CHARACTERS SO FAR:

Shadow (male) - A strange creature, being completely black in coloration with large, yellow eyes with no pupils. He has short arms with no distinguishable hands. His feet are round and not attached to his body, as he has no legs. He has large, pointy ears, and he can grow wings and a tail at will. The wings are black and batlike, and the tail is thin with an arrowhead shape at the tip.
Light (female) - A completely white creature who, like Shadow, has bright yellow eyes with no pupils. She has stubby arms and no legs, just like Shadow. However, her feet are slightly pointed at the tip. Her ears are large and pointy as well, but are longer and curl like horns. Like Shadow, she can also grow wings and a tail. Her wings are white and feathery, like a dove's. Her tail is slender and catlike.
Tangerine (female) - An orange, short-haired cat who walks on two legs. She is only slightly taller than Shadow and Light. One fang always pokes out of her mouth.
Clementine (female) - An orange, short-haired cat who walks on two legs. She is slightly shorter than Shadow and Light. She is Tangerine's little sister.
Mango (male) - An orange, long-haired cat who walks on two legs. He is the same height as Tangerine, and is also her cousin. Like Tangerine, a single tooth pokes out of his mouth at all times.
Cocoa (female) - A brown Fennecat with yellow markings. She has combined features of both a fennec fox and a cat: She is small, has whiskers, a long furry tail, and large ears. A red flower is present by her left ear.

A virtual fantasy land. For years, it has been quite peaceful. But everything changed once the Virals invaded. Virals are beings that do not belong- A "Glitch", if you will. They come in many forms, and can be quite dangerous to the characters who live in this land. The Virals, and their leader, formed their own territory far east, in a land now known as Cyber Canyon. Luckily, two heroes rose up and stopped the Virals after nearly 15 years of living in constant fear. This is their story. A story of not only them, but the characters they meet, and the world that they save. This is the story... Of Shadow and Light.

It was noon. A pitch-black creature was resting beneath a huge tree, about the size of a tall building. Eventually, he opened his bright yellow eyes. "...Is it morning already...?" he mumbled, not realizing the actual time until he gazed up at the clocktower in the distance, located in the center of the town under the unnaturally tall oak tree. "...WHAT?! 12:00?! I have to get going right away! I can't be late!" Even as he shouted, no visible mouth was seen on this creature. The stood up and ran as fast as his disembodied feet could carry him. The creature, Shadow, had promised to meet his older sister, Light, at Stellanight Garden in Skyshine City at exactly 12:30. Currently, he was in Terrashade Town, which was miles below Skyshine City. He would have to fly very swiftly to get there on time.
Shadow continued to run until he could see the sky above him, rather than the leaves of the tree. In a matter of seconds, a pair of black, batlike wings sprouted from his backside, along with a thin tail with an arrowhead shape at the tip. He shot upwards into the sky, and was out of sight within a minute.
At long last, Shadow arrived at the floating landmass that was Skyshine City. He glanced around, and saw a familiar building. "Stellanight Garden!" He darted toward it, and upon entering, he was amazed at the painted ceiling, looking just like a night sky. He then gazed at all the nocturnal plants all around. Beautiful and fascinating specimens, such as the Glowbulb Tulip and the Venus Mosquitotrap. The then looked up and saw a white creature, Light, standing right in front of him with her arms crossed. "Shadow... Why do you always have to be late to these meetings?" she said with a sigh.
"Sorry..." Shadow hung his head in shame.
"Oh, don't worry about it. It isn't that big of a deal."
"So, why did you want to tell me?"
"It's about the Virals... I heard rumors that they plan to expand their territory until the entire land of Mythicalia is theirs!"
Shadow's large, pointed ears twitched. "Wait, WHAT?"
"It's only a rumor, but we can't take the chance. We have to stop them once and for all!" Light stated firmly.
"But... Haven't you heard? Once, a young Blob named Citrus ventured through to try to stop them. She could transform, so she figured she could disguise herself. But her bright orange coloration must have given her away, as she still hasn't returned..."
Light didn't respond. Instead, she simply stared at Shadow, a slightly sad look in her bright yellow eyes. "Just follow me," she finally said.
Shadow continued to run until he could see the sky above him, rather than the leaves of the tree. "Almost," Light responded. "We'll know when we see the forcefield that surrounds the territory."
As a matter of fact, it wasn't very long before they encountered a large, translucent barrier, stretching up to the sky. The two creatures stopped and stared at the forcefield.
"Oh dear..."
"What is it, Light?"
"The barrier... It's EXPANDING! The rumors are true! This barrier was designed to keep the Virals in, but they must've found out some way to make it grow! If we don't hurry, the barrier will surround the entire land, and the Virals will delete everyone! Let's go!"
Shadow nodded, and the two siblings flew into over to the expanding forcefield. But they didn't pass through, and instead crashed right into it.
"Ow..." Light groaned, holding her head. "Why didn't we get through? It was designed to keep Virals in, but it's not supposed to be programmed to keep us out! Otherwise, we'd never be able to launch any attacks on them even if we expand our army..."
"I don't know. But... Maybe it's because..." Shadow then paused.
"Because what?"
"Well, have you ever noticed that Virals look almost exactly like us? They especially look like me. They have my eyes, my ears, my coloration... The only difference is their body shape..." He cringed as he mentioned that last bit. Virals came in multiple variations, one of which had long, thin legs like a bug or spider.
"You mean... Our coding might be too similar...? Maybe if there was a way to transform ourselves..." Light sighed.
"Hey, THAT'S IT!" Shadow shouted, waving his arms frantically. "We just need to find a way to transform into a different creature! Then our coding should be different enough to let us pass through the forcefield."
Light stared at him. Her arms were crossed. "No one here as ever been able to transform, except for the Blobs. And even they remain the same species, just with a different shape. How are WE supposed to change ourselves like that? And even if we find a way... Well... I just hope the Virals' territory doesn't expand too much by that point."
"We'll succeed. Trust me, just this once." Shadow seemed confident.

This time, Shadow was in the lead. The two siblings were flying toward a new destination: Feline Falls. This location was by a waterfall, as the name suggested, and the nearby village was inhabited by anthropomorphic cats. Perhaps these cats knew something...
Shadow and Light landed in front of a small hut with a small wooden door. Shadow knocked, and an orange cat opened the door. She had a serious look on her face, but was actually rather kind. "Ah, visitors! Clementine, come here!" the cat called.
A second orange cat appeared, considerably shorter than the first. "Tangerine, what is i- OH! Who's that?"
The first cat, Tangerine, shrugged. She then glanced back at the two creatures standing before her. "What are your names?" she asked.
"I am Shadow, and this is my sister, Light."
"Oh! I've heard about you two! Come inside!" Tangerine said with a smile.
They went inside. The inside was rather dull, with a basket of fruit off to the side.
"So, what brings you two here?" Tangerine asked curiously.
"We've been wondering... If there is a way to transform ourselves into a different species. The barrier surrounding Cyber Canyon is expanding, and we can't seem to get through," Shadow responded.
"Oh, I see. Well, I can't really tell you much about that, sorry. But... My cousin, Mango, might know something about it. Ask him. He lives in the hut next to mine."
"Ours," Clementine corrected.
Tangerine rolled her eyes.
Shadow and Light said goodbye to the two orange cat sisters, and walked over to the hut nearby. This time, Light was the one to knock. A third orange cat opened the door, although this one had long fur. He glared at the two protagonists. "What do you need? he asked with a frown.
So the two heroic creatures told him the story.
"Ah, a transformation spell, eh? There's a scroll for one that transforms you into a cat, like me. It's hidden in a cave behind the waterfall, of course. But it's guarded by a creature known as the Toxitooth Tiger. And lately, it's been acting a bit more aggressive for some reason... I suggest you be very careful."
"Oh, we will!" Shadow said confidently.
Light didn't look so sure.
Mango showed Shadow and Light a pathway that would lead them to the cave behind the waterfall without getting wet. "Good luck," Mango said.
The two heroes entered the cave. The Toxitooth Tiger was seen, sleeping. It was a deep purple, with patches of pale lavender on its face, paws, and tail. It had black stripes on its body. Shadow and Light exchanged a glance. They both knew they had to be very quiet. Shadow tiptoed around the Toxitooth Tiger and saw the scroll, located on top of a flat rock. He carefully grabbed it, but unfortunately, it made a very slight crumpling sound.
A pair of bright golden eyes were glaring at Light. "Um, Shadow... I think you woke it up!" She sprouted her wings and tail and flew to the ceiling of the cave. The Toxitooth Tiger tried to swat her down with its front paws, but it couldn't quite reach. Shadow grew his wings and tail as well, as he had an idea. "Hey, kitty kitty! Over here!" He then flew upwards and smacked one of the stalactites, causing it to fall. It missed the Toxitooth Tiger by about an inch. He tried again. Right at that moment, the toxic feline had leaped into the air, but the falling stalactite hit the monster, knocking it down. It hissed angrily. "Hey, let me try!" Light said. She swatted a stalactite with her tail, and it fell. It landed right on the catlike monster's own tail, and it yelped. "And now... For the final blow!!!" Shadow dived down and kicked it in the spine. The Toxitooth Tiger wailed in pain, and then began to cough something up- Black pixels. They vanished into the air as they were coughed out. After the Toxitooth Tiger was done, the angry look in its eyes was gone. It looked sorry, almost. Was it being controlled? Light removed the stalactite form its tail and the feline began to purr softly, much like a happy house cat. "Well, we got the scroll!" Shadow said happily. "Let's go and try it out!"

Shadow and Light flew back to Cyber Canyon, but discovered that the barrier had expanded while they were away. It now took up not only Cyber Canyon, but Digital Desert as well.
"We have to hurry!" Light said. "Read the scroll!"
"...Felis Silvestris Catus!" Shadow said, and the scroll then began to glow. It floated in the air and surrounded both Shadow and Light with a sparkling substance. Then it disappeared. "Um... Nothing happened..." Shadow looked a bit disappointed.
"Wait. I have an idea. Let's concentrate... Maybe the scroll wasn't meant to transform us immediately, but instead gives us the ability to transform at will?" Light suggested. She then shut her eyes tightly.
"Oh, all right..." Shadow said and did the same. They both began to glow brightly. When it stopped, they were now in the form of cats.
Shadow was the first to open his eyes. He stared down at his paws. Then he turned to look at his furry tail. And then he noticed his feet were now attached to a pair of legs. "This is... Gonna take some getting used to."
"Wait a minute..." said Light. "We don't have our wings anymore. If we did this while flying in the air, that means... Uh-oh..."
The two fell all the way to the ground below. Despite falling such a height, however, Shadow and Light remained unharmed. "Oh yeah... Cats always land on their feet!" Shadow pointed out.
Light sighed. She stared at the forcefield, which was still creeping toward the duo. "Let's see if this works..." She slowly walked over to the barrier, and managed to step through as if it wasn't even there. Shadow smiled, as he now had a mouth, and followed his older sister.
"Wait, Shadow..." Light whispered. "This place is crawling with Virals. We must be very careful, or they'll see us." Sure enough, there was a group of Virals up ahead, walking through the sand of Digital Desert. But, unfortunately, it was too late. They turned their heads toward the duo, and revealed their sharp teeth.
Shadow hissed and charged at one of the Virals. He scratched it with his sharp claws, and it disappeared in a puff of black pixels- Just like the ones the Toxitooth Tiger had coughed up. Then, however, another Viral had snuck up on Shadow from behind and bit his tail. He tried to shake it off, but it was no use. The Viral was biting down tightly. Shadow clenched his teeth. "Don't worry, Shadow! I'm on it!" Light ran past the Virals she was fighting and yanked off the one biting Shadow's tail. She squeezed it tightly until it, too, disappeared. She turned around. There were two Virals left, but they were retreating.
Light sighed. "We can't let that happen again..." she said. "Let's try to find the Oasis. I bet we can find something important there."
"We have to hurry!" Light said. "Read the scroll!"

Sand-colored pixels were flying about. A sandstorm.
"Ugh... I can barely see anything..." Shadow complained.
"Dont worry. We're almost there... I think..." Light replied.
Eventually, the sandstorm stopped and the Oasis finally came into view.
"Ah, finally..." Light said.
"I'm so tired of walking... Can we transform back into our normal forms and fly over there instead?" Shadow suggested. He sounded exhausted.
"Sure, why not?" Light closed her eyes and began to concentrate. Shadow saw this and did the same, and the duo began to glow once more. When they opened their eyes, they saw that they were back to normal.
Shadow sprouted his wings and took off toward the Oasis.
"Hey, wait up, Shadow!" Light called. She, too, grew wings and flew after him.
When they got to the Oasis, Shadow dove into the pool of water. Light, on the other hand, was taking a look at her surroundings. There were a few banana trees, and a small brown creature was resting underneath one. It was clearly not a Viral. Light walked over to it slowly and it woke up.
"AAAAAH! DON'T DELETE ME PLEASE!" it shouted. "Oh, wait... Sorry about that." The creature stood up. It wasn't much taller than Light, although it did have large ears. A tropical, red flower was placed next to her left ear. It had a brown coloration, with some yellow marking. Its coloration reminded Light of a chocolate-covered banana.
"...What are you?" Light asked.
"Why, I'm a Fennecat!" she said, smiling in a friendly manner. "The name's Cocoa."
"But... What are you doing out here?" Light seemed confused.
"Well..." Cocoa began, "I live here. Sort of... I was going to move to Feline Falls ever since I heard the rumor about the Virals. But I was so tired... So I took a little nap. But when I woke up, the barrier had expanded all across the desert! I tried to leave, but I was attacked by Virals. I managed to escape, and got tired again from running back here... So I took a second nap... And now you're here! Can you help me leave?" Cocoa looked really hopeful.
"Well... Let me ask Shadow." Light turned around. "HEY, SHADOW! Is it OK if we do a little... Escort Mission?"
Shadow surfaced from the water. "What? What did you say?"
"...Uh, nothing...." Light said. She then turned to Cocoa. "Oh, don't worry. I'm sure he won't mind!"
"YAAAAY!" Cocoa cheered.
"Wait... What's going on?" Shadow said. "We better not be turning back, we just GOT here!"
"OK, fine. I'll take Cocoa back. You keep going on your own," Light said.
"...Never mind. I'd prefer if we'd stick together. I guess I'll come along..." Shadow sighed. He climbed out of the water. "Let's go."
Light nodded. "Hey, how about we fly? I'll carry you, Cocoa!" she then suggested.
Cocoa smiled. "Of course!"
"Alright, then! Grab on!"
Cocoa grabbed Light's hands, and the little Fennecat was carried into the sky. Shadow followed close behind.
After a few minutes, a large shape was seen below. Its color was similar to that of the sand, but it was still visible.
"What in Mythicalia is THAT thing?" Shadow said, staring downwards.
Cocoa glanced down. "ACK! It's a Tortoisaurus!" she shouted.
"A what?" Light asked. "Never heard of that."
"Neither have I," Shadow said.
"A Tortoisaurus is a huge creature that lives in this desert. It is normally harmless, but after the Virals expanded their territory to here, it's bound to be glitched!" Cocoa explained.
"Well, let's go!" Shadow said. "I'm ready for another fight."
"I'll try to help," Cocoa said. "I'm not very strong, but I can distract it. Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine."
Light and Shadow flew downwards, and landed just behind the large, yellow beast. Light placed Cocoa on the ground gently.
Despite being very silent, the Tortoisaurus sensed something. It turned around and roared loudly.
"..." Shadow got into a fighting pose.
Cocoa ran over to the oversized desert tortoise. "Hey! Down here!"
The Tortoisaurus tried to step on her, but it was slow. She ran out of the way to dodge the attack.
"Quick, while it's distracted!" Light said. She flew up into the air.
Shadow followed. "How do we attack? It's got red spikes all along the back of its head and tail. Even if you attack the sides, it could try to bite you or swing its tail.
"Maybe we can attack the shell."
"I don't know... But its worth a try." Shadow dove down and kicked the shell. A small crack appeared. "It's working!" he shouted.
The Tortoisaurus was still trying to attack Cocoa, but was failing.
"My turn!" Light did the same as Shadow did. She aimed for the crack in the shell, and it grew larger upon impact. "One more hit should do the trick!"
The Tortoisaurus stopped concentrating on Cocoa. It glanced up and growled. It then began to breathe fire, much like a Dragon.
"What the-" Light flew out of the way of the flames.
"Oh, I forgot to mention!" Cocoa cried. "It has some Dragonlike abilities!"
Light facepalmed.
Shadow dove down and landed a successful hit, shattering the shell. The Tortoisaurus roared in anger and began spitting fireballs.
"Whoa!" Shadow dodged them swiftly. "We better hurry! Quickly, Light! Hit it in the side! Now that we can hurt it, we should take that chance, now!"
Light nodded. She flew up high, then swooped down and landed a kick. The beast, hit in its weak spot, collapsed. It began to cough, much like the Toxitooth Tiger did. Black pixels flew out of its mouth and vanished into thin air. Afterwards, it stood back up and looked calm. The pieces of its shell on the ground shook. They rose up and reattached themselves, reforming the shell as if it had never been destroyed in the first place.
"I think its back to normal now!" Cocoa stated happily. "Why don't we take it with us? We can't let it get corrupted again..."
"Good idea," Light said.
"Hey, why don't we ride it?" Shadow said. Before anyone could answer, he landed on the shell of the creature and got into a relaxing position.
Light sighed. She placed Cocoa on the Tortoisaurus's shell, and then had a seat herself. The Tortoisaurus gladly carried them out of the territory. Although it was slow, it was easier. Virals fled at the sight of the large creature.
When they exited through the barrier, they found that it hadn't expanded at all. Something was fighting against it, trying to hold it back.
"Hmm... Let's go investigate," Light said.
Shadow nodded. "Hey, Cocoa. You can get to Feline Falls on your own from this point on, right?" he then asked.
"Yes!" Cocoa said with a smile.
"Alright, then. Let's go, Light!" Shadow said to his sister. The two then flew off.
"Ugh... I can barely see anything..." Shadow complained.
"Dont worry. We're almost there... I think..." Light replied.
Eventually, the sandstorm stopped and the Oasis finally came into view.
"Ah, finally..." Light said.
"I'm so tired of walking... Can we transform back into our normal forms and fly over there instead?" Shadow suggested. He sounded exhausted.
"Sure, why not?" Light closed her eyes and began to concentrate. Shadow saw this and did the same, and the duo began to glow once more. When they opened their eyes, they saw that they were back to normal.
Shadow sprouted his wings and took off toward the Oasis.
"Hey, wait up, Shadow!" Light called. She, too, grew wings and flew after him.
When they got to the Oasis, Shadow dove into the pool of water. Light, on the other hand, was taking a look at her surroundings. There were a few banana trees, and a small brown creature was resting underneath one. It was clearly not a Viral. Light walked over to it slowly and it woke up.
"AAAAAH! DON'T DELETE ME PLEASE!" it shouted. "Oh, wait... Sorry about that." The creature stood up. It wasn't much taller than Light, although it did have large ears. A tropical, red flower was placed next to her left ear. It had a brown coloration, with some yellow marking. Its coloration reminded Light of a chocolate-covered banana.
"...What are you?" Light asked.
"Why, I'm a Fennecat!" she said, smiling in a friendly manner. "The name's Cocoa."
"But... What are you doing out here?" Light seemed confused.
"Well..." Cocoa began, "I live here. Sort of... I was going to move to Feline Falls ever since I heard the rumor about the Virals. But I was so tired... So I took a little nap. But when I woke up, the barrier had expanded all across the desert! I tried to leave, but I was attacked by Virals. I managed to escape, and got tired again from running back here... So I took a second nap... And now you're here! Can you help me leave?" Cocoa looked really hopeful.
"Well... Let me ask Shadow." Light turned around. "HEY, SHADOW! Is it OK if we do a little... Escort Mission?"
Shadow surfaced from the water. "What? What did you say?"
"...Uh, nothing...." Light said. She then turned to Cocoa. "Oh, don't worry. I'm sure he won't mind!"
"YAAAAY!" Cocoa cheered.
"Wait... What's going on?" Shadow said. "We better not be turning back, we just GOT here!"
"OK, fine. I'll take Cocoa back. You keep going on your own," Light said.
"...Never mind. I'd prefer if we'd stick together. I guess I'll come along..." Shadow sighed. He climbed out of the water. "Let's go."
Light nodded. "Hey, how about we fly? I'll carry you, Cocoa!" she then suggested.
Cocoa smiled. "Of course!"
"Alright, then! Grab on!"
Cocoa grabbed Light's hands, and the little Fennecat was carried into the sky. Shadow followed close behind.
After a few minutes, a large shape was seen below. Its color was similar to that of the sand, but it was still visible.
"What in Mythicalia is THAT thing?" Shadow said, staring downwards.
Cocoa glanced down. "ACK! It's a Tortoisaurus!" she shouted.
"A what?" Light asked. "Never heard of that."
"Neither have I," Shadow said.
