I was 10 and that game was The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and I was SO frikkin happy about it. That's has to be one my most cherished memories ever right there. I'm gonna drop everything I'm doing and play Oracle of Ages for a while now.

Technically, I've never actually owned a pet, but there's always been at least one dog or cat in the house.

If Virtual pets count, my first experience with Chao was on SADXGC, which I got shortly after it's US release. If I remember correctly, that was summer of 2003, at which time I was sixteen. I may have played Hey You Pikachu on the N64 prior to that(I got it for Christmas one year), but I can't remember.
