maybe we'll get a comic without a continuity that's all over the place once sega figures out what's next
but alas, you did well, archie.

I know Penders was why the series rebooted, but is he actually why it ended altogether too?

It's really sad to see that both Sonic comics (Fleetway and Archie) are no longer going though.

At this point we can only hope that Chronicles gets the sequel it deserves (or that Forces can somehow meet its full potential) if we want an actually fleshed out Sonic story that's also well done.

From what I've read through of their last stuff, they sorted out most of their problems after the Genesis Wave reboot.

rumors say archie just lost licensing, so Ken didn't get any vengeance.

But he is a freaking tumor in regards to Chronicles

I thought this was debunked.

Psh, Archie's Echidnas were just cribbed from Fleetway's Dr. Zachary anyway.

fleetway's an embarrassment

also eboy the continuity is straightforward, i don't know what you're talking about??

also i'm sad it ended in a sonic unleashed adaptation or anything remotely similar to SegaSonic

What was debunked? Archie losing license to sonic? Or Ken Penders with anything he did?

The Sonic Unleashed arc ended just fine imo, we even got Honey the Cat and a few Aosth reappearances from it all too.

I never really kept up with the series after I let my one year subscription that started around the time of Home lapse(as much from lack of renewal notices as anything), and blindness put an end to me reading the Archives and Select anthologies of the older content around 16 and 3 respectively, but this news still feels like an end to an era, especially considering only the game series has had a longer run, and even then, the comic had an unbroken run whereas the Saturn Era made Sonic feel like an abandoned franchise for gamers.
Just so you know, I am blind.

Oh, I've only read a few semi-recent issues and I really enjoyed the artwork, the coloring in particular.

I wonder what SEGA's up to?

I was honestly pretty shocked by this news. Almost like, jeez, let 'em have one more damn year so they can at least say "A quarter century of Sonic CAWMIKS." :/

New Sonic Comic being published by IDW in 2018
(I would have made this my own topic but it's the same topic effectively so have some extra large letters instead)

And we're back in action. That was fast, Sega.

An easter egg would be more hidden, this was a cameo.

I saw people say IDW was gonna pick this up a lot, I wonder how they must feel now.

First info on IDW's Sonic is going to be on October 8th you guys.

It's probably going to be very light info, but it's still gonna happen. Maybe we can see if they've recruited past writers for it. -intense glares at above post-

Ian Flynn is the confirmed lead writer of IDW Sonic. We're in good hands.

Artists have not been named, but there was some Tyson Hesse art shown at the conference, so that might mean either Mega Drive-like specials with the guy's art, or him as a main artist.
Image
(the art mentioned)

They say they're going for a April 2018 release of the comic.

I'm going to hope that I can keep up with IDW Sonic more than I did with Archie.

That and I'll have a place to buy them, because Toys "R" Us is burning in a fire right now and is the nearest place for me to buy the comics currently.
Heck, they might not even sell comics anymore.

In other news:

Uhh... At what point should we make a new topic for this, and how long should we continue discussion of IDW Sonic in this one?

edit: my grammar was unintentionally atrocious, I swear I'm losing my edge on that

I'm so proud of Hesse. Watching his art evolve while he worked on Boxer Hockey was such a nice experience, and I'm glad he's getting to work on one of his (and my) favorite franchises. His story is one people could only dream of.

Though I will admit I really miss Boxer Hockey.

I wonder if this will be a continuation of the Archie universe, a complete reboot with no ties to the old comic, or a 'Cosmic Reset' of the Archie universe (like how the Super Genesis Wave erased the universe's history but the story was still technically a continuation of the old one, with remnants of the old universe here and there)?
