What shameful things have you done as a Sonic Fan?

Post by Chao Professor » Sat Jan 16, 2016 4:02 pm

Have you ever done something really embarrassing, immature, or just plain stupid that involved Sonic? Here's a list of shameful things from my younger years as a Sonic fan....

. I honestly thought Tails was a girl while watching my sister play SA2B.
. This led me to make an absolutely terrible fan character who was Tails' long lost daughter. Her name was Gail. (Omg, kill me now)
. I remember painting a poorly done Sonic face on the back of my phone when I was in Elementary school. I used nail varnish, googly eyes and craft glue. Yes, it looked just as bad as you think it did.
. I once owned a Sonic fleece-hat sort of thing with attached mittens. It was made for really little kids, but since I was such a small girl, it-just about-sort-of-fitted-me-maybe. On the first day of Highschool, it was a freezing cold morning. I was feeling very nervous, and wanted to have Sonic with me, so I decided to wear the hat. BIG mistake. I got bullied so bad by the older kids! I still haven't lived that down.
. My old Youtube username used to be something like "XSONICGIRL4EVERLOVEAMYX", and I remember long, immature arguments with complete strangers as to why Sonamy was just the best thing ever. I kept thinking about what an intellectual-badass I must be. Naturally, my replies were baseless, flawed, and in all caps.
. I went through a period of spending my days on MS Paint, re-colouring Tails pics to make my own crappy characters. I thought I was the first one to come up with such an idea, and thought of myself as one cool kid.
. Shortly after the fleece-hat incident, I took up Sonic fanfictions. I distinctly remember writing one about Shadow and Sonic secretly being brothers this whole time, and hiding it from the others. It was about 7 chapters of pure rubbish, yet I felt like J.K Rowling at the time.
. And possibly the worst one...... *deep breath*..... When I got Sonic Rush and was introduced to Blaze, I honestly thought she was Big's mother, and that Eggman was the father. :darkno:

There! I've CONFESSED! I was TERRIBLE when I was younger, when it came to Sonic the Hedgehog at least. So go ahead, and tell me your shameful confessions!

so many
horrible sonic recolors
like seriously, if I was bored, I would just grab a image of one of the characters from Sonic X and just smash paint all over it.
heh..one was of knuckles, completely ty-dyed with pink eyes. "Paint the Echidna", I told my cousin. pft.
at least 3 of those recolors evolved into their own respectable OCs.
Arina the brown wolf used to be a rouge the bat/shadow the hedgehog recolor, and Rascal the robot was a tails recolor. Ari the chao was a cheese recolor. XD
Luckily that stage only lasted half a year, but uh..it was around the time I joined CI, so my first posts had this crap. :/

I-I... Didn't do anything?
Looking at my "track record" I didn't do anything.

I'm clean. I haven't even made a fan character so couldn't have messed up there. What do are you most people even supposed to do with those guys?
AHAHAHA. I forgot about this. Really just Chao with super powers and personalities. Whether or not it's shameful is a another question though.

That's not shameful. They were just rude.

I once wrote a cringeworthy fanfiction about Sonic and Tails being in love, but for some reason Sonic was dying in the hospital?
Also I used to draw my chao in my school books.
I haven't done recolors or made OCs or anything like that.

Oh, and this isn't really shameful, but my oldest memory involving Sonic I was maybe 4-5 or younger, and watching my mom play through one of the 2D Sonic games. When she would go really fast or over a big jump or what have you, I would cover my face in my pillow because I was scared Sonic would die.

I remember writing some pretty bad fan fiction when I was about 7 or 8, complete with crappy illustrations.

Also my character Zipo technically started off as a recolour.

I used to post longwinded reviews on Sonic fanfics and make up huge, overly-complicated theories about the Sonic universe that no one else could wrap their head around.

....

Wait. I still do that.

Yeah I haven't changed very much as a person.

Notably I never did the whole "cheap Sonic recolor fanchatacter" thing because I always sucked at coming up with ideas for stuff like that and my lame dial-up internet connection made uploading art (even MSPaint stuff) ridiculously difficult and time consuming, so I didn't bother trying.

Wrote a 'fanfic' of sorts. It was just basically a compilation of doodles in the format of a comic. Didn't really make any sense and the story would just randomly U-turn whenever I felt like it. Also, plotholes.
I actually found it a month ago and because the book i drew it in still has a good amount of space, I continued it with my newfound drawing abilities.

Made some crappy fan-art in high school, much of which I still have stored in a two-pocket folder in a zippered binder. Had enough common sense not to publish any of it online. It also included one bit of R34 art, but I had enough common sense to destroy that without anyone seeing it.

Did the whole fanchar thing, though I like to think my Character's original incarnation was at least a cut or two above the lazy recolors that are so common.

My only stabs at Sonic fan fiction are actually quite recent(a Amy/Werehog oneshot having been published this past November and a Cream/Cheese oneshot still in progress). Like most of my writings, they're lemons with little to no plot, but I like to think they're decently written for what they are.

Honestly, Sonic and co seem to have that effect on all kids so that they do incredibly cringeworthy things through their childhood and early teens....

...if you're lucky. For some, it never leaves and this fascination for Sonic stays and we get Sonichu and other horrible horrible things you'll see at the ends of the internet.

As for me, I used to talk about sanic a lot back when I was a kid. Once found some random plastic diamond on the floor and started acting like Shadow whenever I'd hold it saying "Chaos Control" and stuff like that. I think I was 8 or so.

I've done a lot lot worse, but I'd leave it at that.

I was four when the original Sonic the Hedgehog came out, was raised on Nintendo and Mario, so I was ten before I ever played a Sonic game, and I've never owned a Sega Console. As a result, the height of my own Sonic Obsession came during The Gamecube/GBA era when Nintendo was getting the best Sonic games and Sonic X was airing in Japan, which was my high school years. On a tangentially related point, I was like 11 when Pokemon Red/Blue hit America, Pokemon Gold was the first game I got on release day, which was the day after my 14th Birthday in the US, and in general, it seems like everything I'm nostalgic for is something from my teen years rather than my childhood.

Damn, I feel old.

When I first made them up, a handful of my original characters (huur durr original character donut steel how dare people come up with their own creations and use their imagination) were basically just female versions of the regular sonic cast.

Of course now they've evolved to look unique and junk. But as an artist I have kept every image of my characters I have drawn. That was I have an example of my growth and development with character design and junk. No sense in ignoring the past. It helps you become who you are now.

I judge everyone who judges others for making original characters. They're at least trying to be creative.
Darn kids and their boost mode. In my day we had Spin Dash for speed AND WE LIKED IT.

Please Sonic, use--

Nah, jk, but I did some really painfully shameful things in my early internet years. Most of it's been covered though and the rest I don't even want to dive into. Painful unoriginal recolors and story ideas (if you even want to give it that much credit) plagued my late 00's / early 10's. Never wrote fanfiction though, so I at least had that.

But on the bright side, I've matured past that... and now I cant stop making stories and universes and characters of all kinds and it's my own kind of hell that I enjoy.

I genuinely like Sonic 06.

I also thought Tails was a girl. Until I read the manual for SA2B out of boredom.

I then proceeded to tell my sister while we were about to choose our characters for battle in shooter just to be an ass. (She ragequitted and wouldn't play with me cause she really wanted a girl character to play as so I mean I guess)
Look at dem ocarinas tho:

I used to like AoStH Robotnik more than SatAM Robotnik.

The only issue of Archie's Sonic comic that I ever liked was the 'Stargazing' short story that appeared forever ago during the 'Return of Anti-Sonic' arc (when he was screwing around with all the women folk while Sonic was still trapped on Anti-Mobius).

I used to lurk on Sonic related boards without posting...

I used to ship SonAmy and SilvBlaze. That's not really a confession, but the fact that I ship all characters in threesomes now is (SonBlAmy OT3).

I also used to ship Eggman X Sera. Now I mostly ship Eggman X Vanilla instead.

This is still adorable though:

More of a realising-my-age thing than shameful, but I've been watching the old 1993 Sonic cartoon with Scratch and Grounder. How I loved that Chicken. :chaohappy:

so. many. recolours. i made like 5 characters based on irl friends who didn't know about them or care. i tried to justify my recolour as a fancharacter by giving him a scarf and blue gloves. because like, that's so original,

also the hero chao fan club, daydreaming about sonamy scenerios and aus literally all the time, arguing with people about sonamy, physically getting angry at shadamy, also countless sonic rps with plots that i thought were really deep and inspiring (aka "OMG!!! EGGMAN IS ON A SECRET HIDDEN ISLAND AND OUR RECOLOURS MEET SONIC THE HEDGEHOG AND BEAT UP EGGMAN WITH HIM!!)

also constantly just drawing sonic. and liking sonic so much to the point where i though every other video game series was basically the spawn of satan.

i was too obsessed.

I've spent so little time in the Chao Garden, my oldest Chao (at least 10 years old in real life) is still only four hours old in game. None of my Chao have ever reached the end of their lifespan, and have yet to die or reincarnate.

Truly this is shameful.

*Hands Ivo a flame shield.* You might need this. I know plenty of people in the wider Sonic fandom only played with Chao long enough to get their Emblems, but I'm surprised to learn of such behavior from a member of this site. Though, I must confess that my own Chao have been in the digital limbo of a memory card in an unbooted Gamecube for years, and this came about prior to my blindness.
