X/Y - Shiny Hunting!

So, I've been seeing a lot of photos in which there is a shiny among a horde in X/Y, which made me get thinking - Are shinies more common in hordes? And if so how common? So, I'm going to be Sweet Scenting the life out of a Combee to see how long it takes me to find one, if I do. If anyone can confirm it's true, please let me know because I haven't seen any info on it yet.

Edit 1: It appears tipping can increase your rate at shinies. I will try this at the Spooky House

I believe so.
I think that maybe because there's 5 pokemon, it's a higher chance to bring in the rare shiny.

Yeah, that seemed likely. lus, the shiny rate odds are higher in this game meaning more chances at shinies. Still haven't found one yet through hordes or breeding

There is a 1/8192 chance to find a shiny in a wild encounter. That means that, if there are five in 1 encounter, there is 5 times the chance, if I'm doing my math correctly. Making it a 5/8192. There isn't enough information yet to actually determine if this is true, or there is some sort of special way that they've devised to determine the odds of a shiny in a horde, but that's just from what I've got from bulbapedia and from Gens III, IV, and V.

Well, I really do think they have increased the odds. People have been finding many shinies even without obtaining them from hordes, but maybe they didn't. Hopefully someone researches and finds out.

I'm searching for a shiny Pumpkaboo now.

So, after 176 eggs (177 including the shiny), I finally got shiny Pumpkaboo.

The only problem is... My wi-fi decided to not work anymore and I can't trade it to evolve it yet.

I've been sweet scenting everywhere to the point Aurorus (the only one that has a move that can hit 5 at once) is almost over leveled.

Congrats! If your Wi-Fi is fixed soon or you can get it somewhere else I can help you evolve it.

Shadria, try using the Masuda Method instead. Already got 2 shinies in 3 days with it. Or try the Friend Safari. it seems to be saturated with shinies.

...I may catch and trade some random pokemon over GTS to see if I can get a pokemon from another country to try Madusa Method...but my WIFI is crap too...

I find that hard to believe, because I've tipped so much money into them (at least 50,000 poke) and have yet to even see a shiny. And Ironically not becausee I thought tipping would bring about shinies. I just did it because I'm a nice ************

Well bearing in mind the chances are still ridiculously high, i wouldn't be surprised if you didn't find any until post elite 4.

New method found:

1. Get a fishing rod.
2. Go fish in front of a sparkly water patch by rocks. (like in Op's picture)
3. (Optional) Get a Pokémon with suction cups to keep chain from breaking.
4. DON'T MOVE
5. Catch shiny after 1-100 fish attempts.

Actually, the sparkle doesn't do anything. You just have to fish in front of a wall or rock.

Already caught a shiny Clawitzer.
