Chao doctor medicine on his desk?

Post by immaterialgirl »

Does anybody have a clearer view of the chao doctor's medicine he has on the corner of his table? The only thing I can distinguish is the "chao" in katakana but that's it. I know there was a fun fact picture that the medicine said "chao abortion" but after searching for it again, it's clear to me that it's gone.

I used the Dolphin emulator to use a free camera and zoom in on the jar.

I also used its "dump textures" feature to get the label itself.

I don't actually know Japanese, but I've tried to match up the characters on that bottle to Japanese characters as best I can, does it say "Chao Irazu"?

チヤオ
いらず

Apparently "irazu" might mean "needless" or "void" I guess that could equate to abortion as the first post says. Anybody who knows Japanese around?

Although I don’t know Japanese, based on the picture’s context of a dead chao and what you’ve said, I don’t believe it to be “chao abortion” but rather “chao killer” or “chao death”. Google’s basic translation gave me the phrase “no need”.

Which makes me wonder, is this what is in the Chao Transporter?

Are chao not actually transported to a far away forest? You’ll certainly never see them again if it kills them, not only that, but they’ll also be “nothing” or “void” either from being deleted from the game’s data or from their life being gone. Not to mention they’d only go in if you feel that you have “no need” for them.

Then again, I don’t know if the DC version of SA2 had this feature.

Why isn’t it just called chao killer?
I’ll take a guess, and say they wanted to make it a slightly hidden find for you to assume something about (like my small ramble), with no confirmation, if you were a Japanese player.

If anything, the Chao Kindergarten is much more suspicious of a place, now that I notice what the container’s label is, even with the black market’s presence. Maybe the same chao runs both?

...This is a dark topic.

100% sure it's a warning label telling Chao not to drink it, like any hazardous substance would have.

Yep I'd like to say it's more translated to "Not for Chao" as a warning, not as a killing potion

My Japanese is kind of crap, and I can't see the image to confirm which character set it is using, but assuming it's entirely katakana, I think it worth noting that katakana is usually used for foreign words and Onomatopoeia. Chao is derived from the English rendering of the Greek word Chaos, which explains why it would be written in katakana, but as for Irazu, I'm pretty sure that's how the English word erase would be rendered in Japanese phonetics. Of course, this alternate interpretation assumes the texture uses katakana and that the word irazu in the sense of no need is usually written in hiragana.

Of course, the real question is whether all these dark things where intended by the Japanese developers or if there is something being lost in translation.
