Did you ever intentionally abuse your Chao, just to see what would happen and perhaps make dark/hero chaos faster?
I never did, but I remember that I enjoyed starving them so none of them ever ate. Their Stamina was shockingly low.

Re: Chao Abuse
As a kid I might have done it for alignment, but most of the time it was accidental.
When I did breeding tests on Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast, though, I would use E-102 Gamma to cull the newborn Chao in the garden, since they're made of glass and were only bred for cheap on the VMU. On all other versions I just don't save after a breeding test.
I think the actions and sound effects they make after abuse are enough to keep me from doing it anymore. Now, if I accidentally hit a Chao, I genuinely have to go comfort it. I just get like "No, kid, I'm the adult! I'm supposed to be the sad one! Not you!" Adulthood really makes you reconsider the implications of your actions, even to A-Life.

Re: Chao Abuse
no
...
Wait yes. I did. There was this one chao, he had a bunch of animal parts on him, and was a Hero/Normal.
I didn't pay enough attention to everything in the garden, so he just evolved. The problem I had with him just roaming, was that he kept taking Chaos Drives and Animals and hats.
I was like, 7, so the Good-Bye song was simply too much for me to use it (still the saddest song I've heard). So instead, I hit him every time he came by
and was about to ruin whatever I was doing. Only chao I didn't immediately freak out about hitting.
My current logic labels this as effectively a fate worse than death. He was only in one garden so he didn't age as much as the others, because I cycled my chao around a lot.
So basically, my mentality at the time was that I'd raise him into something else that wasn't from doing nothing later, but I think I plain forgot that I had him at all until he started to die,
so that never happened.
And so, right now he's in the Hero Garden, along with all of the other chao that started to die.
---
That's not a metaphor. I still have their Memory Card. I need to go and save them eventually... as soon as I get a Memory Card with room for a new chao on it.

Re: Chao Abuse
I always try to avoid this. There were like a couple of times when as Sonic, I threw Eggman's Chao named Cola into the drink just so that whenever Sonic whistled, it wouldn't respond. The first time, Cola didn't react at all when I brought Eggman in, but the second time, I inadvertently made Cola tremble, but with Eggman's help, Cola got over it. Cola at least still greets Sonic and of course it reincarnated just fine. Cola is currently on its second life, but I haven't played SA2B or any console video games for weeks, maybe even a month or two.
I still plan to return to Chao Adventure 2: Battle at some point, but I think I might be getting depression because I've been hardly motivated nowadays. But anyways, back to the topic. So no, I don't abuse Chao purposefully.

Re: Chao Abuse
I used to have this odd feeling of doing that when I was young... a sense of enjoyment.
I can't describe how I got this, nor why I liked doing it, but it just... happened.
Of course later on, I came to realise that I was most likely hurting myself by doing this, and when I came back to playing the game, I learned to take better care of them.
It feels really nice instead of just abusing chao for no good reason at all.

Honestly, it's kinda weird they give you the option to abuse your chao now that I think about it...

Re: Chao Abuse
I'm guilty of this as well. I bred a bunch of Chao in order to experiment with how Lifenut-induced mating seasons affect lifespan (but more to create a Chaos Chao quicker) and decided to cull the offspring quicker than shoving them into VMUs and formatting them by experimenting on what kinds of abuse injured them. Throwing Chao just made them unhappy, but directly attacking them made them lose HP. I also downloaded a Chaos Chao to see if I could kill it, and succeeded.Crazo3077 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2017 3:59 pm When I did breeding tests on Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast, though, I would use E-102 Gamma to cull the newborn Chao in the garden, since they're made of glass and were only bred for cheap on the VMU. The only other intentional Chao abuse I've engaged in was to get a Chao to remove a hat. It took more than thirty attempts before the hat came off. No, it was not fun.
One can only imagine the gameplay and story segregation that would ensue if Chaos or Cream were normally available in a game with an Adventure-style Chao Garden.
Re: Chao Abuse
well when I was little I accidentally gave an egg shell to one of my chao and he just used it as a hat but it actually scared me so I had to throw him in order to take the hat off... now I feel terrible about that for me accidentally hitting my chao feels almost as terrible as stepping on my dog's paw
sorry if my english sucks

Re: Chao Abuse
I would never abuse my Chao on purpose. It's too sad and I feel so bad whenever it happens. The only time I did on purpose was when I was trying to breed an all S Chao, and grew so frustrated that I took it out on a random child Chao that wasn't going to be kept anyway since I would reset. And now that I know the true perfect Chao, my efforts were meaningless back then.
Anything abusing a Chao does, you can just hack to see what it does. The only thing I would do it for curiosity is how much happiness is dropped or how much emotions it would be filled with, etc. It's still not something I'll probably do myself...

Re: Chao Abuse
I abuse chao.. barely. Abusing chao is kind of funny but when I was 9, that's a whole other story. when I hit a chao I would pet it 30 times, So when I would do the infinte animal/ chaos drive glitch, the chao would run to me and take my animals. That was annoying.

Sonic/Shadow: *runs in garden* *kicks chao* Tails: Chao are really cu- *accidentally hits chao with tail* Knuckles/Rouge: Falcon PUNC- *chao gets punch to the other side of the map* Eggman: Yos-- *stomps on chao* Amy: *tries to pick up chao* *accidentally hits chao with hammer* Big: *jumps and squishes chao* E-102 Gamma: *shoots chao* This is all of the things you can do to abuse chao. *PS: don't abuse chao. That's basically Child abuse, but with chao.*

Re: Chao Abuse
I only ever abuse chao to keep them neutral when going for a neutral evolution. Usually I do this by giving the chao a partially eaten fruit and taking it away repeatedly. That’s the most efficient way to “abuse” them. Upon evolution I will usually pet them 50 times or so for good measure although it usually isn’t necessary since all stat raising actions increase happiness leading to a happy chao when it is time for them to transform.

Re: Chao Abuse
When I was very young (around 5-6, I believe?), I used to abuse chao via throwing them at walls and bouncing in DX. I thought this was simply put, hilarious. I have learnt from my ways however and no longer abuse chao. Unless, they have a hat on, then I have to hurt them.
I'm curious as to why there's not a way in the vanilla game to remove the hats without harming the chao.

Yeah, I just wonder if they intended it this way, or if it was an oversight. Thankfully we sort of worked around that with either editors, or mods (CWE has the new transport menu to remove hats).Momora wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 9:10 am When I was very young (around 5-6, I believe?), I used to abuse chao via throwing them at walls and bouncing in DX. When I learned how to take care of chao better when I was little, I'd feel so bad for accidentally jumping on a chao that i'd send it away in the transport machine. Ya know, instead of making it happy again.
