I know a way that all that you need is two memory cards and the game, and it works for dreamcast and gamecube, but if you do it on the dreamcast, the memory card that does not have the chao needs at least 128 extra memory blocks. It takes less than 2 minutes depending how long it takes to load your game. PM me if you want to know how.

I know another way to clone. Requirments: Sonic Adventure. This is how you do it:
1: transfer a chao to sonic adventure/sonic adventure dx
2: Check sonic adventure/sonic adventure dx for the chao (if their it's working)
3: Check sonic adventure battle/sonic adventure 2 battle
4: Chao should pop out of machine
Their you have it. (Note: This is not a glitch)
