because one thing that gets very tiring is the whole mere 5 or so variables of moe character design: hair, eyes, accessories, chest size, and sock length.

having your characters wear something other than a school uniform helps show the character's personality in how they dress and also looks a lot more interesting and is more creative than reusing the same uniform for everybody.

not that I'm taking this seriously at all! it was just a concept, I'm trying to have fun like everyone else. :D though it's supposed to be an "anime" it never said that it took place somewhere where school uniforms are common.

I happen to like the school uniform aesthetic, but it's true enough that many animators in Japan never bother to give middle and high school aged characters any casual street clothes, and even among anime characters in that age bracket that are seen out of uniform, many lack a signature outfit that isn't their uniform. Perhaps a some what silly compromise: The standard, unisex uniform consists of a long sleeve tunic and leggings in Chao blue with chao yellow cuffs with a sock cap the same blue with a yellow pompom and chao wings on the back of the tunic, but students have the same range of customization for their uniforms that Chao Breeders have for their Chao. So, a goth first year might opt for a black with red trim version of the uniform(the dark Chao template), while the captain of the track team might where cobalt blue and have a cap with multiple points instead of the one of the default(giving them the look of a Sonic Chao), etc.

Anyways, a more serious idea:

The STEAM club is always creating gadgets with aesthetically pleasing designs. These gadgets are as likely to be the cause of the problem of the day as they are to be the solution. The Club's storage has dedicated bins labeled Deus ex machina and diabolo ex machina for their most useful and most dangerous inventions respectively.

Having 4 sets of dorms would be cool (much like how Harry Potter has). You could start out as Neutral and as time goes on, you eventually graduate into either Power, Run, Fly or Swim with colored uniforms, and possibly having Neutral colours (Blue uniforms) when you're a freshman, and then you get White or Black uniforms with special coloured parts depending on your affiliation, no idea how Hero and Dark would be decided, maybe some dumb thing with the uniform knowing what kind of person you are as you grow up and changing colour accordingly.

So a Black uniform with Green highlights could be a Dark Student who is part of the Swim dorm.
