Sonic Robots confusion...

so, I read today in a german forum (I am german, so I spend most of the time in german forums, though) that :
1. it is silver sonic in death egg zone of sonic 2
2. there is mecha sonic in sonic3&knuckles
3. metal sonic appeared first in sonic cd and his next appearance was in knuckles chaotix
while I thought the one from sonic 2 is mecha sonic and every robot afterwards was metal sonic, while the one from &knuckles was clearly inspired by cd´s metal sonic.
I never heard of an official "silver sonic" that was actually a robot. only silver I know is silver the hedgehog, obviously.
so, I am quite confused right now. please tell me what is right and what is not.

Silver Sonic is what the English manual for Sonic 2 called Mecha Sonic. In Japan the robotic Sonic that appears in 2 and Sonic 3& Knuckles are two different Mecha Sonic models, with the one in Sonic 3 & Knuckles mostly resembling Metal Sonic.
