So there's gonna be live actors alongside computer animation?

Already it's bad.

Good day.

At least we know to worry about how much it might suck so we're not too dissapointed later.

People already made a Fan film CGI Sonic thing that was about twenty minutes long anyways, hopefully they don't take pointers because jaleel whites voice aged horrendously, and in my own opinion, sonic would have been better MUTE in this fan film.

I guess my dreams of a fluidly animated 2D Sonic movie will never become a reality.

There's some hope of such a thing happening if a Japanese studio were interested in making a Sonic film, but the franchise has never been as popular in its country of origin as it is over here, so I can probably keep dreaming. Actually, it's a little surprising this is the first time an American Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been in the works given how much Sonic media there is in the West. You would think his 90s boom in popularity would have generated something.

Of course, it comes as no surprise that, making a Sonic film now, it's going to be half live action/half CGI.

In a very real sense, every movie with human characters interacting with nonhuman characters from Cloverfield to Bayformers has been using the Roger Rabbit trick.

Minus the gorgeously realized hand-drawn animation of Richard Williams of course.

Is it really fair to call overlaying animation cells over live-action footage the "Roger Rabbit trick" when its more or less Hollywood's standard operating practice for live-action movies with non-human characters at this point? Besides, I'm sure this will look a lot better than if they decided to have the anthros played by children in Mascot costumes or tried builiding animatronic puppets for the movie.

Still, regardless of how Sonic and company look, its going to feel weird seeing them interact with real humans.

Visuals aside, the real question is whether or not the story is any good. As the screenwriter been revealed and does anyone know anything about their previous works?

The producer is the same guy who's working on the Goosebumps movie... 'Moritz is the producer behind the Fast & Furious franchise. He has a Goosebumps adaptation coming up for Sony on Aug. 7, 2015, starring Jack Black.' http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... -at-710867 according to this, a Live Action The Jetsons is in the works too?

I think the best parallel between this and a movie would be the surfs which used cgi along side live action. If its at the same cgi quality, i can see this working, but if its not, tough luck.
