Sonic is faster than the speed of light= 1200 Mph and when he goes super he goes way faster!

Re: how fast is sonic?
It's the speed of sound, which is just over 300mphSnowyTheHedgehog wrote:Sonic is faster than the speed of light= 1200 Mph and when he goes super he goes way faster!
Re: how fast is sonic?
As already stated, he goes (allegedly) faster than sound, not light. Faster than Light would just about screw up the whole of the universe, and is at the much higher value of about 300,000,000 meters/ second (yes, I did round), or 180,000 miles/ second (also rounded.)SnowyTheHedgehog wrote:Sonic is faster than the speed of light= 1200 Mph and when he goes super he goes way faster!
Anyway, when it comes to sonic, well... It is said to be as a fast as sound. With Super Sonic being faster. And Hyper Sonic being even faster (assuming from the name, up to 5x faster.) I suppose I will accept Super and Hyper Sonic being absurdly fast, since the explanation is magic, and who am I to argue with the magic of Chaos Emeralds. But normal Sonic, I will not accept that. I must agree that a non-super-enhanced hedgehog, no matter how blue or human-like, can not reach that kind of a speed, given the many problems of something that small going that fast.

Re: how fast is sonic?
@SilverandBlaze: The speed of sound in the Earth's atmosphere is approximately 700 mph. It is , however, roughly 300 meters per second.
That said, I like the convention of Sonic's normal crusing speed being around mach 1, Super Sonic's crusing spped being in the Mach 2-3 range, and Hyper Sonic's being in the Mach 5-10 range. That said, these are crusing speeds, a normal running speed which Sonic can maintain over long distances. While the names are some what misnomers, the Light Dash and Light Attack likely involve accelerating to much greater speeds for the brief duration of the ability.
Also, given that the Chaos Emeralds supposedly contain infinite energy, there is no law of physic violated by anything Chaos Emerald powered nearing, or even meeting the speed of light in a vacuum. .

Is everyone remembering that when Tails met Sonic, Tails improved Sonic's shoes to increase his speed?
Hey, he's still the fastest blue thing around.

Re: how fast is sonic?
In the dictionary, [sonic], means [speed of sound]. [super sonic] means [speed of light]. Who knew that the dictionary definitions could become such good names :D

Re: how fast is sonic?
So then is Hyper Sonic Ludicrous Speed?
Capitalism Killed My Once Proud Signature
Re: how fast is sonic?
Super Sonic is exceeding speed of sound. Yes, light is super sonic, but by a gigantic margin. To summarize:ZoomZike wrote:In the dictionary, [sonic], means [speed of sound]. [super sonic] means [speed of light]. Who knew that the dictionary definitions could become such good names :D
Sonic: Mach 1
Super Sonic: Exceeding Mach 1,
Hyper Sonic: Highly Exceeding Mach 1, usually referenced at around Mach 5
Light: Way way way faster than any of the above.
(Then Ludicrous Speed)
Although yes, Sega definitely took the modifiers to Sonic as references to those speeds.

Re: how fast is sonic?
Sonic merely means "related to sound". In the context of speed, a sonic speed would refer to to the speed of sound(though air is not specified as medium affects speed), but it can also refer to vibrations in the audible range.
Some common expressions including the word Sonic:
Trans Sonic: Having spped around the speed of sound, often quoted in the range of .8 to 1.2 times of the speed of sound.
Super Sonic: Having a speed to great to be Rans Sonic, but too low to be Hyper Sonic, or more colloqially, having a speed in excess of mach 1.
Hyper Sonic: Having a speed to great for the super sonic regime, or colloqially, speed in excess of Mach 5.
Note: the boundaries of the Trans-, Super-, and Hyper sonic regimes are not arbitrary, but rather based on the effects observed when objects travel at these speeds through the air. A upper boundary is currently undefined for the hyper sonic regime as no in-atmosphere object has reached a volocity with decidedly different effects(last I heard, the air speed record was around mach 10, and while space bound objects have achieved much greater speeds, the vaccuum of space is too thin a medium to interact with objects travelling though it).
Subsonic: Speeds slow than Mach 1 or vibrations at frequencies below the audible range.
Ultra sonic: Vibrations at frequencies above the audible range.(Which makes the Archie only Ultra Sonic transformation unusual as its name is not a fererence to a speed-related term).

Sonic as himself (an epic blue hedgehog): Speed of Sound.
Sonic as 'Super Sonic' (himself with all seven chaos emeralds): Speed of Light.
Case closed.
peace out ci

Um, the speed of sound is waaay faster than that. And at times, Sonic can exceed the speed of light.
Re: how fast is sonic?
Gaaah.
Nothing (to the understanding of modern science) goes faster than light, not even fictional hedgehogs.
Speed of Sound: 340 meters/second.
Speed of Light: 299,792,458 meters/second.
The difference is big. Super big. Nearly 1,000,000 times bigger. Not even Hyper Sonic would go that fast, assuming he went at Hyper Sonic speeds.

Guess what? It's a video game. And in video games, science can't prove anything.

Re: how fast is sonic?
We don't need science.
It can be demonstrated that Sonic has never gone anywhere near the speed of light while running in any of the games by playing them. Sonic rarely even gets close to the speed of sound.
Just watch when he's being chased by something like the killer whale or the G.U.N. truck. Neither of them are going anywhere near the speed of sound and they can still get pretty close to Sonic when he's at normal top running speed (you can make him go faster, but that usually calls for things like the launching boards or spin dash abuse).

he already gave you the proof
the gun truck can keep up with him and that's clearly not going at the speed of light or sound
