What was Big doing?

So, throughout SA2 for DC, PC, 360, AND PS3 Big was sitting around in most all the levels. Now, I know it's just an easter egg but, what if it's more? My guess is he is going to be the antagonist of SA3 where he was following all the characters in SA2 and learning their strengths and weaknesses wanting revenge for the years of hatred and planning world domination so everyone will be forced to like his gameplay or be executed. So, why do you think he was in the game?

Well Froggy ate emerald again so he planed to capture him too but in other version he dissapeard and rings apeared froggy transformed him to ring

Real Answer: They put him in as an Easter Egg.

Game-World Answer: Big wondered why no one had come to visit him after the defeat of Chaos in Sonic Adventure, so he decided to track down his friends and see what they were up to. He tried calling out to them dozens of times, but they either did not notice him in their rush, or they ignored him because they're mean. D:
