So, about Sonic Fancharacters...

Oh Crash, that always cracks me up. It's like, who really wants your OC anyway? There are really well-done ones out there, but the ones who have "do not steal" and such written all over them are usually the least interesting and most trite. Not to mention worst-drawn!

From memory, I had four.

The first was a polkadotted porcupine called Zoo who Sonic fell in love with in a n old story of mine. However, she was actually evil and worked for Eggman. She wasn't a nice piece of work.

Then I had Spike the Lion, who was a genericcy fan character. He was orange, carefree and dudelike. He had a whole clan of other lions that lived in massive cave. That was pretty awesome.

My other two were an older and younger brother for Tails, who I used to adore as a little kid. I managed to fit Tails into a retelling of humpty dumpty in year 2, which is a little weird.

So yeahs.

And there's Electro the Hedgehog who has these gloves that give him Knux abilities.
But one is a grey Tails (who's about Sonic's age, called Mercury.)

Fan characters are OK in my opinion AS LONG AS THEY'RE NOT HEDGEHOGS
And as long as they're not "cousins" or "siblings" to a canon character,
And as long as they're not waaay to powerful.
I have five fan characters, but they're just for fun and nothing serious at all.
GC; A skunk that's an annoying reporter, Powder; a female dog who's a chao breeder, Bleach; an ermine with an unhealthy obsession with popcorn, Crash; a crow who loves to tip over driving cars and a white bat that my sister named Starbucks >.>

I remember when I was younger and I did this little experiment: I changed gender on ALL Sonic characters, and then I tried to recreate the story from Sonic Adventure 2 as a comic.

It was quite interesting to see how they all did the exact same actions, but my everything changed when they were all suddenly girls.

I've only made one serious Sonic Fan Character.
He's a lion (I forget the name) who runs an antiques store in the back alleys of Station Square who occasionally does temple raiding/exploring to add to his repertoire of ancient goodies in his shop. He'll even risk life or death to get his hand on a nice looking nick-nack or trinket in a collapsing temple. Plagued by bad luck ever since he found a pair of cursed swords in the ruins of the old Echidna City (from Sonic Adventure), he has almost never had a customer that has actually bought anything from his store. Well, it's either that or the fact that he won't let any of his customers closely inspect the antiques due to his unnatural need of keeping them in pristine condition. The only way he is able to pay his store's mortgage is by trading his wares off to his landlord.

He's a simple character that really doesn't have too much of a distinct role, but he was fun to make.

I think I'm proudest of a female skunk named Layla VanAngelo who I created for mine and Pink's alternate Sonic universe whose narrative that we've refined through role-playing for nine years now.

Rather than butchering Sega's terrible writing further, we completely abandoned their canon and compiled our own with different adaptations of material from both SegaSonic and ArchieSonic. Here are the only bits we have used and altered for a setting skeleton (and we did this years ago).

A general prehistory:

As in Archie, the narrative takes place on Mobius, which is Earth about 3,000 years from present day. Sometime 3,000 years ago, biological Armageddon occurred in which humans were forced underground until levels of radiation were restored or until technology was able to protect them. Unlike in Archie canon, humans do not become mutated Overlanders. Animal evolution is sped up by an exponential rate, resulting in intelligent species in a mere hundred years. The animals become humanoid because the radiation had been engineered to destroy human DNA by rearranging the DNA sequence. Miraculously, animals were actually infused with bits of human DNA, thus resulting in humanoid animal species. The bomb also set of powerful seismic waves that slightly altered the seven continents (we use Archie's topography, but have made our own locations.)

2102 AD - The Bio-bomb War culminates into mutual destruction that forces human survivors underground.
2104 AW (After War) - The United Federation is formed to observe the surface's progress. It's discovered it will take hundreds of years.
2202 AW - First Anthros appear.
2400 AW - Echidna tribes consolidate in Downunda (Australia). Other tribes emerge.
2500 AW - Echidnopolis built at height of Echidna Empire. Echidnas begin to master technology and other races.
3000 AW - Echidnas have become as advanced as humans once were. Tikal's bloodline discovers the eight Chaos Emeralds and their guardian, Chaos. They are told Echidnas are polluting Mobius and must change because Chao, the children of the planet, are at risk. The Order of Chaos is formed.
3050 AW - A war between Technology supporters and Nature supporters erupt in the Empire (mirroring Legion vs. Brotherhood).
3051 AW - Tikal and her sister Ruby "Red" are born.
3069 AW - Tikal's father plots to use the emeralds to destroy his enemies. Tikal is killed while defending the shrine. Perfect Chaos begins flooding the globe. Ruby uses the Master Emerald to levitate Echidnopolis into the sky. She seals herself within the Hidden Palace with the eighth emerald. She slumbers until awakened again. Echidnas hide within a dimensional pocket created by old technology.
3200 AW - Kingdom of Downunda forms with weasels and mongoose. Other nations are formed.
4500 AW - Humans begin colonizing the surface in non-occupied territory.
4800 AW - Environmentally safe utopia of Station Square built with UF Lead Scientist Angela Robotnik spearheading the project. GUN is formed.
4850 AW - Animals and humans officially make peace. Station Square is opened to outsiders.
4950 AW - Gerald Robotnik creates Project Shadow as the perfect Genome to give Eliza Robotnik, his granddaughter the ability to walk again. He discovers seven Chaos Emeralds that he hopes will speed the process. Without the unknown eighth, a chain reaction kills space station life support. Gerald ejects Shadow and Eliza, but perishes. When the capsules reach Mobius they're badly damaged. The two are frozen.
4960-4970 AW - Ivo is born and told stories about his grandfather, inspiring him to become a scientist.
4985 AW - Ivo discovers GUN refused to rescue Gerald. He develops a serious distrust for the human government.
4987 AW - His environmental stability project is shut down when it is discovered he is using Chaos Emeralds as a power source, like his grandfather. Angry, he leaves.
4997 AW - Ivo Robotnik attacks the Southern Islands (remnants of ancient California). He is building a Scrap Brain to mechanize anything he desires. Sonic the Hedgehog stumbles into a mysterious ring as he's taunting robots that have invaded his home. He summons the first emerald. Ivo announces that the emeralds belong to his family and Sonic has been warned.
4998 AW - Sonic 1. Afterwards, he meets the Rose family, consisting of Amy, her older sisters " 'Black' and 'Blue', " and brother Herb. Sonic meets Tails.
4999 AW - Sonic 2 and 3.

Our original stuff consists of 9 years of information and characters so I won't fill up past this point.

But back to Layla. She's the skunk daughter of the business tycoon, Curtis VanAngelo, who is the face of Casino Night, and the Zone's most prominent lady-mobster, Katarina Rabbit. With a slew of vast connections at her disposal she gains through her parents, massive monetary funds, and a partnership with Rio the Cat, a notorious art thief, Layla was able to pull off several jewel heists in her early days. But the adrenaline rush did not fill the empty sense of purpose in her life. Once she was 21 years old, she was of age to fill both her parents' shoes. Once she was behind the scenes, she realized being a crime boss was not all fame and glory: painful decisions get made and friends get hurt. The experience aged her quickly. Putting her resources to noble causes countered the emotional wear. But don't be fooled by the scars; Layla makes time for lavish shopping and cheery use of her favorite pet name for friends--"button"--because in a dog-eat-dog world, friends and choices separate the good people from the bad.
