation was not solved, then no one could be helped. Quickly, she took action and stood between the police and the protesters, speaking coolly. "Just what do you think all of you are doing? Put down that damn megaphone and speak properly! What are you all? Children? I'm not from this island, I think," she said, "but from the looks of it, this has been going on for too long! Think of the pedestrians both protester and police rely on for support and look at the position you've put them in!" She whirled around to face the police and hardened her eyes at them, looking at them sternly as if she were her mother-- and they knew, knew their very own mothers were disappointed in them at this very moment -- regardless of being a child herself. "And you, young men and women, have to consider what they are saying in return. If you wish for these protests to stop, I hope you understand the circumstances behind them and try to make sure they don't arise again, however work it must take. The burning shops and the unresolved tension that seems too old for words... These are not worth the temporary relief you bring. The drudge and toil of true success is all part of the work set out for all of us, as part of a community and as an individual person."

Then, she prepared to leave without waiting for anyone to dare question her words. "Next time, cut the crap and send out pamphlets or something. Maybe you've done it before, but it would save you a hell of trouble. You've all made your point so get this over with. Have a good day, all of you."

Matteus was covered by a thin, dark-colored cloak that gave him a resemblance to a drug dealer as he traveled along he edge of the crowd. He was quite annoyed about the embargo currently underway in the Light District as the stores were the only reason he even came to this city. He could try to sell the fruits he brought to people in the crowd, but that would require a certain social adeptness that Matteus acknowledges he lacks. He heard the guy on the podium shouting, but he gave no mind to the words he was saying as he focused on weaving through the crowd. The political squabble did not really Intrest Matteus until he noticed that the riot police had arrived. Matteus decided to start actually paying attention to the matter at hand when a young woman in a viridian dress ran up and started yelling at the opposing factions. He could not decifer all of what she said over the roar of the crowd, but he heard enough to get the gist of what was said however he could not decide if the woman was extremely brave and responsible or extremely stupid as the riot police were clearly armed, and he doubted that it was for intimidation purposes. Matteus decided to watch to see how this would turn out.

Jimmy Pentagrami was still trying to make sense of it all when he saw her too, that one girl that stood in the middle of the riot, like a mother calming her children. That was what her aura suggested, she had the full semblance of a mother despite her youth, people seemed to listen to her and her feelings felt like nothing but fair. It was certainly refreshing to sense such a strong sense of justice emanate from among the chaotic multitude.
Drawn to her, the Pentagrami boy dropped his backpack, which landed on the ground with exaggerated force, producing a resounding blunt sound. The child drifted through the crowds until he was closer to her and he could hear what she was saying, and he found it easy to agree with all of it. As he saw it, if the crowds decided to listen to her, everything would be fixed, however the riot police did look fixed, after all they were simply doing their jobs. It was dangerous to be so deep into the crowd and he knew it, with every passing second he felt his mind tugging him towards the clear spot he was occupying moments ago, but his heart convinced him to stay in place.

Hearing someone yell loudly from the middle of the riot, Nietona looked up. Scanning the riot, looking for the exact source of the voice but finding that finding it was a more simple job than she'd originally thought. Pinpointing the voice, Nietona's eyes widened and she found herself leaning forward in shock. No... she moved her head back, but kept an eye on that girl. Still, there were people all around this thing that were just sort of... hanging around. Didn't appear to be immersed enough into the crowd to be active members of the riot, but they didn't appear to be far enough away to be taking no part in it.

Then again, this could just be her looking too deeply into this.

Fenito sat up in his chair. "Well, this just took a turn for the interesting." He began to watch with greater intrigue, wondering how the protesters and police would respond to these criticisms. In his experiences traveling the world, he noticed that a constant was that people responded to harsh criticism with violence, and then he thought about his own safety here. He thought about how quickly a mob can form, and decided that when the first punch is thrown from either side, he is high-tailing it out of there

The Riot Police, shaken from the words the girl chastised them with shook them, some even going as far as to drop their shields and mace.

"Now, while they are distracted!" The Hooded figure called out as jeeps had surrounded the police from both sides, they had them trapped in a U formation as they fired out mustard gas from the guns on them. "Elven Freedom will come, no matter what the cost! They have waited too long to know what we do, we will not stand idly by and simply continue to wait!" The Hooded Figure said as armed guards surrounded it. He vanished among the crowd as the Mammalian dropped right in front of the girl from before.

"Things took a turn for the worst, this is just going to go to hell if we don't get out now." The Mammalian said as he picked up the viridian girl who stood between the waves and ran a building while carrying her.

"Weeeeeeeeee!" Uni cheered in joy, looking down at the city below. "I think we came at a bad time..." They flew directly over the crowd, which might have added to the panic, because what could have a shadow like that? Dleif slowed down to a glide and tried to find somewhere to land safely.

At first, the maiden was satisfied, but as soon as the Jeeps came around and tried to trap the police with gas, she did whatever she could to limit the damage by repelling whatever she could with water magic, running around and blasting back the gas to the best of her ability. Like a star in the vast emptiness in space, her magical gem glowed with turquoise magic.

Her eyes were blood red as they fixated a glare upon the hooded elf. "You... You! You ****ing ignoramus!" she snarled, as the armed guards surrounded them. "Do you realize what you have done? You are a traitor to your cause and to basic decency! Go ahead! Run away, coward, because you will pay!" Still, she was tiring quickly after using her water magic... There was only so much she could do. Therefore, it was imperative that she could at least get the police and the crowd away from the mustard gas. As she was thinking this, a shadow descended over the crowd, causing shrieks that only intensified with the chemical weapon's wrath. Maybe it was an airplane or a helicopter! It didn't seem to drop any bombs or anything so she pleaded with the shadow as quickly and loudly as she could. "Please get them out of here! Come back! Come back, please..." Her finger pointed to Nietona's, Matteus's, Fenito's, Conrad's, Usagi's, and Jimmy's direction though she did not actually know who they were aside from innocent bystanders. However, the dragon was already approaching its landing, and she feared it may not have heard her although she had no idea who it was nor who was riding on it.

Save them, please, her bright ruby eyes begged desperately as she braced herself for whatever else damage the elven renegades had to offer the crowd.

Soon enough, a Mammalian, one that looked like a ram and a raccoon combined, approached her. The girl in viridian just looked at him in bewilderment, unsure of why he was there and what he was doing there and above all, unsure of what she could do to help salvage whoever she could from this hellish nightmare, one where she had not the slightest clue of what she was or what she had left... How pathetic -- she could not even resist as the ramcoon seized her and ran over a building. Instead of being surprised or enraged, she was more than distraught and barely clinging onto hope.

"The others..." she said hoarsely, having no means to refute his last statement.

Dleif's eyes widened as he heard her plead, swiftly turning around and landing in the city, far enough from the commotion that he did not land on anyone. Starting to lightly but swiftly run towards the crowd, careful to not break a thing. He stepped around a corner and stared directly into her eyes, then slowly looking down at the chaos. "What are you..."

"WRRRRRUUUUAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUURRRRRRGGHHH!!!"

Dleif interrupted all with a powerful roar, straining himself because he hasn't roared in a long time, but it was loud enough to get people's attention. Meanwhile, Uni seemed to not understand what was going on, just being excited about it anyways.

Gas... Nietona looked on disapprovingly. Gas wouldn't get you anywhere... she crossed her arms, the Police getting gassed. The hooded person... they were gone. No doubt they'd turn up later... but even as that was happening, a shadow passed over the crowd. Couldn't be a Phoenix as they'd feel the heat, couldn't be a dragon because a dragon wouldn't just come into public like that, and couldn't be a Ramcoom because... simply put, they weren't that big. "Guh... too much activity. But, I can't..." Couldn't... hmm. She couldn't let on what she couldn't do.

Breaking her state and leaving the wall, Nietona leapt into the air, jumping on a couple of heads with her breath held as she went over the crowd rather than by it, her hood being blown back by the wind and her red hair being thrust into view. She turned the corner, running and darting between buildings, pursuing the... the thing that had taken away the girl that had spoken. Her eyes remaining on the rooftop where they were, she ducked and darted through obstacles, not jumping up but chasing on ground level. "Where are you even going..." Likely just somewhere away from the crowd. She'd follow to the best of her ability.

Couldn't do anything in public, but she had to meet that person... wait, what the hell...?! She was distracted for a split second when she looked back. Was that a dragon?! No time for regrets! She looked back to see that her targets had gotten even further away. "Hey! Get back here!" If her hood had been up, she might have been mistaken for an Elf member of that little thing. Luckily, it was down at this point.

The dragon was back there. She was pursuing the thing that kidnapped the girl.

Skonia was shrugging and making small noises of mass confusion, not entirely sure what is going on. Dleif took his focus on the woman who called out to him, and instead, focused on what else she said. Save them she said, save who? Save... "You?" Dleif said, having grabbed Usagi in an instant and staring at her curiously. "Are you one that I am supposed to save?" He asked calmly to her.

Dleif lifted Usagi up and put her on his back with Uni and Skonia. "Yes, I'm a dragon." "Eeeeeeee! Hello friend!!" Uni cheered, waving at Usagi and making sure the pumpkin she held on her head didn't fall off. "Um, hello..? Do keep in mind, I have no idea what this dragon is doing..." Dleif's attention was distracted by the boy that jumped onto the roof. Dleif frowned as he seemed very unhappy with what was going on, and gently stood on his hind legs, peering at him. He held his hand out for him to step onto if he wanted. "Are you alright..? I can get you out of here if you wish." Dleif assured him softly, giving the best of a smile he can muster with his dragon head.
