Re: favourite soundtrack?
JP/EU Sonic CD is tied with Sonic Rush of course, even with the grittiness.

Re: favourite soundtrack?
all the Sonic games have their own unique styles and this extends to their music. SA1, for example, feels and sounds completely different from SA2. Sonic Advance is different from Sonic Rush. I enjoy pretty much all the Sonic music I've heard and find it hard to choose a favorite soundtrack. SA1 is pretty nostalgic to listen to for me, though
however, I've been listening to Generations music again and honestly, it really does sound like it came out in 2011, and not exactly in a good way. not that I don't still enjoy some of it, but it sounded better at the time, if that makes any sense?

I really enjoyed the Sonic 06 soundtrack, but then again the whole budget for Sonic 06 went to the songs...

Sonic Rush and SA2 are my top picks, but Unleashed, 06, Colors, and CD are up there

What a strange set of choices, and no Sonic R
As much as I love Sonic 3 soundtrack, SA2 holds the strongest emotions for me

I like Sonic Adventure 2's soundtrack a lot. One of my favorite songs from that game is Space Trip Steps, Meteor Herd's song.

Sonic Adventure 2 for me. City Escape is unforgettable with all the memes. Knuckles stages were good too, and boss fights were great.
Re: favourite soundtrack?
Without a doubt, the Japanese soundtrack of Sonic CD—followed closely by the soundtrack of Sonic Adventure 2. The former soundtrack has a undeniably upbeat and frivolous quality to its general sound, but also manages to stay true to the thematics of the various stages and time zones within them. There are some remarkable ambient house tunes embedded within the soundtrack, too, such as the "D.A. Garden". It brings about imagery of the emancipation of flora and fauna through Sonic destroying Badniks, but the despondence Sonic feels as Dr. Robotnik attempts to industrialize faster than Sonic can restore the natural balance of Little Planet. The latter soundtrack is eclectic (full of variety) and ambitious, but also strives to dig deep into your emotions with the high-energy electronica/industrial rock tracks. A lot of them strike the player with poignant- and sinister-sounding harmonies, and expressive, but often mysterious lyrics, which complements the atmosphere and mood of the story very nicely (a prime example being "Supporting Me" ft. Everett Bradley).
